[Video] An announcement
[Senku will make sure everyone can see him, because this is kind of important. Thanks to several discussions with multiple people who think he needs to tell people what he can do, he can actually agree in this case.]
Hello. If I haven't met you, I'm Senku.
[Even if they had met, they may not have gotten his name.]
It's come to my attention, that aside from a woefully inadequate medical supply, this trip appears to be lacking in medical personnel.
It should be known that for about three years I've been acting in the capacity of a doctor where I come from.
I'm a scientist, but I did a lot of study in the medical field, traveling around the world and learning how to deal with different pathogens in my early teenage years.
I have treated and diagnosed illnesses, injuries and performed surgery including an IV blood transfusion.
The reason for telling you this, is if you require medical attention, you can come and find me and I'll help you.
[A pause, he remembers his conversation with Minako.]
I'm also happy to answer any scientific-related questions pertaining to any of the scientific-related fields, such as geology, physics, biology, chemistry, engineering and mathematics to name a few. Minako told me to mention that. [He shrugs slightly.]
That's it.

[ooc: some general, at least one specific to asthma in children and adolescents. I can look up the list for you if you want.]

Ultimately, of course, it would be better if these skills were not required at all, but people are unlikely to not injure themselves the longer we're here so it's entirely possible eventually it will be needed.
[ooc: If it's in the library post, I'm good, if not, feel free to send it to me. :)]

[S'reee thinks 'as many people who can treat injuries as possible' is a good plan, but she knows that the similarities common to all mammals from Earth only go so far.]
Actually, that might extend to a lot of us. Most are human, or similar, but not all.
I can't say how medicine would affect non-humans.

I'd be glad to read whatever you wanted me to, and learn anything that might be helpful.

But please do not discount those of us with low-tech or magical backgrounds? I served the Lord of Imladris for three thousand years, and know how to make the healing salves for which he was famous.
I am also able to speed healing with my...the glow that I exude. It also aids with mental clarity and mood.

[ He shakes his head a bit, it's not his passion, it's just a skillset he has. ]
I can't answer to magic, I don't know anything about it, but I haven't said anything about the level of technology. I've studied in high tech environments, but the medicine I've practiced is without all of the technology behind me. Technology is obviously better, but I've studied extensively enough how more traditional medicine works.
I just know what is in the medical car is not the least bit sufficient, and the lack of antibiotics in particular concerns me. This is a small enclosed space, if someone gets sick, we're all going to get sick.

"Glad to hear it," Glorfindel said warmly. "I am intending, now that I am growing the plants, to make enough of the healing salve for everyone to have some on the mission. It will allow for quicker healing of minor injuries and bruises without tying up the resources we need for the major injuries. Plus, used in conjunction with other healing, can speed the recovery from a major injury."
"I did, at Ichigo's request, also purchased a copy of Lord Elrond's book on Elven Physiology for those of us from my world," he added.

[ He's not unfamiliar with this, not at all, and he's used it himself, although it's entirely possible they aren't taking about the same plants, or if there's magic involved, he certainly doesn't know any, but the basics, he knows. ]
It would be good to keep infection at bay, and potentially soothe any pain.
I'll be sure to read that reference too.

I'm not a medical professional, but I do have a few magical skills that might be useful when a patient is in pain or is very upset. I can bring my flute and play soothing music, and also, I can cast a vision-spell that is crafted specially to have a calming effect.
Also, I have a lot of points. I can buy medical supplies if the train is willing to provide them via the stores.
no subject
Those sound useful. How do they work? [ He's already been scolded about magic even though he didn't do anything. ] Not because I don't believe you, I'm just curious.
My top pick for medical supplies is antibiotics, but there's a list on here.It would be good if you could do that. I don't have any points myself or I would.

I'm of the Elvish race, and due to our nature, we have a certain facility with the mind-body connection, and that may at times extend to the mind-body connection of others. We don't actually refer to our skills as magic, but rather as our arts. We put our thoughts into everything we do or make, and that means that the physical world is affected by our intentions, beyond the simple effect of our actions. Different Elves have differing specialties, though. I'm a metalsmith and a gem-cutter. I can forge a sword whose effect goes beyond its physical properties. I can summon light and install it in the heart of a gem, and that jewel will radiate luck as well as light. I'm not a master musician like my brother Maglor is, but he was my first teacher, and I have a small amount of his skill. [ Actually, Curufin's pretty damn good with any instrument he plays, and he can sing, too. ] If I play with the aim of getting people out of their chairs to dance, they'll find it hard not to. If I play with the purpose of creating a tranquilizing atmosphere, my listeners will experience the quieting effect beyond the mere effect of the music itself. I'm something of a sorcerer, as many of my clan are, and all Elves of my world are telepathic. If I craft a vision in my own mind and then transmit it to nearby minds, the receivers will see what I see and experience what I experience.
I don't know if that really answers your question, but that's my explanation.
Where's the list of medical supplies and antibiotics that are needed? I'll take a look at it and then try ordering some.
no subject
That's incredibly interesting. It's a nature due to your race?
[ He does sound genuinely curious at the moment because that's just now how things work in his world. ]
I wonder how it works. Are there any rules surrounding these skills?
[ He blinks at the question, wait he knows he saw it somewhere...
It takes a moment for him to realize it was something Ai was holding up in her video, but fortunately for him, he has an eidetic memory and he'll just repeat some of it]
Sorry, I thought it had been referenced somewhere. Ai's keeping that list. At the top of it was antibiotics, to her preference amoxicillin, and something to help with blood loss Dextran 70.

[ Just in these past weeks, after her brother being sent home, she has withdrawn from train life, going from workaholic always found in the medical car to spending most days in her cabin. She doesn't let any of her recent grief show, keeping her tone brisk and professional. ]
My field is Chinese medicine and cultivation spiritual healing, with an expertise for acupuncture, but I have been studying future advances in medicine since I got here. [ Her lips thin a little. ] As for how we are equipped, I know that's lacking, both by your standards and by mine. Whoever is in charge of this train doesn't seem to consider medical equipment a necessity.
no subject
I don't know a lot about acupuncture, but fortunately I did quite a bit of studying in Chinese medicine at one point. Kind of helped me out a lot, knowing about plants that allowed for healing that were later used in the developing of pharmaceuticals.
If I can make antibiotics in the stone age, this place should at least be half decent equipped. [ He scoffs lightly. ] Whether it's through Chinese medicine or more modern means, not having enough seems to be inexcusable.
no subject
You are welcome to bring up how inexcusable this is to the train. Maybe you will have better luck being heard. As for I and the other staff, we have done the best we could with the means and the limited space we have at our disposal.
no subject
I wasn't saying that. I'm frustrated with the situation, I'm not saying you didn't do anything to improve it. There's a disturbing lack of resources at our disposal in general, despite the modern amenities on the train itself, meaning that whoever has us here, should be complained to.
[ Is that a little better? He's a bit socially inept. ]
