Backdated Fiddlesticks 1- Late/ Video

[Prompto's image appears on the network with a worried expression on his face. He's already in his pjs (tank top and chocobo yellow pj bottoms) and he's pretty sure Iggy's already in bed but.. there's a very big and important 'something' missing from his room.]

Hey uh.. sorry for bugging everyone but uh..

[He glances back at his room uncertain.]

Has anyone seen Gladio? Buddy? If you're around will you just.. I don't know, shout 'Marco' or something for me? If you need alone time or whatever, that's cool. I won't come bother you but.. just..

[What if Gladio really was needing some alone time and he was being stupid about this? He didn't want to be harassing the poor guy.]

[When she said 'game', he went dashing off screen. The ICP feed continued to film the very exciting wall in his room.

Running along, he wondered if he should get anything for the cat and for Madoka. That seemed like a great idea! So he hurried faster so he could go through the game room and out the other side before she got there.

He looked around the kitchen and snatched two forks and the last third of a pie or tart or something someone had left on the counter. He didn't know what kind of berries this was but it was pie. That had to be good, right?

He was out of breath by the time he came bounding into the game room again. He spotted the cat and only then wondered if maybe a cat wouldn't eat pie.]

Milk! I should've gotten milk! Here I'll be right back!

[Off he ran again to get three glasses of milk.]

[ ...

Well.

This is.. something. Madoka is just calmly sitting in the game room, having placed the cat on her lap. It's still very much soundly asleep, although its breathing still sounds a little weak.. Hence why most of Madoka's attention is just on said cat as she's fussing over it, gently pulling a hand across its fur.

It's only the footsteps rushing back that make her look up, spotting Prompto...

.. only to see him run away again? Madoka blinks in surprise. ]

Uncle Prompto sure is energetic today, huh.. [ She says to no one in particular as she waits for him to return. ]

[When he came back, he was out of breath. He came over and set the snacks on the coffee table.]

Aww, he's all tuckered out. I wonder where he's from. Does he belong to someone or do you think he just got caught in whatever keeps kidnapping people from their homes?

[Because clearly it wouldn't mean to kidnap a cat, right?]

[ Considering how out of breath he is, Madoka quickly - and almost kind of fussily, don't make her mom you, Prompto! - motions for him to come sit down and catch his breath again.

The question makes her gaze slide over to the cat again though. ]

I don't think he belongs to someone.. [ Although she doesn't sound entirely sure of that, judging by her tone. ] It was like no one even noticed him on the platform before I picked him up. He must have been taken here by the train like the rest of us.. But why would the train take such a poor weakened kitty?

[He leans in closer to take a better look at the kitty. He frowns with worry when he hears the kitten didn't belong to anyone.

He very gently rubs his index finger on the top of the cat's head.]

What can I do to help? Maybe just being brought here like he was took a lot out of him.

I'm not sure.. I think the best thing for now is to just let him rest like this. Maybe he'll start feeling better over time...

[ Or, you know, until Madoka accidentally contracts with him later tonight, but ssh. She has no idea just yet.

Her worried gaze moves up from the cat towards Prompto. ]

.. just like you, uncle Prompto.

[ Sure, he may be all energetic now, but don't think Madoka has forgotten why they're here together in the first place! She remembers how worried Prompto seemed, making that post to call out to Gladio. ]

Yeah maybe. Poor guy.

[He was so focused on the kitty that her comment about himself threw him off guard.]

Wha- oh..

[The reminder of the emotional hurt he'd been trying to ignore with the cat brought it all right back. It made his eyes sting again.]

I don't know. I don't know if I could feel better about Gladio not being here. He's just.. he's always been there. If he's around, like, I just know we're going to be okay. No matter what. Know anyone like that?

[ She slowly nods. ]

I understand. I also think that mister Gladio seems like that type of person. [ He always made her feel like things were going to be okay, after all. Even when she talked to him about difficult things.

