video + poll - Horseshoe 18, evening
Hey, everyone! For those of you who don't know, my name's Lea. Back at the beginning of the month, I posted a message here wondering about how the names of the train's months get decided, and how they seem to be going in alphabetical order. After talking a bit with Kitty, we came up with an idea of having a little fun with the idea by starting up a sort of betting pool around it.
The rules are simple. Post a message here with what you think the name of the next month is going to be. It can be video, voice, or text, whichever works best for you. The only criteria are that the name you pick has to be a noun starting with the letter 'i'. Don't worry if your word is a duplicate of someone else's though; that's actually important.
After about a week, I'll take the top three most common answers and put them up on a sheet of paper on the dining car wall. Then you just sign your name under the one you think is most likely to be the name of the next month. If the new month is named one of those three words, anyone with their name under the correct word will get a voucher that they can hand over to someone whose name is under one of the words that didn't win in exchange for either a small favor- think something like doing one of their chores for them or fixing them a meal- or a cheap item from the shop - something 10 points or less.
If none of the words in the betting pool win, no one wins or loses anything. Though we can always try it again for the month after if people like the idea. Anyway, I hope everyone has fun with it! I'll put up written versions of this message too, for those who might've missed it or are just late getting their ideas in, so there's no big rush.
Good luck everybody!

[voice]
[And challenging, hmn...]
...Isopod?
Re: [voice]
It also might have a better chance than some, since so far, every other month has been named after a plant or animal.
no subject
What other animals start with I?
Iridescent shark?
no subject
But yeah, there aren't a ton of plant or animal names that start with 'i'. Not a lot of nouns that start with 'i' in general either.
no subject
Oh!
Would "island" work?
[Are you noticing a theme, Lea?]
no subject
Island is another good one. And another one I wouldn't have thought of. You're pretty good at this.
no subject
I wasn't even the best in my unit.
no subject
Were you in some kind of military though? Cause it kinda sounds like it.
no subject
[She pauses at that, not really aware that she had let that slip.] Oh.. mmm...
[Despite her trepidation, she returns the query with a nod.]
no subject
[He pauses, trying to figure out how to put this without going into too much detail.]
Well let's just say, the group I was part of? Teamwork wasn't usually one of their strong suits, either on missions or outside them. Also it was a fairly small group, so it made sense for most members to do their missions alone.
[Lea nods in return.]
It kinda sounded like it with the bits about 'units' and 'awaiting orders', so I was just wondering. I'm pretty sure you're not the only person here who was in the military back home.
no subject
[She nods.] I was... on a defense squad. We didn't see much action... and so we had to spend a lot of our day passing the time.
[Until the day they were invaded. But that was all she felt like divulging herself, anyway]
no subject
Well, we were the ones calling the shots for those like us. But we were all still Nobodies at the end of the day. Nothing much 'elite' about that, even if we were all pretty tough.
But yeah, makes sense. If you're playing defense and the other guy doesn't do anything, it could probably get pretty dull

If you lead, then you hold responsibility the responsibility for your troops. You can choose and direct. They follow and obey. They are relying on you them to lead to success... or to die trying.
[Leading to her point.] Your modesty does you credit, but you should also think about what you say means to your troops. They need you to be the leader they are counting on you to be.
[Even if she's no longer in the military, and is effectively AWOL, she held no hate for the chain of command.] It was dull, but it was a duty of great honor. I was proud of the time I served.
no subject
It's not modesty; it's just the truth. All of us, from Creepers on up, were Nobodies. With a capital 'N'. It's the name for the kind of being we were. Or well, sort of being anyway; it's complicated.
And it's nice that you're concerned, but I made a pretty decisive break with that group awhile before I came here. So on the off chance that any lesser Nobodies turned up here, they'd most likely try to kill me rather than being interested in anything I had to say. The Organization... isn't really the kind of group that accepts resignations, if you know what I mean.
[Are you getting the impression that maybe the group he used to be part of aren't nice people yet, Eight?]
But I'm glad you got to do something that was important to you like that.
no subject
[Still, it was... strange, hearing someone like this harbor these thoughts.]
Why did you leave?
no subject
I wanted to get one of my best friends back. He left before I did, and my orders were to either drag him back... or eliminate him. There were some complications to that, and well... Once I started trying to get him back just because he was my friend, and not to drag him back to the Organization, they were out for my head too. The whole 'no resignations' thing, you know.
no subject
[It was too grim a thought for her to dwell on. In the end, it wouldn't even matter. She couldn't come back. She knew this. The world was far too big to be held underground. And there was more love in the hearts of the people on the surface. She would persuade. She would fight. She would die, even. But she would never, ever go back.]
...you are a terrible Organization member. [She said without a hint of malice. There's a pause, and her tone becomes much softer and warm.] ...and a very good friend.
no subject
Guilty as charged. And thanks.
Though if I was smarter, I'd have just gone with him when he left.
[Maybe then he'd have... No. No way of knowing if it would've improved anything. Or if Roxas would've even accepted the offer at the time.]
Guess I was always just a bit slow on the uptake about some things.
no subject
But by the grace of chance we take part in this dance
And put our faith that our hopes and dreams take wing.
[She shakes her head.]
I'm sure you did what you thought was best at the time.
no subject
[Which was honestly part of the problem. He'd thought he was doing the right thing, but in the end, he'd just messed things up more.]
That's true enough though. And pretty poetic. You come up with that yourself?
no subject
[Her face glows magenta and she could just nod.]
[plsdon'tjudge]
no subject
I was never much for writing poetry myself, but it's always kinda cool seeing what other people can come up with.
no subject
You get... a lot of free time... on guard duty...
[Beet. Red.]
no subject
I guess you spent that time pretty well then.
Kinda makes me wonder if anybody else I know might have a secret poetic side. Isa seems the type- quiet, keeps mostly to himself, secretly pretty sensitive- but I've known him long enough to know he doesn't really do poetry. Maybe Kairi or Ienzo, though; Kairi writes a lot and Ienzo literally used books as weapons when he was with the Organization.

Evening Lea, I'm Silvia. What a cute idea!
[Or was he the type of guy that disliked the term? Eh- it was too late to amend it]
So it's horseshoe this month... maybe it'll be Icicle? [Ok, so she didn't have a method here. The horseshoe had reminded her of a certain sugary cereal but it didn't have any marshmallow shapes that started with "i"]
Re: Video
Nice to meet you, Silvia. And yeah, I thought so too.
Anyway, icicle goes on the list.
