Morning of Grasshopper Day 4 [video]

[ In Cabin 2:A, Curufin flails and falls out of his bunk with a crash, as usual when having a prophetic dream. Sorry, roommates! He disentangles his legs from the blankets, gathers himself up from the floor, grins with embarrassment at his long-suffering roomies, and then he scrambles over to the ICP on the little table. ]

Ah. . . good morning, Void Warriors. It seems I've had another premonitory dream, and like the others, it must be about the next mission. There wasn't anywhere near as much detail in this dream as in the others, though, and I don't know what to make of it.

There was just a clamor as of a battle taking place, but the sounds receded. [ Wry laugh. ] I must not have been in that fight, or I'd have known it!

Then suddenly there was a blaring alarm, maybe one of those modern sorts that they put on emergency vehicles or on buildings to warn of tornado weather? I had the feeling that some danger was approaching, even aside from the fact of the alarm. And then it screamed out again.

That's all. [ He scratches his head in puzzlement. ]

Jeez, I need some coffee.

It's a decent word for a lot of circumstances. I use it often.

No, nothing else. It was the most un-detailed dream I've ever had, prophetic or otherwise.

Well, maybe one more thing. The sound of the siren rose and fell in volume. But I don't know if that's important.

Sirens do that usually, don't they?

... I'm really not liking the sound of this.

I don't know, we didn't have sirens in Middle-earth. I've heard a few since I left my own world, but not enough to know what is usual.

I don't like the sound of this either. Especially after that disastrously aborted mission that the train would never explain to us.

Just need to keep our eyes and ears open on this one, and our guard up.

I agree. I just worry that this coming mission might turn out as crappy as the aborted one. That doesn't sit well with me, to just cut and run. How can we abandon those we went to save and still call ourselves Void Warriors? I really, really hope that doesn't happen again.

But what's the point in a dead hero?

No point. It's just a tendency inherited from my culture. We never went into battle without the awareness that we were probably going to die. [ Snicker. ] We considered it a good day if we rode away not dead.

But I get it. Not everybody thinks like that, and it's good that not everybody does.

No, I get it... [A lopsided smile of his own] Guess I just have more reasons to keep myself alive. A Shield's no good dead. Not protecting anyone that way.

[so_dark_a_road]

[ Small laugh. ] Yes, I understand. Your job is to stay alive for a specific task. Well, I hope none of us dies on this mission, especially not people who are dedicated in the way that you are. No, I'd better say especially not anybody!

You better not go getting yourself killed either.

[Looks pretty damn stern, the finger wag is implied]

[ Big smile. Points to his own chest, incredulously. ] What, me? Get myself killed? Why would you think I might?

Hmm... [Gives him a suspicious look, but nods.]

Alright. Just making sure you're not one of those types who give my type a headache and go running into the middle of an explosion thinking they can do some good.

[ Still grinning. ] Oh, but running into the middle of an explosion is exciting. Although to tell the truth, I'd rather set off an explosion than run into one.

Set of as many of them as you want. If I have to come and drag you outta the middle of one, I'll yell. Loudly. And for a very long time.

[ Curufin pretends to cringe, flinging his arms over his head as though to protect himself from a barrage of yelling. He's still grinning, though. ]

Aye aye, Captain! No running into a carpet of exploding artillery shells. I promise! I promise!

[He couldn't help it, he started laughing. But his smile was rather pleased]
