Morning of Grasshopper Day 4 [video]
[ In Cabin 2:A, Curufin flails and falls out of his bunk with a crash, as usual when having a prophetic dream. Sorry, roommates! He disentangles his legs from the blankets, gathers himself up from the floor, grins with embarrassment at his long-suffering roomies, and then he scrambles over to the ICP on the little table. ]
Ah. . . good morning, Void Warriors. It seems I've had another premonitory dream, and like the others, it must be about the next mission. There wasn't anywhere near as much detail in this dream as in the others, though, and I don't know what to make of it.
There was just a clamor as of a battle taking place, but the sounds receded. [ Wry laugh. ] I must not have been in that fight, or I'd have known it!
Then suddenly there was a blaring alarm, maybe one of those modern sorts that they put on emergency vehicles or on buildings to warn of tornado weather? I had the feeling that some danger was approaching, even aside from the fact of the alarm. And then it screamed out again.
That's all. [ He scratches his head in puzzlement. ]
Jeez, I need some coffee.

Yes, this does happen regularly. It started with just me and the other Elves having visions before each mission, but not it seems other people are having them as well. Future dreams, yes. Are you a visionary, too?
no subject
[wait no that question came too fast-
He should have seen it coming!] Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh....
[Is that a Yes, Jonouchi,]
no subject
[ He gives Jonouchi a slightly concerned look. That was an awfully long "Uh." ] It's not that unusual amongst non-Elvish peoples.
no subject
Hold on though, that last bit was...neat? Kinda neat. Katsuya snaps more seriously to attention.] You guys went fr'm seein' stuff whenever to jus' in dreams? Huh....
[That was a very unsubtle dodge of the part about if he had one, but there isn't exactly a lot of subtlety going on with anything the blond is doing either.]
no subject
Yes. That's exactly it. Since I've been on the train, I haven't had a single future vision except for the ones in the dreams. Same with the other Elves, or so far as I know.
[ He gives Katsuya a long look, not accusing at all, but curious. He's pretty sure this guy heard his question. ]
no subject
In fact, if possible, the cookie look has increased.] O-Only the dreams even, shit! Uhhhhh...
[Coughing is not helping his case.] Yeah that's uh.
I mean any vision deal is. Weird. Where I came from. Yep...
[Oh but he sure would like it if he had less visions!!!]
no subject
Of course, I can't tell if that's coincidence or some feature of life on the train. I don't think it limits our powers, though, since all of my other powers are intact.
[ Have a cough drop! XD]
The world we Elves come from doesn't think of visions as weird, but some worlds do. So, yours does? Do you, ah, have visions yourself?
no subject
A very bad response.] Nyh....yeah mos' people don't have a lot t' do w' magic, [he eventually answers.]
At all.
[....] Mnnhhhhhhh...
Hey uh, people can't cut in on these righ'? [Questions he should have asked Before jumping in with surprise: that.]
no subject
You're asking if people can jump in on this conversation, or at least see and hear it? I doubt anybody's paying attention to this one. Besides, there's no way for anybody to review it after the fact. The train doesn't archive these. Once the conversation has taken place, it's gone.
You're worried you might be judged for having visions? Not here on this train! It happens before every mission, and people regard it as useful information.
no subject
Even back home- like, HOME home, not Alola, it's still weird for my friends- an' they've known for like half a year...
[And yet he still gets 'don't finish my sentences', 'that's weird', 'that's creepy', so on, so on...
It stings, a little more than it did at the time.
Katsuya grimaces, and scratches his head.] Er...yeah, this ain' uh.
Tha's why I was kinda surprised earlier. I'm still havin' my regular amoun'. Like.
Through th' day 'n such.
