Imagination 13, morning; Voice.
Given I'm going to be here for at least another day, I figured I'd update the out-of-date Welcome Guide thing we have. The last month has been ... Busy and I let it slide a bit. Last I looked, there should be copies next to all the carriage ICPs though they're at least a month out of date.
[Tired deadpan -even a bit sheepish- Eva is go, and by now, people should at least have an idea of why Eva's locked in a Medical Cabin.]
I think we should add a section on missions, but Lightning-san was handling this? [As far as she knew, anyway.] I also know we found out a fair bit this mission, and I believe we need to start record, as detailed as possible, on what we know about our situation.
[A sigh.] Regardless, if you have any additions to the Welcome Guide, let me know here or drop by my medical cabin.
(OOC: I've put up a Gdoc for the Welcome Guide and commenting should be enabled. Basically, if there's things on that that need updating or editing, make a comment!)

[Not that she'd honestly blame them if they didn't, but still.]
True, and we can at least shove the Guide into their hands that way. Which is something we should organise for the Platform after this. I'm not even going to try for this one.
[The mission did a number on everyone. 0/10, would not do again.]

[ A beat. ] Not that they shouldn't know you, they should, I just mean it's the kind of thing that might make other people feel involved in the group. [ She may get the impression he's been thinking. ]
[ A shorter pause, though. ] I definitely do not mean me.
no subject
[She can tell and she really has no complaints about it at all.
Well, outside the fact she's now got far more to think about and it's only been a day, if that, since mission end.] Oh, so I can put you on copy duty then?
no subject
Sure, if you want. [ She can probably hear his shrug. ] I just mean I'm not the most uh, welcoming person, there's probably people with real social skills who could do it better.
[ Like a certain Mentalist, but also there had to be less social disasters on their team overall right? ]

[Plus it gives her time to get her head back on straight so to speak.]
I mean printing out or writing out copies.

[ He has blocky, technical writing that looks exactly as it's supposed to, clearly something he copie when he learned. It at least makes it neat. ]
Are you really so bored you can't stand this? Wait, aren't you supposed to be sleeping?
[ Hi pot, it's kettle. ]
I could bring you some tea if that would help.
no subject
Ah - more like I need my head back on straight before I start Thinking - and, I've been up for an hour-ish. Couldn't sleep even if I wanted to.
[It would be nice if she could!!!]
[That said - oh. That sure is a burst of 'Yes please' down the bond. Someone is desperate for tea!]
.... If you don't mind?
Voice > Action
I'll be there in a minute.
[ Senku will arrive not long later with piping hot mugs, but there's nothing too exciting here, it's chamomile tea. ]
Action!
[Tea is life.]
I remember who speaks what. Well, at least who shares languages or can communicate effectively. I speak Yamatan, which is similar to Japanese, if that helps.
no subject
Oh yeah? You remember what I speak? [ He's teasing slightly. ]
A lot of people seem to speak Japanese, I think. At least the few I ran into without my SCA. [ Including, of course, Gen, but Senku knew that about him. ]
shall we start wrapping to a 'talk forever fade out'
[There's a nod.]
I think something called 'English' is the next major one here, though it's like nothing I've heard in my life. Interesting to listen to though and kinda chirpy at times.
Hmmmm couple more XD
[ He is Japanese, that's not surprising. ]
I also speak English, and Russian. [ He chuckles. ] Very fluently.
I don't find it chirpy, but it was kind of a pain to learn, but that's because I did it wrong.
Sure.
[That she can remember right now at least.] Anyway, how do you manage to learn a language wrong?
[Was that even possible?]
no subject
[ He smiles a little bit. ]
Typically you learn a language going through several steps, learning grammar, that kind of thing. We had English classes in school, except that I needed to know much faster than that because I wanted to send an email to NASA, which was in the United States, so I learned mostly using the dictionary.
After I got the first response, I kept up correspondance with the scientist so it became pretty important.
no subject
[Says the one who hasn't touched one in years.
Also the player disagrees with Eva.]Tell me you were understood somewhat, or had a basic grasp on grammar at least?
no subject
I was understood. We were still learning 'this is a pen'. [ He offers a wry smile. ]
That said, it became more important because a lot of scientific papers are written in English anyway. It was inevitable, if I was going to be an astronaut since English is the language they speak on the ISS. The Russian came about for the same reason, the Soyuz is a Russian craft after all.
Dr. X and I corresponded for years after that, right up until petrification. In fact, I sent him the research I was doing on the swallows before the main event.
no subject
[Either way, she's nodding - and interested in this, though anything else she wants to ask can and will wait, because what-]
Swallows? [That's a... bird, right? Hell if she knows. Non-pokemon animals are weird.] What do swallows have to do with this?
no subject
[ There's a lot there people could ask about really. ]
Ah, they were petrified before people were. Probably a day and a half before perhaps? Something like that. Worldwide every swallow fell from the sky all of a sudden. It was completely fascinating. I learned a lot.
no subject
[Yeah's assuming 'her' until corrected.]
Wait- So you're saying the petrification used swallows as a test? Why? That-That doesn't make sense? They're not related genetically to humans... right?
[She's so confused!]
no subject
[ He hums, thinking about it, but it's a fleeting thought. Most likely still petrified, without a doubt. ]
Not in any particular way, but there was a study I skimmed once that said that even though there are many subspecies of swallows, their genetics are nearly identical to one another, a lot like humans that way. That's only a theory. I honestly have no idea at this point why the swallows were a test.
I can tell you it happened worldwide, I tracked the online chatter about it, filled in the gaps enough to know that it was actual birds and not some elaborate artpiece. I actually sent all my data to Dr. X. I was also experimenting on them, trying to figure out what kind of material that calcification was because it's not like any rock I'm familiar with, it didn't behave the same way as other rocks.
I hope I'm remembering threads right.
That said, it sounds like it's more than a theory at this point, given all swallows where affected, then all humans, and from what I've gathered, you've not only figured out to reverse it but also got the thing that did it in the first place, so it should impress this Dr X when you do get a chance to revive him, right?
[OH YE OF ETERNAL OPTIMISM.
That said, she's very much impressed herself and sounds it too.]
You are :D
[ He tilts his head, would Dr. X be impressed with him? He's not sure. ]
I'm not sure if he would or not. He might be. He's a man of science after all. He just has a very strange view of it.
\o/
[She'll come back to the Dr X stuff in a bit.]
no subject
I'm not sure the motivations either so really, I could be way off, but it's my first hypothesis at least.
no subject
Motivations... because it could be done? [He'll definitely get the feeling that she's not impressed by her own words for some reason- but a talk for another thread.] Who even knows, but knowing you, you'll figure it out.
