Video / Action - Open

Video
[The video opens with very excited Quatre, quite clearly trying to keep from bouncing excitedly]

Fellow passengers of the train, good morning! I made a request for an item and I wasn't actually sure if I'd get it or what it would be if I did, but...

[And he shows off what arrived for him... which just basically looks like a large box]

It is mobile suit cockpit simulator! So it's like piloting a mobile suit without actually piloting one!

[He very briefly showed off the inside of it, which looked like a cockpit]

Once I get it to the games carriage, I'm going to take a look at the options already programmed and add as many as I remember. It'll be available for anyone to try out. Also if you have one that would be piloted like that, I can try to add yours.

Action
Quatre can either be found in the luggage carriage, trying to figure out to move this very large object... or he can be found in the games carriage once it has been moved, checking what has already been programmed into the system.

[It's hard not to get caught up in the guy's enthusiasm.. it reminds her of when she got her duel disk back]

A... Mobile suit? Is that... like a mecha or something?

[The mecha genre was quite popular in her dimension, and it had numerous titles to choose from... or was a mobile suit some kind of aircraft? It was hard to tell from what she was peering at on the screen]

Oh wow! I know that anything is possible with all the mutliverses and everything, but it's still crazy to think that something like that actually exists somewhere!

Mm, you did mention the simulator.

[Although she was trying to play it cool, she was also highly interested in trying it out herself..]

Pretty thoughtful of you to arrange such a thing. So... uh.. how long do you think it will be before it's all setup?

[Still, she didn't want to be too pushy or rush him]

That's not long at all. Do you.. need anything while you're working on it? I wouldn't mind swinging by the dining car to grab you a drink or the lab if you needed a tool you don't already have with you.

I don't mind at all.

[In fact she sounded pleased to be able to do something for him in return]

Would you like water? tea? Something else?

I can handle that. I'll see you soon.

[With that she allowed him to get back to his work, while she made her way to the kitchen to prepare the tea.

It only took a little while for the tea to warm, then she decided to bring a few shortbread cookies with it as well. Placing both the teapot with two cups and the treats on a tray she made her way to the gaming car.

After she let herself in, she found some empty table space to place the tray.
]

Hey, it's just me. I hope I didn't keep you waiting too long.

[In hindsight she should have introduced herself earlier, however now was as good a time as any]

That was pretty fast, you must be a whiz with electonics.

[Or maybe the simulator didn't have that many connections to make. Either way]

It's nothing, don't worry about it. Please help yourself. I'm Sylvia, nice to meet you.

So you've worked on the full scale models. This must be considerably easier.

[Not that she knew for sure, but all those moving parts on a mech offered more points that could fail or need maintenance]

The Federation. [Sylvia repeated thoughtfully.] Wow, I'm sorry. I'm still kind of stunned that any society would really need such high industrial fire power as these things. [There's probably a whole sad backstory to it, and she's not sure how much she should question Quatre about it] Were you from a time of peace, or was there some kind of ongoing conflict?

[Truthfully she had meant the actual working mechas, but it was too awkward and unnecessary to correct him. He'd taken her literally, so it had been a poor choice of words.]

Sandrock? Is that like the name you gave it or it a production name like a car?

[Genuinely curious since she wasn't sure how popular mechs became in his timeline]

That would make sense. The technology existed before but then it was adapted for combat. [It's kind of amusing that some of these units were named after popular constellations ie. astrological signs. The rest was just disheartening to think about. War always came at a high cost even if their were times when it was the only way.] So there are actually colonies in space there too. That's incredible. [Trying to remain upbeat]

So you actually experienced combat and everything.. [.. and he looked so young. That meant things were so dire in the colonies that they sent out at least one kid to the frontlines.] I'm glad you got to see some semblance of peace before you got here.

[It was a near thing, but Sylvia prevented herself from saying "Neat!" or "That's so cool!". This was a real dimension somewhere, that experienced a real war... the Gundams were necessary for combat so one shouldn't blindly forget that aspect.]

Than no one else would have known quite how it operated. There's an advantage to that.

[Not that mecha control necessarily deviated all that much. In truth, she had no way of knowing, but even ordinary electronics had their own nuances from system to system.]

In my time, we aren't quite that advanced. There has been some space exploration, and I am from an Earth but no one lives in space exclusively.

You survived, so.. you must have picked up enough during.. everything.

[If there was something she could understand it was strategizing. Although she hadn't mentioned it to many, Sylvia was big into a variety of games of all sorts]

Maybe. Not sure if it'll be in my life time.. but they do have that one space station, so it's kind of heading in that direction. It's just people can only stay up there a few months because of the differential gravity and the effect on the body.

So you've lived in both places? I guess that would be hard. [I mean, she experienced homesickness enough traveling on the train]

[When the conversation felt like it hit a natural lull she looked towards what must be the simulator]

So, how does this thing work?
