That's a reasonable idea. I can't imagine how some of the larger species are handling this.

[Fandaniel's glad this time he had a hyur form! It meant he actually fit! What if he'd gone with a nine foot tall wall of meat instead? Those beds just aren't made for anything other than normal shaped!

There's a pause, as he finally reaches for a bowl.]

... A bath? Your new roommate is .... a fish?

Oh, she's a....tiny whale? [ So yeah, a fish. ]

Some kind of wizard too. She speaks. Sounds like she needs the bath, and that bathtub wasn't there this morning.

[ So, it must have appeared at some point that they came into the station. ]

But saying that does remind Tidus with a small 'ah'. ] Oh yeah, that reminds me. My summoner friend's here. A good summoner, [ he thinks to add, considering Fandaniel's...comments on them! ] Though, she isn't a summoner anymore. There's nothing left to summon anymore.

[ Which he isn't sure if he shared that on their first day, but he'll repeat himself, just in case. ]

It could be a sign of further water-based troubles in the future. I am not keen on more ocean adventures.

[He hadn't been involved in the last one! in fact he'd been conspicuously absent the entire time. Which might be indicative of his dislike of deep sea fun times.

Wizards in the context of whales still meant magic!

Oh? [A summoner! Who is still alive!] There's always something to summon, if you have enough imagination, power and desires. I'm glad your friend is here! It should be useful should anything become dire enough that I have to indulge in summoning myself. What does she do now, if she no longer summons?

[ ...well, he might have to ask about still being able to summon, given the lack of summonings, but first- ]

She's a sphere hunter! You know what those are? Spheres? Things you keep memories in?

[ Since, you know, can't stay under the assumption the guy's from his world anymore. He'll wait for an answer before possibly explaining. ]

Where I'm from, memories are best kept in crystals. I will presume the basic idea is the same, unless proven wrong.

... Including elements. Fandaniel frowns. How would you get the memory to stay in a ball shape, anyway?]

What does she do with them when she has them?

Maybe! [ Crystals, spheres. Might just be the same idea. ]

They...sell them, I think. She's working with a group who goes out and finds them. History's been pretty forgotten in Spira, so it's a way of them finding out the past. And making things with them too. ...I'm not really sure about the specifics.

[ The future is odd, to say the least. ]

But, what you said about imagination and desires--what do you mean? Back in Spira, all the fayth are gone now. They moved on.

Mm. If the goal is to try to remember the history of Spira, and make records somewhere.. selling them to just anyone might not be helpful.

[So he's going to assume she's selling them to scholars, like any responsible person would!

The idea of making something out of a memory sounds like an ordinary creation matrix to him, and Fandaniel nods as if this is perfectly and utterly reasonable.]

[Because then he doesn't have to. He's not a teacher. And the two might not even be the same.]

You don't need faith to --- well, you do need faith to summon, but not in the way you are speaking about it. The techniques are .. oh, hundreds of thousands of years old now! All you really need to create a summoned being, is a clear idea of what you want to do, the will to do it, enough power to breathe life into it, and a decent instructor to keep you from blowing everything up. You could do it, if you had enough power to draw on. Anyone could.

[He crosses his arms over his chest, brow furrowing.]

Of course this isn't exactly well known these days. Nor is the required power usually available without significant work.

Huh...really?

[ It takes a moment for that to sink in some, and even then, that's--bizarre. A surprise. Someone could just make a summon? Without the fayth? ]

So...you don't need a fayth to make the aeon for you? You just...make it yourself?

[ Which seems to be what the guy is basically saying. A summoner being the one to summon completely.

But still, that deserves a moment more to really settle. ]

Yes. Someone dreamed up the summons you know, didn't they? They weren't handed that being. They made it.

[Finally, FINALLY he tries his own soup.

There are of course dangers. Think of it as picking up a strange weapon. Without training and knowledge and aether, a summoner is more likely to harm themselves than others.

[ ......huh.

It leaves a thoughtful knotted brow to Tidus's features, spoon kept still in his dinner as his mind attempts to make sense of that, compared to what he knows. Was the guy right? Maybe that's how it worked in his world -- but what if it didn't?

He twists the handle between his fingers. ]

I wonder if Yuna would wanna try? ...guess it would be dangerous, [ he says, a gesture that he'd heard that part. ]

There's so much about that world no one remembers... maybe that's the way summoners used to do it. Before Sin.

