[ It's a good thing that Madoka is so gullible. She believes him instantly, so she doesn't even mention anything about it anymore. ]

Hmm, I do! [ And she's totally distracted by the mention of cake. She even smiles. ] I wonder if they ever ate cake together? That's what I do with my friends.

[ Although she doesn't really argue with her friends. But that's just.. since it's Madoka.. She's too sweet to get angry unless it's really important. ]

[He feels bad! Ugh, so bad. Why did she have to be so nice?]

Conan's not the biggest dessert eater, but she's good friends of my best friend back home, Kazuha and they like to go to cake buffets.

Speaking of.. I'm hungry. Want to see if there's anything good in the kitchen?

Hm! [ There's very little hesitation on her part before she's already making that affirmative sound and nodding. (Although he can't see that part of it, obviously.

After all, Madoka does like spending time with other people. And it's been a while since she's seen him. And - most importantly - it's an easy way to make sure he's really alright like he's saying. ]

Let's find something yummy. I'll be there in a moment.

[He grins. He can almost hear her nodding- or maybe he's just guessing. He doesn't know.]

I'll meet you there!

[However, he hurries through the halls to see if he can't catch her even before she gets to the kitchen. Not that there's a reason to do that. He just.. don't ask. He doesn't know why he's doing this.]

[ It's most definitely possible. Madoka doesn't like making people wait, so when she says she'll be over in a moment, she's definitely heading in the direction of the kitchen right away. But she's not exactly the fastest person around, so he definitely catches her walking through the train before she's arrived there.

Madoka's eyes grow wide in surprise when she spots him. ]

Oh..! What a coincidence, I guess the timing worked out. [ That's what you think, Madoka.. But when the initial surprise fades, she gives him a sweet smile. ] You really look like you're alright though despite.. um..

[ She's not sure if she should address the Suitcase Situation with words, since he seemed upset enough about it earlier to cuss and all! So she just vaguely waves her hands a little instead. ]

Despite you know.. but I'm glad to see it.

[He breaks into a bright smile when he sees her. He laughs when he sees her struggling over whether she should mention his disappearance.]

Yeah thanks. It's okay the initial shock has warn off. It's disturbing but really, I'm okay. See?

[He gives her a little spin as though somehow that will prove he's fine. He catches the door to the kitchen and holds it open for her.]

So nothing really interesting happened while I was gone?

[ She giggles at the spin. It's just a fun way to show her! And it really does convince her that he seems alright. She's not sure what this place does to make people disappear and reappear in suitcases like this, but apparently it really doesn't harm them.

Madoka walks ahead of him through the door, turning around once she's in the kitchen so she can look at him while speaking. ]

Nothing important, I guess.. Although we did get to have some fun in the snow. The garden carriage was suddenly all covered in snow.

[He sighed, bummed out that he missed the snow.]

It's too bad it was only the one carriage. My friends and I from back home love to ski.

[He spots a cake that has a tiny card in front of it stating it was a 'chiffon cake'.]

Hey, look at that! I was right about there being cake in here. Would you like something with it? I can make us some hot chocolate or tea.

Hehe, it was probably not big enough to--

[ She's totally stopped though the moment she turns her head to see what he's talking about when he mentions cake. There really is cake! Sometimes the simple things in life are all you need to get excited - like eating cake with friends, practically one of Madoka's favourite hobbies. Her eyes light up as she glances from the cake back to him. ]

Yes, please! I'd like some tea. Let's have a tea party together to celebrate your safe return..!

[He laughed at her overly cute reaction.]

A tea party? Like kids have?

[He was too humored by that.]

Sure, why not? What kind of tea would you like?

[He went over and put the kettle on.]

Anything is fine. [ Madoka would hate to be picky, anyway. ] But if I have to pick.. um, anything fruity?

[ Her thoughts don't seem to linger on it for too long though, since a pout appears on her face afterwards. ]

Tea parties aren't just for kids though. [ Not that Madoka seems fully offended in the slightest. Her heart is too soft for her to ever feel like that. If anything, her pout is just more cute than anything else, especially on a face like hers... ] I knew someone really cool back home who also held tea parties, you know. It's for anyone who enjoys spending time with other people!

[He nodded at the choice and was about to turn to the cupboard to get whatever fruit flavor they had, but that little pout stopped him dead in his tracks. His heart dropped to his feet.]

O- oh.. okay. I didn't.. uh.. I didn't know. Sorry.

[He rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly.]

I really didn't mean anything by it.

[ It's a good thing Madoka has zero backbone in most situations, since it means the moment he starts looking so sheepish, the pout is dropped immediately. ]

N-- No, no, um..!

[ I present to you: two flustered idiots. Over absolutely nothing. ]

I didn't mean it that way either..! I just.. really like them.. and thought it'd be nice to have one together.. [ If her voice grows anymore meek, it'll be too soft to be audible to human ears. ]

[That's a highly accurate description of this situation, because of course her looking like that makes him feel even more guilty for upsetting her or whatever he just did.]

No, don't worry about it. It's fine. You're um.. it's cute. The tea not um.. I'd love to have a tea party with you!

