10billionpercent: (I Sense A Plot)

[Video] An announcement

[Senku will make sure everyone can see him, because this is kind of important. Thanks to several discussions with multiple people who think he needs to tell people what he can do, he can actually agree in this case.]

Hello. If I haven't met you, I'm Senku.

[Even if they had met, they may not have gotten his name.]

It's come to my attention, that aside from a woefully inadequate medical supply, this trip appears to be lacking in medical personnel.

It should be known that for about three years I've been acting in the capacity of a doctor where I come from.

I'm a scientist, but I did a lot of study in the medical field, traveling around the world and learning how to deal with different pathogens in my early teenage years.

I have treated and diagnosed illnesses, injuries and performed surgery including an IV blood transfusion.

The reason for telling you this, is if you require medical attention, you can come and find me and I'll help you.

[A pause, he remembers his conversation with Minako.]

I'm also happy to answer any scientific-related questions pertaining to any of the scientific-related fields, such as geology, physics, biology, chemistry, engineering and mathematics to name a few. Minako told me to mention that. [He shrugs slightly.]

That's it.

[ Yes, that's better, and the thinly disguised disapproval melts away for a more generalized frustration with the state of things. ]

There is a lack of resources, and if we end up with more wagons for entertainment before we get medical upgraded, I'll... [ She cuts herself off, with train management perfectly unreachable, they are very limited in what they can do to voice their displeasure. ] At one point just a couple of weeks ago, we had one bedridden patient who had only just woken up from a coma and another patient with a concussion laying on the floor. And that's not even speaking of the pharmaceutical side.

[ She gives a curt nod. ]

That's what I have been worried about, too. In my time here, this was the first time we dealt with a serious injury which couldn't be healed quickly even with magic. I also learned that if we hadn't been able to deal with it as well as we did, we would have spent several months caring for a coma patient. This is what had happened the last time this specific attack was used. What is to say we won't end up in a similar position again? We've been lucky that nobody came back from a mission needing weeks or months of medical care.

Maybe between you and the other medical personnel from the future, you'd be able to work with the engineers on more equipment.

The last community I was part of had similar challenges. Many elderly and weakened people in a small village where everyone lived on top of another in poverty with little protection against hard winters and sparse food. It was more luck than my skill that let us weather it as well as we did. Compared to the conditions there, doing medicine on the train is downright comfortable.

[ And she'd been so glad for what they have here that she hadn't striven as hard as she could have for more, she realizes now. ]

I... I think in these years I grew used to making do with what I was given. We didn't have the funds or means to try for more. I'm not opposed to striving for something better here.

No, not necessarily. [ Wen Qing's mood is quickly turning grim again at the path her thoughts are now taking. ] They have the means to bring us back to life, though we know very little yet about how it is done or how difficult is it for them. We only know that people are restored how they used to be, we had someone who came here as a vampire be brought back to life as a living human.

[ But no, while that is of medical interest to her, it's not the point right now. ]

Point is, they have no reason to be concerned with keeping us alive. They can just bring us back if we die.

I'm not sure of that, and normally I would say no, but who knows? With the information we have recently uncovered about the ones who run the Voidtrecker Express... Although we don't know if that information is true, either. I've grown more suspicious, anyway, and wouldn't put it past them.

[ It's a disturbing thought, though, even knowing people will come back to life it's just not a path she would be comfortable with. ]

Not that I'm in favor of it. It's our task to save lives, not kill people for our convenience, even if it's a temporary death.

[ Her lips press a little more together but Wen Qing can't deny there is some truth to it. ]

I suppose there could be instances when it is the lesser evil... if we indeed know that there are no hooks attached, and no higher price to be paid long-term.

I'm still convinced that this revival, however it might work, is actually as safe and reliable as it seems to be. There's always some kind of price for powerful spells.

Please do so. I'll be interested in hearing your thoughts ans if necessary, I'll speak to the revived patients I know of to convince them to let you examine them. I did one of the post-revival exams.

His exam showed a perfectly normal human boy... except that he should have been a vampire. He even had the signs of malnutrition that he had been suffering from before being turned into a vampire, best we could figure he was returned to the exact state he had been in when he first died many centuries ago.

[ She falls silent, thinking for a moment. ]

This was before we learned anything about the Void or Void Sickness. Maybe he did have show traces of Void interference which we just didn't know to look for at the time. The Doctor examined him with his instruments, I wonder if he still has the recordings.

I don't know his proper name. [ She sounds a little frustrated at that. ] He only goes by this one on the train. He is very knowledgeable, in medicine among other things. But he didn't have an explanation for what had happened to Joscelin, either. We didn't get to speak about it again, he might have been able to come to better conclusions once we received more information.

I agree. I hope there will be more opportunities in the future to gain data but going by what I have seen so far, it will be a slow process. The train isn't very forthcoming with explanations, if we learn anything at all it seems to be more by accident than anything else.
