Imagination day 17 ; voice

[The surgery is complete and a success. He is resting on one of the beds in the medical room on the second floor. There are several layers of gauze wrapped around his head and he wraps himself up with blankets. It's a weird sensation to actually feel something in those sockets, as it has been years, and he realized he has eyes. But he's not ready yet, as he used to the darkness.

It must have been many hours, but he was knocked out. Upon awakening, the unpleasant side-effects of the anesthesia wear off, and he's starts waking up, feeling groggy after sleeping for a long time, that he's too weak to even call out to anyone nearby him, so speaking into the device]

Hello...? I think I'm all right? Is this thing even on? I'm awake. I'm okay, just had a very long sleep and a very long dream. I think all I ever wanted right now is blankets, pillows, and this sweet called ice cream? My head doesn't feel so good.

I'm going to lie down for a little bit.

Yep, it's me. And yes, you probably should lie down. The medication, and Glorfindel-san, kept you asleep and dulled the pain of the procedure. I'll be there in a few minutes to check on you.

Ichigo knocked on the door of the room before opening it, so he wouldn't startle his friend and patient. "I come bearing ice cream. And with a small furry friend, to boot." He came over and took Xingchen's hand to put the ice cream bowl into before lifting Shiro up into the man's lap. "It's my cat, Shiro. Pretty soon, you'll be able to see what he looks like."

Xingchen is lying down on the medic bed for the most part. He heard the knock on the door.

He brightens up, "You did? You brought ice cream for me? That makes me happy~♪" For the most part, he has eyes again so it's a strange feeling. But he's been advised to rest and focus on his healing for the most part.

He felt a lightweight on his lap with small paws. "You have a cat? Hello Shiro." He raises a hand to stroke the cat's ears and back.

"Hey, you asked for it and there's no medical reason you can't have it. Hold on, and I'll lift the head of the bed so you can lean back on it." Reaching behind Xingchen, Ichigo raised the head of the bed to make it easier for the man to sit upright. "How are you feeling?"

Now that he sits upright, it's a little better and changes in position. "I'm feeling much better. So that medicine...anesthesia, right? Makes me feel a little woozy."

He pets the cat, hearing it's meow and he smiles. "Is it going to wear off soon?"

Shiro curled up in Xingchen's lap and started to purr happily. "You'll be pretty tired for most of the day, and you'll probably be in and out of sleep a lot. But it will wear off after that. You'll probably be fine by morning, unless one of the healers comes to check in and can help you metabolize it faster."

He gives the cat a few pets, where he senses where it is. Then finding and searching for the spoon, he eats his ice cream.

"That's good. I'm not in a rush to heal and recover, as that takes time. After this, I'll rest and sleep a lot."

He hums in delight, as the ice cream is really good, so he keeps eating it, and the wooziness of the meds wears off.

"Good plan. As you heal, we'll slowly reintroduce visual stimuli to you. Starting with dark and low light situations so that regular light levels don't hurt you or cause any migraines." While Xingchen ate the ice cream. Ichigo checked the bandages to make sure they were still doing well. "I am going to change your bandages once you finish the ice cream, though. So far everything looks to be on track, but I'll dim the lights when I do so it's not so bright through your eyelids."

Xingchen nods as he listens to his advice. and he sits still to allow him to check, while eating away at his ice cream, and feeling better that he's on track.

"All right. I'll close my eyes when you do need to change. How long do you think it will take for me to see again?"

"Well, you'll certainly need the bandages for a few days. And things might be blurry for a few weeks. Your brain needs to relearn how to process the information your eyes receive, but the more you work on it the stronger your vision will become." Ichigo was more than happy to perch on a stool and wait for Xingchen to finish his ice cream. "Because you've been without your vision for so long, I really don't know how long it'll be until you have clear vision, but I'm under the impression that you can accelerate your healing with your cultivation?"

Xingchen simply listens and nods, in wonder of his knowledge. "You're right, I have to take care of my eyes." But there's healers around to give him help for that for the next few weeks.

"Oh, I've been blind for years. I gave up my eyes to Song Lan. He's my best friend. A grave accident happened to his eyes, so I made the choice and sacrifice to save him."

At this question, "I could. That requires meditation and time." And depending if he has a will for it. "That means I need to rest and focus on my lifeforce to help with the healing."

"Yeah, you'll have some atrophy in the optic nerves. But a slow introduction of stimuli should help. And the meditation to have your cultivation work on reviving the nerves."
