Video - Grasshopper 20
[ The ICP comes on, broadcasting a message to all from the Library. Two figures stand side by side, one decked in elegant custom garb; the other in utilitarian Purple, with the standard coat that comes with their gear. Ladies and gentlemen, presenting Glorfindel to the left, his smile open and inviting; next to him is Roland, arms crossed against his chest, expression a bit more serious. ]
Greetings, all! For those who are new to the train, allow me to introduce myself. My name is Glorfindel, and this is a brief announcement for those on the Purple Team. And perhaps, for those who may just be interested in what we have to say, colors aside. [ There's a playful lilt at the end of his statement, but he continues with the broadcast. ] You are all cordially invited to the very first Purple Team Mixer, to be held at around Grasshopper 27 in a location to be announced, on the Train.
[ Roland nods and continues where Glorfindel left off. ]
That's right. My name is Roland for our newcomers onboard, and the purpose of this mixer is so we can get to know one another a little bit better. We've got a lot of new additions to the Team, and Glorfindel and I - [ He glances to his side. ] will be acting as two of Purple's Team Leads starting now, as well. We hope to work hard for your continued trust. [ He makes a fist with his right hand and emphasizes his point with a small pump in the air. Glorfindel dovetails after. ]
The mixer is quite simple really! Aside from mingling and gathering as one, we'd also like to discuss various topics of interest such as supplies, mission protocols, training opportunities, and how the two of us can help any one of you, in any way we can.
So it's a mixer and a Purple town hall, if you'd like to look at it from that perspective. If you have ideas on how to improve things, this is the time to come and share your thoughts. We welcome it, and we'll do our best to facilitate everything neatly and concisely so the right steps can be put into place for the betterment of all.
[ Both of them sound like they've done this before...The tone shifts slightly more pleasant now, a little more casually as Glorfindel lights up (not literally, not yet!) ]
Plus, there will be bar snacks. [ 'Bar' meaning yknow. He's trying to be subtle! There are children onboard!! ] Oh, and of course, non-alcoholic beverages too, for those who are underage or can't have alcohol! It's going to be fun, even if we'll be planning alongside the chatting!
[ Roland smiles with a side glance to hisnew work husband partner, and turns back to close off the broadcast. ]
Glorfindel and I are ready to be of service to the team. Purple is made up of a lot of talented folks, and with our combined efforts, I'm certain we can make our dynamic even better than it already is. We're looking forward to seeing everyone then. [ The two share a look before nodding to the ICP. ]
Thank you for your time. Over and out.
(OOC: either glorfindel and/or roland will be threadhopping to reply to tags on this post! for Purple-mates, the actual mixer log with top-levels will be on August 23 IRL, so after the beach episode. so we can all have fun first!! or potentially get memshare trauma, which is the best time to discuss work, right?? please use this as your IC channel to discuss things and we can assume that these 2 will be taking notes as they go! )

Isn't there four of you now? What about the other two?
no subject
So, that settles it! Let me just write down your name as a volunteer...
[ He's not actually going to do it. But he's going to pretend that he is. Roland: 1 Tidus: 0 today!! ]
no subject
[ Joke or not, Tidus doesn't hesitate in his dismissal, arms even folding along with it (if it can be seen in the video transmission). ]
I'm not gonna be around enough to do it, so I'm a lousy choice. Pick Inigo, or let someone else volunteer! You know, that thing volunteering's supposed to be?
no subject
Thank you, Tidus. I had nominated Roland for Team Lead and look where it got me. But I don't think the Train needs a Captain, just yet. Perhaps a Cruise Director though? Someone to help plan out fun activities?
[Is it Voluntelling someone if they're already doing it?]
no subject
Cruise Director Tidus does have a nice ring to it, wouldn't you say?
[ He shakes his head, hiding a smile. All jokes aside, Roland takes Tidus's words to heart regardless of its intention, fully committing to the role that's been granted of him. ]
Don't worry. We're not going to be telling people not to help other teams, especially when we're pretty sure Purple's got the most manpower to spare anyway. [ He gestures with his right hand, like he's making a point, talking with his movements.] This is just us trying to organize what we can so everyone's talents are put to where they should be. I'm expecting to hear from you too. [ He meets Tidus's gaze from the other end of the screen, unspoken trust quite evident. ] You've got a head for looking out for others, Purple or not. That's good. It's what we need.
no subject
[ Because he'll get that in before Roland whips out Business Mode as he does. ]
I get it. I'll come anyway since you promised snacks. [ And for support and all that. Oh yeah, and because he's Purple, he guesses! ] But give me another job other than head counting if you're gonna give me anything. No offence, [ which he might mean a little, despite his casual easiness, ] but I don't plan to stick around Purple unless other teams can spare it. Blue and Red don't have many--and Blue's had the people defending jobs as Purple.
