Good evening, Voidtreckers. I'd like to announce a council meeting in three days. It's overdue and I believe we have a number of items to discuss.

Please council members take some time over the next few days to come up with and notify me of topics we need to discuss so I can prepare an agenda. If anyone who is not a council member feels strongly about a certain topic we should consider, either tell me or seek out a council member so they may relay the information.

Not really a fan of clandestine meetings, so... Good luck figuring it out.

[Oh hey, a word Alice doesn't know.]

Oh ah, I beg your pardon, miss, but what does clandestine mean? [Look, she followed along with everything else they talked about, but she has no idea what that word meant.] Does it have something to do with candles? No, I suppose that would be candelstine meetings...

It means to keep something secret and I really don't think we should in this case.

Why would you wish to keep any of your meeting secret? [Alice cannot, at the moment, really fathom what good keeping any information they talk about a secret. Unless it were a surprise party, perhaps, then that would need to be kept secret by virtue of it's nature. But otherwise?] What good does being secretive do you?

I don't know.

[There is a heavy, tired sigh. She hates politics. She'd quit the council, but she was voted in and she refuses to run away because she wants it to not be her problem. That's not what an adult is.] Supposedly to keep those new to such roles protected, but there's was offing that while still having it open after a fashion.

If you ask me, it's a power thing.

... Exactly what roles are being protected? [They still have to get on the train, if anything should be figured out, it should be how to stop that.]

A power thing? [Alice, being seven, has little to no power at all, being a female child of the Victorian era, even less so.] We were all forced onto the train, what power could there possibly be? [WHY ARE ADULTS SO WEIRD?!]

[Eva offers a tired smile.]

Popularity? Ego? A wy to dictate how things are run amongst ourselves. I don't know.

But... it can't be popularity. Everyone has been very unkind to Mr. Stark. So it's certainly not that. [Alice feels rather terrible her two questions caused... all this.]

People can be unkind about something but still generally like or respect a person. I don't always see eye to eye with him, yet he does have my respect as a person.

.... [That... THAT DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE?! Alice can only blink a bit owlishly before her brows knit together in thought.] Then... why... be unkind?

That's just how people are. We try to be kind to everyone, but it doesn't always work that way. More so when tempers flare or people start to argue.

But, I think, if you do your best to be kind and respectful and listen to people, then things end up a lot smoother in the long run.

[Alice thinks that's a terrible excuse but doesn't argue with it. She wouldn't even know how to defend against such a comment.

At least the second statement is something that actually does make sense.]

Are you all doing your best then? [She doesn't mean for the question to sound tactless, to her, it doesn't sound that way, she simply wishes to know.]

I'd like to think we are, yes. I know I am.

[Despite the ugly, ugly cultural prejudices at the back of her mind these days when it comes to Tony, but that's not something to get into, if ever.]

Well, then... I shall try my best too, miss. I'm sorry to have caused so much trouble.

It means... secretive. Behind closed doors.

[Alice was about to ask weren't all meetings were behind closed doors so as to not let in a draft, or worse, mosquitos? But the first answer led her to believe these were different kinds of closed doors. Locked kind of doors, of sorts.]

Why would anyone want the meeting be a secret?

Lots of answers to that. [ Speaking from experience... ] Sometimes it's because the people in the meeting don't know any more than the rest of 'em, and don't want them to know it.

Then why have a meeting at all beyond "we don't know what's going on?" I should think it would be a very short meeting.

Because if people talk, they can figure it out.

Shouldn't there be as many people as possible, then, so that everyone can offer an idea of what it might be... whatever "it" is?

I... do see that, I didn't wish to start an argument.

Don't worry too much about it. Better to get it all out in the open, know where everyone stands.
