Imagination 13, calling medical staff and magical healers, video

[ In a very rare network appearance, Wen Qing shows up on the network, apparently sitting on the upper floor of the library. ]

I'm addressing those of you with knowledge of medicine or magical healing. Some of my colleagues and I are planning to undertake an eye transplant by surgery and would be grateful for further expertise.

Several months ago, a combination of medicine and magic proved very effective in healing Xue Yang so we would like to replicate this success.

OOC: This is about Xiao Xingchen's eye transplant, Wen Qing will be happy to provide further information just not sharing detailed medical information with the entire train. Willow and Ichigo are already signed up for it, others are welcome. This will mostly be handwaved but you're welcome to involve your medical characters in this endeavor and play out all things research & prep & what else at your own leisure. Post-surgery post by Xingchen will go up later.

I've got experience with surgery, but eyes are a new level for me. If you need an extra pair of hands or a spotter, though, count me in.

It's new to me as well but it has been done before in my world, by just one cultivator doctor, albeit the most gifted one we have. I have done other experimental surgeries before, though. I hope that with knowledge from various worlds, we can make up for lacking Baoshan Sanren's brilliance.

Yes, please, if you aren't busy otherwise. I feel like a library meeting is best to get everyone talking, though it doesn't have to be right now. If someone can't make it now, they are free to join us later. [ She smiles wryly. ] I'm sure we will be spending a lot of time yet planning and researching.

Of course, you are very welcome to observe, both the surgery itself and our research. I don't know yet how soon we can do the surgery, right now we will need to do what research we can do here... Mostly, we will need to coordinate and figure out what everyone on the team can contribute.

Research I can do, certainly, and information. It depends on what you're looking for. I've performed surgery before, but nothing that small and delicate...and certainly not a transplant. Have you considered immunosuppressants, or can magic account for that?

That's one of the things we will need to discuss, depending on the skills of the doctors who volunteer. I believe when this surgery was done before in my world, it relied solely on the patient's and doctor's cultivation. We don't have medicine that can serve as the kind of immunosuppressants you'd require. But if we have the choice here, I would not want it to be solely reliant on me.

You also have a patient with a strong golden core, who is able to regulate his body's responses beyond what a common person is capable of. For example, a golden core can be used to filter out toxins and speed up the healing process.

I'm firmly in the camp of needing that where my skills are concerned, so you might be better to ask some of the more magic healers if they have a workaround.

I thought we did buy a bunch of medicine, none of it was an immunosuppressant? Hm.

[ He considers this for a moment, he remembered what Haibara had asked for and Curufin said he'd order them. ]

There should be Cyclosporine in the medicine, that's meant to deal with organ rejection.

Coming up to the top floor of the library, Ichigo had Shiro at his heels. "Was there someone I missed healing after the mission? Or is this for a different passenger? And what do you have in mind?" Shiro was sniffing at Wen Qing with interest, the kitten hadn't had a chance to get in her lap before.

Wen Qing's attention is drawn to the kitten, eyes softening at the thought of the bengal in the cute vest.

"Who do you have there?" she asked, smiling. She shook her head a little. "And no, you didn't miss anything. Wei Wuxian suggested we should see if we can replicate a surgery a famous doctor did at home. She successfully transplanted a pair of eyes, only with cultivation and the knowledge of Chinese medicine. I would like to see if we can do the same here with people from various worlds and magics."

"Ah, that's Shiro. I usually leave him in Grimmjow's care so he can't cause trouble in the medical car." Ichigo listened to her suggestion as Shiro made himself quite at home in Wen Qing's lap. When she was done, he raised an eyebrow at her. "Are we talking just a corneal transplant, or a full eye transplant? Even my world hasn't had the second one as far as I know. And will it really restore his sight to use organic eyes? Where is Wei Wuxian even getting a pair of clean eyes from?"

"Believe it or not, but it turns you can buy a new pair of eyes in the train store just as easily as a candy bar," Wen Qing responds with a wry grin. It really is quite bizarre if you let yourself think about it but the train operates by its own logic.

"It will have to be a full transplant. The patient's eyes had actually been removed so they could be transplanted into someone else, whose eyes had been irreparably damaged. That surgery was successful... though it is not a thing we do commonly, even in the cultivation world."

"Well that's...disturbing. Handy, but disturbing." It freaked Ichigo out a little about how easy it was to buy body parts.

"Okay, so to start we need to make sure the surgical suite is fully sterilized, and everyone taking part should follow sterile procedures to reduce risk of infection and complications. I can handle cleaning the surgical suite and ensuring we have enough masks, gloves, and caps, if you want. You might need to tuck your hair under the collar of your robes, or tie it back to keep it out of the way." At least that was how he was used to doing things in his world. Ichigo didn't know if cultivation could ensure clean surgical practices.

I'm Raven. I was one of the healers here on the train before. I'm familiar with basic non-magical first aid, and I'm an Empath. I can help pain-block.

That would be wonderful! [ Wen Qing looks uncharacteristically brightened by these news, relieved even. ] Anaesthetics have been a concern, as conventional medicine would require both highly specialized personnel and equipment. Your pain-blocking could solve that problem.

My skills at Healing are in the Support category, but my aura does assist in the healing process, and can help instill tranquility in people who might otherwise be tense, if that is of any help. I can also instantly sanitize instruments.

Otherwise, I will stay out of your way. I have done both for Lord Elrond; he is the pre-eminent healer of my World.

Please do not tell me Xue Yang has offered his eyes to Daozhang Xingchen...?

[ For a moment, Wen Qing looks simply confused, since this is not a thought she had even considered. ]

He did not. [ Her voice is hesitant at first, quickly growing firmer. ] We discovered that it is possible to buy human eyes from the train store.

[He lets out a low breath, relieved. Good. Xue Yang isn't that stupid, at least.]

...that...is strange. I wonder where they are acquired? Or from whom?

I don't know. You will want to ask Wei Wuxian, it was his idea and he handled getting the eyes from the store.

[ She hesitates, recalling what Xue Yang had told her about Jin Guangyao. Also thinking of his role with the Wen, in the end. But... She really doesn't know how to bring any of that up. ]