You can call me if you need me, but I want to help the other teams that don't have the numbers.
[ ...okay, so maybe he switched to more sincere by the end there, passion creeping into the sides--but it's how he feels. ]
no subject
[ Roland respects that and he's sure that Glorfindel might feel the same way, listening to Tidus speak the way he does, always looking out for those who may not know they even needed the help. It's what gives him a good feeling about the kid, the more they speak, the more time they spend together.
It's the same spark of inspiration that grants him an idea - whether or not it will lead somewhere is up to all of them... ]
All that aside, I think you're already on to something there. You're not the only one concerned about the lack of members in other teams. Why not be our eyes and ears, making sure we know who's coming with you to lend other colors support courtesy of Purple? [ He shrugs, non-committal without losing the air of encouragement. It's KIND OF A COUNTING JOB....but it's not a boring one at least. ] Think about it. The mixer isn't in a few weeks.
no subject
That's all we're asking.
Well, on the missions. On the Train, you're all Purple. [This is accompanied by a very quick wink, hope you didn't miss it.]
There are a lot of things that even those not labelled as "Team Leads" can do to help our Team and the Train as a whole. When someone finds their passion, we want to support that. And maybe provide snacks. [There is a very big grin, here.]
no subject
But Tidus is listening to more than their jokes, taking their suggestions into consideration. His mouth lopsiding briefly in the thought. ]
I think...if you want me to keep an eye on people, I can do that, but you should tell that to everyone who goes on a different team--like in general. Tell 'em to pick the bag of their home team, even if they're going to a different colour. All the missions always have the bags, right?
[ He shrugs, but he figures they'd be able to tell by their wrist bands anyway, if they needed another way of keeping track. But a team effort sounded better. ]
I don't really need anything myself. Just watch out for everyone too, and I'll do the same. [ Ah. He pauses, then changes tracks. ] Rol, you should ask for a few people to volunteer with carrying supplies, and not just you. And maybe we can ask Allen to hold more than his own food, or some potions too.
I'll put my points towards more of the Arms Bands when I get them. We should share them with the other teams too.
no subject
[ Though honestly, before Roland can even express this verbally, Tidus catches him completely off-guard - Rol?? He blinks, and he's...lost his words. A rare, rare moment of Roland rethinking what he even was going to say. Was that a nickname he just made up on the spot? He clears his throat, shifting in position. ]
All good points, Tidus. I'm taking notes. Let's bring it up with everyone at the mixer, as a point of discussion. The bag is a good idea, and for the record? I'd feel way better about letting everyone help other teams if I know you're looking out for them, somewhat. [ He nods seriously. ] You won't abandon anyone to the task. [ Said in certainty. He knows this of him, clear as day. ]
no subject
[Glorfindel has always appreciated Tidus's passion and ideas, and looks forward to what he comes up with next. Like the bag idea.]
We want everyone on Purple Team to follow your lead in this Tidus. You are a trendsetter, you know. [There is a big grin on Glorfindel's face there.] As 'Rol' said, we'll follow it up at the mixer, as well. If you have any other ideas, please let us know.
no subject
But hey, you two bring up about the bags, whatever else, I'll go along with it. I don't mind helping where I can, but if it's like last mission, Red Team didn't have anyone else from Purple 'cept me and Yuna, then Uta later on. [ So...
But he shakes his head anyway. ]
But I'll do what I can, don't you worry about it! And I'll keep you up to date. But hey, Glor- make sure this one doesn't take on more responsibility than he needs to either, hey? That goes for you, too, Rol. You watch out for Breadmaker here. [ Does Tidus think anything through before he says it, nope- ]
If you can spread some jobs out, do it! 'specially with four of you now. And if you do need headcounters -- get people to volunteer. But let people do it loosely, you don't need a fixed number, right? So people can go over to other teams if they want. Then you just pick the people you know who's left with you to do the job!
That's the best way, I think. Don't make people feel guilty if they wanna switch. People have friends in other teams. Or sometimes they can't do the job, and they know it.
[ Like Inigo and swimming. ]
no subject
- really? He cringes, looks up at the ICP, pen halting in its movement. ]
'Rol...'
[ Was he going to have to get used to that...? He shakes his head, arms back to his chest, crossed in his usual form. ]
Don't worry about me. I'll support Glor the Breadmaker and the Thunderstorms too, to the best of my ability. [ But still, he offers Tidus a nod, a slight tilt of his head, acknowledging the teen.
Stop calling out Inigo like that!] Thanks. You're helping us a lot, Mister Trendsetter.[ He was about to sound sincere, but he hasn't been served his Dry Sass of the Day yet. ]

"Even this last mission, there are still people unaware that they are free to go with whichever mission they want to. Though I am sure that some choose to go with Purple because they figure there is a reason that task was assigned to the largest group. It's a communication issue, I think. We'll work on it as a team, right?"