[Just stop looking at him like that! He'll say he loves whatever you want, he swears!

Not knowing what else to do, he opens the cupboard and sees blueberry and grabs it.]

I- is this okay?

[ Madoka truly is too powerful.. and she's not even aware of it. All she's doing over here is hoping that she didn't upset him! But he's still saying he'd love to do that with her, so it should be alright..?

She still looks a little flustered, but nods at his question. ]

Y.. Yes. That's great, thank you.

[ Madoka sucks in a breath, giving him a small (although maybe still a tad nervous) smile. ]

I-I'll cut the cake!

[He gives her a smile (also nervous) when she says the flavor is acceptable.]

[Why was he thanking her like she just did him a huge favor? They were trying to have a tea party (seriously wth Hattori, you're 17 and having a tea party) so someone had to cut the cake. That had sounded more like she'd cured cancer.

[ At least focusing on trying to find a knife to cut the cake with has distracted Madoka enough from feeling flustered for now.. But it also means that her brain needs a moment to catch back up with Hattori when he suddenly asks her that.

She's at least polite enough to look over at him while she thinks. ]

Strawberry shortcake? .. That's a kind of cake, right?

[ Maybe a little too one-minded when it comes to sugar there, Madoka.. ]

Strawberry tea definitely exists though! [ She tilts her head sideways a bit, wondering why he could be asking that.. (Yes, the fact he made an awkward segue went just about five miles over her head. Count yourself lucky, Hattori..) ] Oh, do you maybe like strawberries? If we don't have the flavor here, I could try to make some strawberry tea for you myself.

[ Let her help you!!! ]

Oh.. uh, yeah.

[Let's just go with that. That sounds good. Comparing Madoka to Strawberry Shortcake suddenly seems like a really stupid idea anyway. After all, she might ask him to explain it!

However, then she's offering to make him some and he gets flustered again.]

What? No! No, that's.. thank you, Madoka. That's really nice of you. I was just wondering if there was. I like blueberries. Promise!

[Did that really warrant a 'promise' there? Nope.]

How would you make it if we don't have the strawberry tea?

Ah, well.. Usually you make tea by infusing water with the tea leaves, right? So you should be able to do the same thing if you have strawberries.. [ Suddenly she seems to realise something that makes her think for a moment. ] .. ah, but I don't know if we have those either, actually..

[ So it's probably for the best that the idea was only hypothetical. She'd feel so bad if he liked the idea and she wouldn't have been able to make it for him! Madoka blushes a bit at the very idea of it.

She shakes her head, quickly trying to snap herself out of it before they're forever trapped in this cycle of being flustered. ]

E.. Either way..! Look, I cut off a piece of the cake for you. I bet it's delicious.

[Aww, he saw the way her expression changed as she realized the strawberry tea wouldn't be possible. He looked around for something to distract her with but she snapped out of it and was offering him cake instead.]

Thanks! The tea should be ready in a couple minutes. Who do you think keeps making all these sweets? I swear I've put on five pounds since I got here.

[Says the skinny idiot.]

[ Madoka's eyes immediately grow wide. She looks at him, wondering how he could possibly have put on weight when he looks like that. (Granted, it'd probably help if Madoka understood the concept of a hyperbole, huh..) ]

It doesn't look like it at all..! [ It's at that moment that she does seem to realise she's maybe staring a little bit too much, so she quickly turns her gaze back to the cake before speaking up again after another moment. ] I actually kind of thought you looked like an athlete..

Well, no.. not.. um..

[Why was this so awkward? He was just talking to a cute gi- wait, did he really think that? Yikes. Maybe tea was a bad idea.

Then his brain just short circuits when she says he looked athletic (which clearly meant attractive, right??).

He should probably say something instead of just stand here slack jaw staring at her.]

Uh, thank you. That's very kind of you to say.

[Thank god the kettle started to whistle giving him something to do. Pouring the hot water into the teapot, he dropped the teabags in.]

Do you want me to microwave the cake to heat it up?

[ Don't look at Madoka here, she is completely oblivious as to the impact of what she just said. She thought she was just saying something that was obviously true! But if he said it was kind of her, then he must see it as a compliment, right?

Well, as long as he's happy with it, she is too. Madoka manages to get over her own awkwardness enough at that thought to smile a little as she brings the pieces of cake over to him. ]

Yes, please. Here you go!

[She was right! He certainly saw it as a compliment. How couldn't he when she was smiling like that?

He warms up both pieces of cake and gets forks for them. Setting out tea cups, saucers and all, he added a spoonful of sugar to his. Taking a bite, he hummed with approval.]

It looks kind of plain, but it has a really nice flavor. How's your tea?

It's good!

[ She seems to be enjoying it, anyway. Although the presence of a cake sure helps with that.. But Madoka means it.

After eating another bite of cake and swallowing it, she looks like she's thinking for a moment, and then speaks up again. ]

.. thank you for doing this with me. It's fun. [ Sure, some people might find something like this a little too simple to call it "fun".. but Madoka is easily pleased. ] Maybe.. if you don't mind, we could do it again sometime..? Even if there wouldn't be cake, I still like your tea.

Well, and your company, of course..!
