Did Gen actually think he was planning on tossing him into the void? He let out a soft snort, rolling his eyes.

Senku leaned in close, speaking to him, whispering in his ear.

"You're in my good graces, Mentalist."

Gen thought they were both joking before. And maybe he would’ve kept on thinking they were kidding around, but. Senku seemed oddly sincere. Which meant he had been referring to one of the other two options. Which -

- Wait, was he still messing around? Or, well Senku never made those jokes before so -

Gen realized belatedly that he was both blushing, and speechless, for at least a full minute. Maybe more. What kind of Mentalist was he? He laughed a little nervously. “Ah, that is a relief to hear, Senku-chan.”

"Ah, well, can't have you thinking I am planning on tossing you out in your sleep or something."

Senku was mildly amused he'd rendered Gen speechless, but also he backed away again, happy enough to avoid questions like, was he serious, and which one?

He'd leave it alone if Gen did.

Gen took a breath, and he’s given enough time that he could reboot his brain, and ... decide Senku was joking. Somehow. Really.

He gave him a sly smile. “My dear, if you wanted a hug, you should’ve just said so.”

"I said no such thing! I specified nothing!" Senku flailed a little bit.

"Well, now I want to yeet you off the train." He complained.

“Noooo, Senku-chan, I’ll give you your hug, don’t throw me off the train!” Gen smiled because they both were ridiculous, and leaned forward to do exactly that.

He did not actually think Gen would do it. Like everything else, he was the exception to the rule.

Senku sighed but would allow it to happen, even if he wouldn't return the hug. He didn't protest or complain. It was no different to him than curling up with Gen or letting him root around in his pockets. The other man was often in his space.

"Satisfied?"

Gen wasn’t expecting to be successful. How often did he see Senku kick Taiju in the face to get him away? Or cringe and make a face when a grateful villager hugged him? He did this knowing he’d probably get smacked. It was all part of the fun.

No, instead, he got to give him a warm hug. Gen checked his expression - he wasn’t cringing, he didn’t look disgusted, he didn’t seem like he hated it. That was basically just like hugging him back, for Senku.

His chest did something complicated, and, not wanting to think about it - Gen let him go before long. He grinned and joked, “You’re the one who wanted a hug, my dear.”

"I never said that!" Senku protested, rising to the bait to diffuse whatever this tension was between them.

"I'm pretty sure that's what you implied," Gen sing-songed, clearly enjoying Senku being harmlessly flustered.

He's almost certain he didn't overstep, because again - no boot to the face.

"I implied no such thing you're the one who decided what I meant!" Senku blushed lightly, a little flustered.

He hadn't overstepped, he had no problem causing a fuss if people got into his space when he didn't want them to.

"Also for reference your mentalist games are trashy and dumb." He said bluntly.

It's on the tip of his tongue to ask what Senku was implying instead. But given that two out of the three options were eliminated?

... It was surely just a joke, right?

He willingly grabbed the change of subject.

Gen smiled smugly. "Trashy, dumb from all appearances, and incredibly informative. People were willing to share all kinds of things, Senku-chan! And some were so angry at the idea of harming anyone - I think you'd get along with them very well."

It was a silly game, after all.

"I'm sure I would." He grinned. "But I'm sure that we'll figure it out anyway silly mentalist games or not."

He wouldn't interfere in Gen's reconnaissance, after all it would be beneficial.

"The silly Mentalist games work, my dear, some day you'll admit that," Gen said cheerfully. "Perhaps you'd like to know who'd like to yeet me off of the train?"

"Aside from me, you mean?" Senku quipped, joking.

"Senku-chan!" Gen whined, also joking, "you're so cruel to me! I'm the only Mentalist on this train, what would you do without me?"

"Hmmm, you have a valid point I don't know. Guess I will keep you then." He nudged him with his elbow.

Gen blushed a bit again, but at least this time, it could hardly be noticed.

Senku was going to ruin his reputation as a suave, masterful Mentalist, at this rate ...

"It's for your own good, keeping me around," Gen claimed, fluttering his eyelashes ridiculously.

He was all too amused by that and he chuckled. "Yeah, yeah, fine. You are a pain in the ass, Mentalist."

"You say the nicest things to me, my dear," Gen laughed too.