[Fandaniel meanwhile, uses the time of thought to work on feeding himself in comfortable silence. The train didn't do magnificent faire, and that's fine by him, he spent the last thirty years as the brat of a pirate family. This was more akin to home than any fancy meal.]

Yuna is your young summoner friend?

[Slurp. He knows exactly what real summoning means, and the costs involved.. and the sizes involved. On the train is probably a bad idea.]

I would, I think, have to meet her to gauge the danger level. Very few people have the personal magic reserves to summon on their own, it usually takes a large number .. or a lot of borrowed power by way of magical artifacts. And summons themselvs might not fit well on the train. If we do want to give it a try sometime.. perhaps on a stable star and not on this vessel.

[Seems reasonable to him.]

With time, perhaps, the damage this 'Sin' has done can be unraveled. Old magic has a way of returning, in time.

[ He nods to the question of the name, listens as the man goes on, munching on a vegetable as it ends up on his spoon. The practice of summoning may be one he'll always have a distance to--despite his close relationship with it--but he's intrigued nonetheless, what it means for Spira as a whole. ]

I'll ask her, [ he decides, fairly easily ~~though he won't get to since he's going to put his foot in his mouth instead~~. There may be dangers involved, sure, but he feels confident. ] Yuna's a great summoner--if anyone can do it, she can! She had a bunch of summons on her side. You'll be impressed when you meet her!

[ That he's sure. What's there not to be impressed about with Yuna?

But I think first before anything... you'll need to get better sleep! Think ear plugs will help you in the morning?

[Maybe he will be impressed after all. It wasn't often a mortal could do it but ... perhaps she wasn't. Or was unusually gifted. Or any other number of things! He's content to wait and see and reserve judgment; even an ordinary mortal could pull off proper summoning with the right amount of aether. Why not?]

I look forward to meeting her sometime. It should be interesting, if you think this highly of her she must really be something.

[Honestly he should be working harder on eating his dinner but he .. isn't. There's too much to think about.

There's a sigh, one full of weary agreement. He needs better sleep.]

I'm about ready to try anything, in truth. Who would have suspected it would take so long to get used to this vehicle's schedule?

[HE COULD CRY, IF HE DARED. Why won't it let him sleep undisturbed til noon!]

[ Man, the guy sounds bad when he says it like that, huh? Tidus tips his head slightly, wondering after a moment. ]

What about a sleeping spell? [ And, after a pause- ] Are you getting any sleep?

[ He knows the guy was grumpy about the early morning wake up calls, but Tidus at least suspected he was getting sleep before that! ]

I'm afraid status magic of that sort isn't really in my repertoire, I'm more of a shields and barriers sort of mage. I might have to actually ... raid the medical car for something. If it can knock out a patient, it's good enough!

[And bubbles do not help one go to sleep. He manages a brief smile, and for a moment it might even be genuine!]

Some sleep yes, thank Zodiark. About half of what I'm used to but it's better than nothing at all. I think at this point I'd be among the animated dead if I wasn't..

[That MIGHT be a joke, since the sleep deprived tend to turn into shambling zombies of the still living kind.]

Well if you get desperate enough, I know a sleeping spell. Normally I give fiends a whack when I use it-- [ and Tidus bops out his hand with his spoon in example ] --but it does the job!

But I think I should be able to use it without knocking you around with a sword.

[ Hopefully! ]

I won't turn down anything that might work. .. Aside from being battered by a sword, if possible. I'm not quite that desperate yet.

[Te spoon is eyed dubiously, as if Titus might suddenly out of nowhere choose to attack with it.]

But with some luck I'll just ... actually fall asleep at a reasonable time and the rude awakening of morning won't be as terrible.

[ Tidus just laughs, the spoon being used for nothing more than to scoop up food! ]

Just lemme know if you wanna give it a try. Our cabins can't be that far apart. [ Shrug! ] You'll be good practice for me!

Spellcraft I can handle but my healing spells are rather minor, I don't want a concussion all week. If you merely want to try attacking a target, I could put up a shield and you could do as you please, but ... not as a sleep aid.

I promise. Absolutely no weapons will be involved in getting you to sleep.

That's good to hear. If I can't manage to sleep at a sane time tonight perhaps I'll take up trying that sleep spell.

[But right now it's a bit early, and he has soup to hand over and eventually pots to clean.

[ The implication being, he can't shove the work on someone else! But with that cheekiness, Tidus chuckles. ]

I'm sure someone'll come in and help. I know there's other people who say they like working in the kitchen than the other jobs from other teams, anyway.
