Nebula 2, Evening | A Matter of Great Importance [Video]
[The video opens and there is a pouting octoteen glowering into the screen.]
Everyone, it has come to my attention that we have a new karaoke machine. I was excited at first because that sounds like a lot of fun, but when I started it I saw that there were squids performing on the screen.
I know that many of you are human or human-adjacent and that the representation of other species may be too much to ask, but I have to ask: why squids? Why not octopi? This seems very unfair.
I won't be looking at a gift fish if it has gone south but this is very frustrating to me personally. Are octopus really held in such low regard to squid?
Please let me know. I am quite upset.

I dunno they taste equally good in my opinion.

I guess. Octopus taste better, I-M-O.
[Is that weird? That might be weird.]

Uh. Just got a problem with squid in general then? I mean—... if ya like octopus so much shouldn't eatin' 'em be right out?

[She's a bit speciesistic.]
Well, of course we are! Octopuses are highly intelligent and very understanding! We analyze situations and adapt well! And even though we may not have as many tentacles as squid, we know how to use what we have very well indeed!

All very fair and good points. I believe, while an octopus is more functional than a squid as a familiar, ah, both still have their benefits and drawbacks as species. As any would when laid out in comparison. Perhaps, the favoritism you might see for this machine is purely based on.. ah, aesthetic or familiarity.

But hey, I might be pissed too. I know how I feel when people ignore the existence of blends or talkers in my world.
no subject
[She folds her arms at that second part, not entirely sure what it means.] I don't know what blends or talkers are.

[But he's not bitter.]
I guess 'cause Karaoke machines were Japanese first and they eat squid way more than Americans. Well, they did. I don't know how populated it is there anymore.
[And there's not even really a USA, it's all 'Newmerica' now so who the hell even knows.]

Instead: ] Let's get something cooler than a squid karaoke machine and get an octopi something-machine! How about that?
no subject
[At first she's ready to yell. But then he actually has a useful suggestion for a change!]
Vee~!! Yeah, let's do that!
no subject
Cool! So, what should it be? [ Hmm... ] A videogame?
[ ! ] A Splatoon videogame!

I'm not sure why it would have squids performing.. Are there no humans on it at all? Just random squids?
[ He sounds genuinely confused, okay. Why is the karaoke machine squid themed!! ]
no subject
no its pretty silly]They're more like squid-people. Or maybe someone's idea of squid people? Because they're not like the squid-people from my world.
no subject
[ A world where they also have squid-people? Who knows. ]
Well, if it helps to know, there's really nothing depicting squid-people where I come from.. But then again, there's not really anything depicting octopus-people either. [ So.. E-Equal opportunities? ]

( heres the guy who ordered the machine by describing around what it is, because who the heck remembers the word karaoke? not him!
anyway his hands are pressed together in front of him, palm to palm, as he says: )
It's time... to complain to the train.
no subject
Well... it is new, so someone spent their credits on it... I only wish I knew if it was on purpose or if the train messed up the order...
[Among several other things, really.]
no subject
( like maybe he could have started with that, but no, he's here for "complain to the train" like any good friend is. he's also waving a hand dismissively. )
No way was it on purpose, I never said anything about squid or octopuses or anything else. I didn't even remember what it was called, so I described what I thought it did?

...I don't think whoever made the machine did it because they don't like octopi. They probably just thought squids look funny. So it's more making fun of squids, not saying they're better.
I mean, octopi are obviously better. I used to play this awesome game at home called Inkill about giant beefy octopi who used ink guns to take down their opponents.
But why don't you just sing anyway? It's great for stress relief. Take that, squids!
no subject
[She's just aware of how egocentric they have made their society... ahaha...]
We have giant octopi in the Octarian army too! And they can be pretty dangerous, especially if you make 'em mad. Do you still have that game?
And its not like I don't like squids! But... mm... I would like seeing more of my kind represented... [The more she voices this feeling though, the more she's getting a little self-conscious about the whole thing.]

I do not see any reason why you would need my permission to ask, Mr. Freeza.
video;
[She is actually curious either way.]
no subject
[She huffs.] I mean, its not like complaining about it will change anything...
But its kinda irritating to me for... personal reasons.
And maybe has me thinking and wanting an answer? I dunno...
[Maybe she wants a little validation...?]
no subject
[Not that she knew the reason actually.]
Maybe we could see if we could find a way to replace them.