[To be entirely fair, HIS visions are normally. 2 second snips of whatever he's going to end up doing in half an hour or so. So they're not exactly life-changing. (In fact, he Can't change them)]
no subject
You have visions every day? What are they about?
no subject
Longer ones don' normally happen. When they do, that's dream stuff, an' half th' time, I don' even know what th' hell 's supposed t' mean, [he groans, shaking his head.]
no subject
You didn't ever have anybody who could help you learn how to interpret the dreams? Not that such a person can always help, but it is good to have a teacher or a guide. [ Curufin never had one. ]
no subject
Anyway, like I said, 's too weird back home, not like there'd be someone who knew. It all comes t'gether when it act'lly unfolds anyway.
[Though he's not shooting down the idea of a guide point blank. As much as it feels too good to be true, it Would probably be better for him to talk more about this stuff in the long run.]
no subject
As for your world, if there are other people who have visions, maybe they're too afraid to talk about it, so you couldn't know for sure if there were other people who did. I think it would be pretty strange if you were the only one. It would be good if at least there were an "underground" of visionaries. If you ever go back home, maybe you could look for others and start an organization. Just a thought.
But as for here on the train, you're right. Whatever we see, it's usually not detailed enough for us to know exactly what's going to happen. We don't know that until we get there, and that's when the real planning and action happens.
[ He can always talk to Curufin! ]
no subject
The problem is when he thinks about the likely reason he can see things, the idea of there being anyone else at all seems too unlikely.
The blond raises a brow, and then shrugs.] Eh, I dunno. 'F yer gettin' visions of some action goin' on, you'll know t' bring shit for it righ'?
[In his case, he's pretty sure all being tackled is going to do is make him paranoid. He's Correct.] 'S not abou' gettin' th' full picture on a serious vision righ'? Jus' whether you can change it 'r work around it.
Least I'd figure that's it. Someone's gotta be able t' change what they see righ'?
no subject
It does matter to me to have an inkling of what's going to happen, just because my mind gears up for a certain kind of adventure. You're right, it's not about a full picture, just whether we can change the situation or work around it. We do have the ability to change some things, since we have tech skills and fighting skills and logistics skills. We try our best to change the situation. That's why we go to those worlds.
no subject
...Well. Anyway. He frowns.] Hah. Yeah, ain' how my visions work, so guess I'm gettin' tackled 'n a day 'r so, [he grumbles with a frown.]
no subject
I wish you well on this next mission. [ And he hopes you're not getting tackled! ] How do your visions work, Katsuya? Did you see something more specific than I did?
no subject
[Well he's gone this far.] Sometimes 's jus' hearin' somethin', but tha's normally a matter 'f bein' awake. Kinda hard t' go around if yer seein' another version of th' world while you're wanderin' around another, I figure. Not tha' it doesn' happen... [He grumbles, moving on.]
...Anyway...if it ain' symbolic, it'll be literal. Somethin' happens, an' it will happen'.
An' in this case tha' means I'm gonna go down a tunnel, an' get tackled by somethin'.
[He immediately hates it.] ...Gonna be real, I'm hopin' 's some kinda alien dog but w' my luck I ain't holdin' my breath...
no subject
Oh, I see. And I understand. If you're wide awake when you have a vision, you're seeing two worlds at the same time. I've had that experience, so I know how disconcerting it can be.
[ He nods. ] The symbolic visions can be hard to interpret. But the literal ones are not!
Listen, you be careful when you enter those tunnels, and make sure you always have backup. If you get tackled by something, it might not be an alien dog. We do tend to get stuck with monsters on these missions.
no subject
[He can't tell if it's better or worse that he tends to just freeze in place for those ones these days.
But, for now, he simply settles for grimacing.] Yeah, trus' me I know tha' much. I jus' know it's gonna suck either way. [Great, they would have to deal with monsters constantly, wouldn't they.] Guess I'll have t' hope I'm armed by then 'r somethin'...
[He Isn't.] ...Uhh. ...Thanks f'r th' advice though, I guess?
[The lack of experience in talking to anyone familiar with this sort of thing is...rather clear.]