"As for sharing the load, we could really use a good quartermaster, and someone to coordinate the healers, both those that stay and those that go. If you think of anyone, please let us know, or ask them to come speak to us?"
no subject
It does disappoint Tidus to hear that people still thought they couldn't team switch, a thinning of his mouth when he hears it. He nods anyway to fixing it. Hopefully they could--and maybe later, he'd think about what a nice change it was, the team leads being receptive to people switching over teams.
For now- "Sure, though uh--how about Cassie for a quartermaster? First time I heard the word was from her. I know she wants to speak about that with you." If she hasn't already. "But there's Galo, he's a new guy--but he knows his stuff when it comes to first aid. Think he talked to you, Roland?" A look and pause to allow an answer.
But after: "Mami's a healer I know, and... there's Yuna. She's great at healing, you can't go wrong with her. I know some healing too... and then there was Reno."
Ah- "Oh yeah, and Uta. He's Black Squad like me, but he can make food appear. Just-" Tidus waves out his hands. "-There you go! It's some kinda power."
That wasn't asked for, but it's good to know.
no subject
"Those are some excellent options. We'll definitely approach Cassie about being quartermaster then. As for healers, we definitely have some excellent options and will want to talk to them all. Maybe have one or two as admin heads? Let the rest rotate depending on the mission and which team they go to?" There were so many possibilities, they'd need to see what the healers wanted.
He exchanged a look with Roland. "We hadn't thought yet about having a someone responsible for overseeing food and water, but that makes sense. Thank you for the suggestion!"
no subject
The smile on his face speaks volumes, however. So he can do things like this...Heh. Good work, Tidus. Roland's believed in his ability to care for others from the start, and in his silence, he celebrates the idea of helping the youth in his endeavors so more people can benefit from his assistance.
He meets Glorfindel's eye and nods. "Tidus has been gathering up rations and supplies for missions, exactly so people can take basic food and drink with them on planets. It's...honestly something the train shouldn't have overlooked, but I'm glad someone thought about it. It's been noted." And if he throws Tidus a look through the channel, well. That's for him to catch, if he does.
no subject
But he'll keep it short for now. He's spoken to the both about food separately, and really, all they could do was help themselves where the train didn't. "Anyway, don't know if that was for Roland, but how about deciding on admins once you get going?" Actually- "Do you need admin heads for healing? What do they do?"
It might be worth asking that. Admin sounded like paperwork. Did healers need paperwork?
no subject
"Sorry, I shouldn't have assumed. My background is as the Captain of the Guard at Imladris, which is the best House of Healing in Middle Earth. My lord Elrond trained other healers and never turned away a patient who made it to us. Erestor took care of the administrative affairs, making sure we never ran out of the supplies the healers needed to do their jobs correctly."
no subject
"We could bring it up during the town hall, ask if anyone's interested in what that Erestor guy could do. It can even be by rotation. Let's see where it takes us." Roland would volunteer in a heartbeat, but he'd rather open it up to people who may be more appropriate for the role. "All a matter of organizing it, really. No big deal." He smiles, almost excitedly. It felt like work he's more than familiar with; and he hasn't felt this way in a while.
no subject
"I just travelled with some guys for a while before I came here. I don't know a lot about military or organising people. We just did what we could and watched each other's backs."
There's a sheepish note to it, an honesty, an explanation of where he's coming from and the credentials of zilch he has. He's pretty sure Roland's already aware of that, despite all his thinking Tidus should step up and do more.
"But--yeah. Talk to everyone about it, and have a rotation. That sounds good to me! Let's all be on the same page."
But he isn't going to be shy about who he is and isn't. He was still a part of this train ride, same as the rest of them.
no subject
"That's exactly the thing we need, though. People to watch one another's backs. Look out for each other. That's all that matters, Tidus. All this," he waves one hand around in the air for emphasis. "This is just extra. Without that spirit to help others, then none of this would even have any point."
Roland is undeterred, knowing talent where he sees it. At the very least, he wants to encourage people like Tidus to be relentlessly aggressive about the way they approach these things; everyone had something to offer, even if it wasn't what they expected at first. It's why he's so agreeable to Tidus, jokes, banter and all. There is growing need to support him, make sure he succeeds.
"Besides, what I know about the military or organizing folks is probably nothing compared to Glorfindel's experience." He nudges his new co-Lead in a joking manner. "I'm just...talented at 'counting.'" A little inside joke for Tidus, but it's not like it wasn't true anyway. He knew what he was good at too.
no subject
"Tidus, your strength, in my opinion, is bringing in those fresh ideas and reminding us to look outside the box. You care about people, and that is not something that can be bought from a store. Please, never give up on that, and never think that your contributions aren't as important as anyone else's are. Even if Roland counts exceedingly well." With the last sentence he went from dead serious to laughing again, poking fun back at his co-Lead.
