Hey, all you wild animals! If we haven't met before, the name's Della Duck. Now, I'm not tooootally sure if the calendar here really aligns with what time it was back home or even if time has real meaning at all here BUT ANYWAY! Far as I'm concerned, today is today and today is my birthday!

Now don't go worrying about parties and presents and stuff - I just got here, so we're all kinda too new for that. Instead, what I want is to make a whole bunch of new friends. So if you're up to it, give me three interesting details about you! I'll go first.

I'm a mom! I've got three boys, triplets, and they're the best.
I've got a twin brother! So technically it's his birthday too, and once again I missed out on the chance to celebrate with him... haaaa ha ha.
I'm an ace pilot! If it flies, I can control it!

So what kinda spells can you do? Or are you more of a potions sort of gal?

[Nita looks a bit more bemused now.]

Ever heard the phrase 'there's an app for that'?

Wizardry and spells are kind of like that, for us. There's still usually a price to be paid, but most everyday spells are low-cost.

[The 'years off your life' spells are less common... even though Nita has history with those, too.]

Or they do require specific ingredients present at casting, but that's just because of how they impact space-time, not because we're melting them down or anything.

Uh, actually, still trying to get used to the whole "app" deal. To make a long story short, I was away while smartphones exploded.

That's fair.

[Nita nods.]

They're pretty new when I'm from, too, and I haven't had the best history with pure tech. That's more my sister's thing, or Kit's.

But back to the topic! You fight off any wicked, vile sorceresses?

[Nita shakes her head.]

No - I've fought evil cosmic Powers, though; does that count?

... And zombies.

[The list is much MUCH longer than that, but those seemed the most 'standard' enemies for magic users to fight.]

Aw, sweet, zombies! I missed out on my chance while I was away. Are they fast or slow, like in the movies?

Mostly slow, but there was a lot of them. They had a lot of material to draw fuel from - literally.

[Nita actually looks somewhat nostalgic now.]

My friends and I got some help from a pumpkin, of all things.

Sometimes you never know what you can rework a spell for...

C'mon, you can't just leave details like that hanging!

[Nita snickers.]

Okay, fair's fair. So it started when I nicknamed my Halloween pumpkin Jackie...

And ended with me and my friends fighting to clear his home patch of yangshi. He and his pumpkin friends ended up eating them.

You raised carnivorous flesh-eating pumpkins?

That is so cool.

If spending one day with them counts as 'raising'...

[Nita ponders that, and the details of the battle, a bit more.]

Huh, I guess so.

Made for one hell of a Halloween, for sure - don't think there'll be a repeat, though.

Not on the train, anyway.

[The Greenhouse was a LOT smaller than that pumpkin patch had been.]

Who knows? If it does happen, we know who we can rely on!

[Nita blushes. Just a little, but it's there.]

Well, what's the strangest thing you've fought, then?

Only fair to swap tales.

Ah... hmmm. That's a tough one. I've been adventuring almost as soon as I hatched. Little tough to narrow it down to a number one.

Like that time with the Vikings... Moonlanders... that time all of Scrooge's enemies teamed up... The misplaced people from all of time...

[Nita winces at that last one.]

Time travel can be a real pain. Were you able to get everyone back to when they should have been?

Oh yeah! It wasn't easy, but thankfully nothing was ruined for good, and the time tub was destroyed.

[ Then, as an annoyed but clearly audible aside- ]

At least Gyro said it was, and he did lie the last time...

If there were blueprints, those are probably more important to get rid of either way.

[That, or it was a gift due to time travel, somehow. Subverting causation-and-effect gets weird, okay?]

... What was the last time, though, or should I ask?

I wasn't around for that, but apparently he accidentally got stuck in the old west for a while during the Gold Rush. He did help out back there, but I still say he shouldn't be trusted with it ever again.

[Nita whistles lowly, just a bit.]

Yeeaah, way too easy to screw that sort of thing up, even if you're doing what should be the right thing when you're back there.

[As one of Nita's friends put it, the future was so much more malleable.]

Better than being in a time loop, though; those are a headache, sometimes literally.

But I guess it's not always all bad. The Christmas Spirits know how to use time travel correctly, so it doesn't blow up in our faces. 'Cause of them, I got to meet my future kid... not that I knew it for a long time.

[Nita smiles.]

Metaphysical forces usually have the advantage over us regular people-

[Though Nita knows she's using that loosely!]

And... that sounds like one of the best presents of all, really.

[Geddit? 'Gift of a future?']

Though probably a bit confusing, before you got to see things going the slow path.

Oh, definitely. But it all worked out. And we avoided the "don't change the past by warning about the future" deal. That NEVER works out.

Oh, yeah.

Prophecies are pain enough; trying to go back and give something straight just makes it all worse.

[Insert twisted metaphor about time and being flexible to handle multiple probabilities here.]

Still, we haven't had to handle that on this train yet.

Except for visions, some people here do get those before missions.
