...If we could arange for a way that I could help without getting involved with the stoves...that might be wise, [she manages with a cough.] ...I would rather not cause food poisoning of some sort, you see...

Well...! Why don't you ask someone if they'd be willing to teach you to cook first? But you really don't have to do something you don't feel confident in.

Or you can help with the kitchen clean-up! That's still working in the kitchen.

Both of those are rather good points actually, when I think of it. I should probably apologize for panicking so quickly when I saw the assignments...

Don't worry about it! But if you think you're gonna poison everyone just by being in the kitchen, you shouldn't feel like you need to be in there either.

You'll probably see some people from other teams cooking anyway. That's how chores always are.

I don't know about genuine poisoning, but at the very least things would end up over cooked...

Ahh, though that's true, I did a few runs of my own laundry despite things, last week....

Out of habit? It is weird handing out your stuff for other people to clean... I still can't get used to it, personally.

Somewhat? I do a fair amount of gym work, so it's better to have those clothes washed ahead of time rather than wait... ...I once shared a dorm room where such chores were split between others, so it's not as odd as it could have been I'll admit.

[ A scoff. ] Yeah, getting through clothes when you just had what you came with and you like visiting the gyms -- that wasn't any fun.

[ Not that he likes leaving his laundry around in a cramped cabin now or anything. ]

What's your fun? The sports gym or the training gym? You have those things where you're from?

Ahhh...I wouldn't say it was for fun? Though we certainly have those yes...

[She blinks, continuing.] My work back home required constant training though, so I didn't want to fall off track...

Ohhhhh. So you're a training gym kind of person, 24/7? You do much for fun?

N...not quite...

And of course I do things for fun!! ...though exercise certainly isn't one of those things...

As I said, it's simply so that I don't fall behind with work- the job is very physically demanding...

Aha, sorry, I wasn't that serious! I just know a lot of people who spend most of their time in the gym than knowing what else to do.

That's somewhat sad, if I'm going to be honest...

Ah-] Ah- oh, of course! It's quite fine. Where I came from, it was possible to enter the realm of the soul in order to restore it; that was my job. Unfortunately in many cases, a soul requiring such help means it's been torn open to other realms, filled with beasts...

...Suffice to say, we need to be capable of handling those.

Souls get messed up...but then they end up all over the place and you have to find where all the pieces ended up?

That isn't too far from the answer actually...there's typically only 'one' piece, but the trouble is that it's lost within an entire mess of things, while other 'false' pieces try to fit themselves into the hole.

My task is to find the one that belongs there, and put it there, more or less. Without causing any further damage, of course.

... it sounds like a headache. [ He's actually having difficulty imagining it. But then, he only had a vague idea about realms in the first place. ] Last person who told me about realms just made it sound like a different world people go to. Or something.

I can't imagine what fixing up a person by their soul is like...

Well, it shouldn't be necessary here at least, so I wouldn't worry too much about the matter...ultimately after all, it would never be relevant, neh?

Right! But it's fun to learn about, all the different things people do out there. Even if it's confusing or you've never heard about the stuff that goes on.

It makes me think about how big everything is. Where I was from- it was pretty small.

'Small'? As in...you didn't travel much, or something else?

Uhh, well.. I didn't travel much 'til I left, but actually, a lot of the world got messed up 'cause of a big problem we had. Most of it was destroyed! So there's one big continent, then a few tiny islands around it.

[ Despite how bad that sounds, he says it like it's normal - since it is, for him. ]

All the other worlds I hear about always sound bigger! Like Earths. They have Aremicas and Japans and, and a whole lotta cities? It's pretty cool.

Destroyed!? There's actual evidence of that!? [Now that's intense!]

Ahhh...well, depending on how large your continent is, it might not necessarily be the case; Japan for example, is actually quite small- it's a handful of islands, and you could feasibly walk end to end across them within the span of a little more than half a year. There are numerous cities there, certainly, but I would say this is more due to the density of the population more than anything.

[ Evidence? That's kind of funny, given the circumstances, but- ]

Hmm, Japan sounds... maybe as big as Spira. [ If he thinks about it... ] Maybe smaller? We had to cross the entire continent for a journey, so - from one end to another. [ Funnily enough. ]

But yeah, a lot got destroyed. Uh... nothing really exists, but - maybe people'll find out more about how everything once looked. I hear digging up things from the past is pretty popular now. And they're using more machines to help!

Just what sort of calamity must have sunk everything else then...if there's something to dig at all then clearly there was something there but...
