Imagination day 17 ; voice

[The surgery is complete and a success. He is resting on one of the beds in the medical room on the second floor. There are several layers of gauze wrapped around his head and he wraps himself up with blankets. It's a weird sensation to actually feel something in those sockets, as it has been years, and he realized he has eyes. But he's not ready yet, as he used to the darkness.

It must have been many hours, but he was knocked out. Upon awakening, the unpleasant side-effects of the anesthesia wear off, and he's starts waking up, feeling groggy after sleeping for a long time, that he's too weak to even call out to anyone nearby him, so speaking into the device]

Hello...? I think I'm all right? Is this thing even on? I'm awake. I'm okay, just had a very long sleep and a very long dream. I think all I ever wanted right now is blankets, pillows, and this sweet called ice cream? My head doesn't feel so good.

I'm going to lie down for a little bit.

[He turns his head in the direction of Lea's voice. He smiles]

Lea? No, you didn't. [with anticipation of the promise desert] Have you brought the ice cream?

[Lea grins right back, even though Xingchen can't see it just yet. It can definitely be heard in his voice, though.]

Yep, right here.

[He carefully hands him a sea-salt ice cream bar.]

Not sure if you have this kind in your world, but it's on a stick, as opposed to in a bowl.

[He takes the bar from him]

No, we don't have this kind of desert back home. There's a candy in the last city I was in. It's called Tanghulu, which candied fruit served on a stick, and there's dumpling served in sweet syrup.

[He takes a taste. It's very cold, creamy, and sweet with a touch of sea salt]

Lea, this ice cream is really good. It's delicious.

[Lea made a sound of interested acknowledgement at the information about the sweets from Xingchen's world.]

I might have to see if I can make something similar here. I've made grilled fruit skewers before, and not too long ago here I made honey candy that turned out pretty well.

[The reaction to the ice cream makes him grin though.]

I know, right? It's been my favorite ever since I was a kid. It's the salty-sweet combination that makes it work so well, I think; neither of them is overwhelming and it just becomes this nice balance.

[He's very touched] Oh Lea, you don't have to...I think the candy is a...um, it was made in that region, so it's very local food and made in a specific way. But I may have forgotten the recipe. But I think making grilled fruit skewers and honey candy maybe a good substitute and equivalent to that.

This ice cream is very delicious. There's no ice cream where I'm from, so this is a great treat that you brought me.

Eh, it's no big deal; I like cooking new things. Especially when they turn out to be really tasty and I can share them with my friends. My mom always said that good food has a way of bringing people together, and we can always use a bit more of that on the train.

And I'm glad you like the ice cream, though I can't take credit for that one. My friend Xion buys them from the shop.
