 In my efforts to expand our medical supplies and capabilities, I want to be able to establish a blood bank. If you are willing to donate blood to be typed and crossed for use in medical emergencies by other passengers on the train, please reply here as I will be making a list. While I am hoping to get as many people as possible, this is VOLUNTEER ONLY. I will not force anyone to donate. Donations will happen after the next platform once I am able to secure the needed equipment and storage facilities.

I know this might make me sound stupid. But when you talk about a blood bank you mean you give blood and it gets put in a bank?

To start with I'll only be drawing one bag per donor. Roland-san raised a good point about the blood only keeping for 42 days, so I don't want a huge supply going bad. Plus, it's not healthy to take more than one bag per person every few weeks. But I will put you on my list, Romeo-kun, thank you!

It's kind of like that. What it'll be is I'll insert a needle into a vein in your arm. There is negative pressure in the bag attached to the needle that will pull blood out of you into the bag until it's full, at which point I'll remove the needle from your arm and bandage the site. Then the tube connecting to the bag gets clamped off to keep it sealed, the bag gets labeled with your name, and put in a specialized refrigerator that will be locked to medical staff only. And if, god forbid, you get hurt badly enough to need blood replaced because you've lost more than your body can replenish on its own, there will still be one sterile needle on the bag that can be inserted back into a vein on you and the bag can be hung on a pole so that gravity assists the blood in leaving the bag and going back into you. Does that help it make more sense?

It is entirely up to you. If you choose to participate, only you would get your blood. There's a reason why I'm wanting a personalized supply, I'm not sure my blood would be safe for anyone else, either.

Perfect sense. Just never heard of anything like this before, so it's a whole new thing for me to learn and understand.

That's perfectly understandable. I know there's a lot of differences in the levels of tech and medicine between all the different worlds.

it's also something I should get to know and understand should it ever be used on myself. That way it isn't as scary.

If you ever have questions about medical stuff, feel free to ask me. I'm more than happy to help explain it to you. Back home, I'm in school learning to be a doctor, and I'm the son of a doctor, so I've been around the field my whole life.

Um... I don't think so. I never saw a needle before I don't think. But I don't think I will faint!

Well, if you do start getting dizzy, I know some ways to help treat that while I'm drawing your blood.

Does that happen lots? Do people get dizzy? How do you treat it sir?

Well, sometimes it's just because they can see the needle in their arm, so you can put a towel over it so they can't see it. Other times, if that doesn't help, you just stop the donation, put a bandage on their arm and give them some juice and something to eat.

Oh yeah, I'm a pro at this. I mean, my own sisters trust me to take their blood more than they trust our dad. And he's been a doctor since before I was born. Though that could just be his over the top personality.

Oh, I guess that makes sense. [A shrug.]I'm pretty sure I have ectoplasm in my blood,and I'm really not sure how safe that would be for anyone else.
