[Eva's cheerful face appears on the screen and when she leans back, she's got one of the welcome leaflets in hand, and a smartphone-like thing hovering next to her shoulder.]

I should have asked this yesterday or a few days ago, maybe. Anyway, For those who don't know, I'm Eva Iden'no, and because it's Platform Day tomorrow, I was just wondering if anyone had anything they felt I should be adding to the Welcome Leaflets, both to the ones we hand out and ones stuck next to the ICPs.

[Eva pauses, then:] I'm also looking trying to organise it better and maybe print them off so there not handwritten any more, so if you have ideas, let me know. Fair warning though, I can only do so much via my phone, so I don't think I can get it looking that fancy.

I was trained as a courtesan. I knew anatomy before I could use the bathroom on my own.

[ He already knows and hadn't reacted badly. ]

I don't understand why people think it's a bad thing?

[ Explain it to her! ]

[Trowa puts Amira in her lap to be petted. She's going to end up as the train therapy cat.]

For many people the term courtesan and whore are interchangeable even when they shouldn't be. And because of the religious history of worlds similar to my own world's background, they find that to be shameful. They don't understand that courtesans are not simply women who get paid for sexual favors.

As long as Amira doesn't go after Dancer. [Eva gently coaxes said bird down onto her arm before she sits next to Misa.]

[There's a brief nod of greeting to Trowa, but the question is both expected and not, and Eva sorely wants to hunt down those responsible for making her friend unhappy and give them a piece of her mind.]

I have -perk of being very famous back home- [So much resignation in her tone at that.] but all that means is they can't see past their own nose to see the person. That said, give them time. And if they don't eventually come to realize it's your choice and your life, then they aren't worth knowing.

[Eva cocks her head with a thoroughly confused blink or ten.] What does religious belief have to do with sex work being shameful?

[ Misa shakes her head. ]

A whore is someone not connected to a House, and usually with a pimp, but not necessarily. I'm a courtesan, there's a difference.

[ She curls up a bit, moving Amira from her lap. she's not comfortable with most pets. Back at the House, they certainly weren't allowed. ]

But he's right, a Courtesan does a lot more than sex. It's about an experience and becoming what the client needs in that moment.

"It is an important distinction. I do hope they've been including self defense in your lessons, though. Just because your profession is more involved in pleasing your clients in various ways, it could still be dangerous." Trowa was the worrying type, especially when it came to those younger than himself in situations that could easily spiral out of control.

"Exactly. I'd go so far to say it's the most important one. And, that if others don't know or care about said distinction, that's on them, not you," Eva says firmly.

"Besides, if they don't know a whore from a courtesan, I don't think they'd be the kind of clients you'd want to take when you are of legal working age."

Whatever that may be for Misa's world.

"Jocko taught me self defense back home. I wasn't very good at it, but I could stab someone and run away." Which, sometimes, is the best thing to do.

She sighs. "If I'm stuck here, I'm never going to get clients." She points out miserably. "The Mistress would have run an exclusive auction based on my input, and the input of the others in the House. Then, at sixteen, I would have spent time with the three or four gentlemen, and then the auction would be held. I would have slept with one of them as my first client." She explains.

"I don't want to bother anyone, but why can't they let me be about it?"

"I'd be more than happy to help you work on your knife skills. I've been thinking about using some of the bamboo to make training knives that can't really hurt anyone, and in a pinch you could at least use a bamboo knife to poke the people who are giving you trouble about it. Eva's right, if people don't know the difference and don't care to, you wouldn't want them as a client at all." Trowa smiled gently, trying to be as reassuring as he could. "If they keep giving you grief, I could have some words with them for you." Even if those would be very unpleasant.

"I'd pay to have an hour of your time if you want to practice the non-sexual parts of your job," Eva says frankly and without any hint of shame, and most importantly, meaning every word. "Not sure what I could offer, but I would."

That said, she does nod in agreement with Trowa's words. "Same with me. I don't mind being the bad guy, either. Wouldn't be the first time."

Misa shakes her head. "Thank you, but no. I still have three years of training to go through." She sighs. "As for the rest? If someone would explain what's so bad, I wouldn't mind it. But it's like everyone is horrified, and doesn't want to explain it."

She looks at Trowa and Eva. "Thank you, both of you. I appreciate it."

"It's because they associate your work with selling sex and prostitution." Trowa didn't see a reason to sugar coat things at all. "Even though your work is more than that, a lot of cultures see them as the same thing. And since those same cultures have made sex something sinful and not to be talked about, sex work is considered shameful and something people do because they don't have any other options."

Eva nods, both in understanding and in agreement with Trowa's words and then she huffs and shakes her head. "Let me guess: because of their religious beliefs?"

"What does religion have to do with anything?" Says the teenager who wouldn't know religion if it smacked her in the face. She understands that some people worship deities, but not why that would matter.

"Courtesans, on Canto, are more of an experience than just sex, though. Sure, it factors in, but it's not just sex." The Mistress taught her well.

"Well," Trowa smiled, "at least in the history of my world, people used to put a lot of stock in religion. What the churches told them was the world of God was actual law of the land. And so if the church told people that God said courtesans are the same as whores, and whores are sinners. Therefore courtesans are bad people. And even as society evolved and political power strayed away from the religious leaders, some of those mindsets stayed rooted in the culture."

"It's the same in my world," Eva says with a nod towards Misa. "I've even heard that some people pay just to talk with them or have the company of one."

Yet, by the time Trowa's done, Eva's face is blank and disgust is bright in her eyes. "A leader's job is to keep her community together, not fracture it. I may hold fast to my faith in the gods of my world and worship them, but... Why would a god care what people did for a living? Unless... unless this god is unnatural and shaped after a person."

There's a grimace at the mere thought of a person-shaped god. That goes against everything Eva knows and believes in.
