Bassoon Day 6 -- afternoon, video

[ Curufn has been awake for hours and is dressed in his road-crew orange clothing, but he came back for a shower, and he's still in Sleeper Carriage 2:A, speaking from the ICP in the cabin. His hair is not yet combed, and it is still wet and straggles about his forehead. He looks worried. ]

I hesitate to tell you this, but I think it's my responsibility. I had a dream last night, and I don't believe it was just a dream. Let me say that in my home universe, I had visions of evil things occurring, and they always came true. So, I'm sounding a warning, so that we may prepare in any way that we can.

I saw a city in flames. There were people in those burning buildings, and I heard screams. Other people were running, some escaping and some not. The air was choked with smoke.

There were winged creatures flying about this burning city, and I think they must have been demons, as I've seen that sort of creature before. I seemed to be standing quite near a building, as a wounded man came running around it toward me and would have escaped -- except that a small, white-haired, red-eyed being came swiftly behind him and stuck a spear into him. And then it turned on me, and I was about to get into a fight, but I suddenly awakened.

I don't know if many of you come from cultures that credit such visions, but I'm concerned.

Have you had such visions before?

Yes, I have. I've always had prophetic dreams and visions, and sometimes just premonitions. I used to dream of fire, and fire proceeded to destroy the home my third-eldest brother and I shared, and my son. Fire and a vast army of Orcs. We had to gather our people and run for our lives.

This is why this dream makes me nervous. My heart warns me that it is the prophetic kind.

My world was full of Orcs, who were soldiers of Morgoth, our universe's first Dark Lord. The War of the Ring was after my time. Long after.

Yes, I know what films are. I saw a few in the world I lived in before I came here. But I didn't see any about my world. [ An Elf from a children's story??? If the Silmarillion is a children's story, the children of Jocelin's time must be inundated with horror movies and thoroughly jaded. ]

What did they call it? [ He starts thinking up titles for The Lord of the Rings. ] The War To End All Wars? Or how about, Almost Everybody Dies Miserably?

[ Trust Curufin to joke about war. Sometimes he has an odd sense of humor. Also, he doesn't know the details about the War of the Ring and assumes that aside from getting rid of the second Dark Lord, it ended as badly for the combatants as did the wars of his time. ]

Huh. Interesting.

There were three films: The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and Return of the King. The whole series was called The Lord of the Rings. Based on the novels by Tolkien.

This Tolkien is some sage from your world? Hmm. I wonder how he would know anything about my world. Maybe he's a traveler of the universes, as I am?