So yesm, she does know the type. Her dad is a little like that too, she thinks, but as she's mulling it over, a different thought comes to mind. ]

Don't worry though.. [ There's the slightest shy hesitation, but then Madoka leans over - carefully though, so as to not disturb the kitty - to plant a small kiss on Prompto's cheek before pulling back again. ] I--I'm sure it'll all be okay. One way or another. And.. you know, I'll try my best and work really hard so I can become a person who can help give you that feeling too, even though I still have a long way to go.

Yeah, he's going to be a great uncle to you.

[He wanted the title of best uncle, but he was pretty sure Gladio already had it. How couldn't he? He was amazing! He was so kind and brave and strong and gentle and by the six, soooo sexy, and..

The kiss caught him by surprise. As he looked at her with a shocked smile, his eyes welled up again.]

Madoka! You're the kindest person I've ever met! You don't have to do anything to become someone special. You already are.

[ Don't worry, Prompto. Gladio is rejecting the uncle title, so that means you can still be the best uncle! You've still made it!

Just don't think too much about how sexy your boyfriend is around the 14 year old. ]

I'm not so sure about that.. [ But rather than full out rejecting his compliment, she just leaves it there with a small, near-awkward laugh. This isn't about her, it's about her poor uncle Prompto's pain! And how much she wants to make it better. ] I'm just doing the best I can. And right now, um.. I hope to do my best to cheer you up! Not that you can't be sad if you have to be, but..

[ Her voice trails off. She idly strokes the cat's fur very lightly as she thinks of how to word this right. It's hard. ]

Your smile is always so nice. It makes me want to smile too just seeing it. So it'd be nice if you could feel like smiling again, even though things are hard.

[Hey! He caught himself. That makes up for it, right?

He leaned in and pressed a quick kiss to her forehead. He would've hugged her but there was a kitty in the way, so this would have to do.]

You are cheering me up. Thanks. I'm really glad you're my niece. Do you want me to walk you back to your room?

Do you want to, uncle Prompto?

[ She's leaving that up to him, he's the one who needs help right now! Madoka is a big girl, she's not scared of walking back to her room by herself.. (Mostly since there's not been any murder committed yet, sssh.) But if it'll cheer Prompto up more to still have a slight distraction like that, she'll gladly let him anyway. ]

[He hesitated to answer and in doing that the composure he'd found started to fray.]

I don't know what I want. You're my niece, I should be taking care of you. I just.. I don't know. I'm not the one who makes decisions usually.

[ She gives him a smile at that, but.. it's a soft one. Sympathetic. It's easy to see how much he's hurting right now. ]

It's okay. I'm fine right now. [ So no need to take care of her! There's nothing much special going on, other than her taking care of this poor kitty. And sure, she's sad too that Gladio is gone, but.. he has to come back. Her papa came back before too. She's choosing to just believe in that. ] It's alright if sometimes you are the one who has to be taken care of.

[ Madoka slowly stands up, picking up the kitty and careful shifting him so she can hold him with one arm while he's still sleeping. She uses the other one to reach for Prompto's hand, looking more mature and confident than usually. ]

.. Come on, you can walk me back. It's better if you're not alone right now, right?

You think so?

[It made him feel a little better to be reassured he could accept the help right now without feeling bad about it. Besides, what was family for?

He was relieved by how in charge she was suddenly acting and followed after her.]

Want me to carry your kitty for you? O- or I could um.. I don't know.

[He wanted to do something to help, but they were just walking, so was there really anything else involved than just walking?]

Well..

[ For a moment she seems a little hesitant. Maybe it's since the kitty is so weak, or maybe since she's only found it just today, but she's kind of wary of handing it over to anyone else.. even someone she trusts as much as Prompto. Madoka is just so worried about the cat getting even more hurt..

But then again, she's also worried about Prompto getting hurt. And if the cat can cheer him up a little, then.. why not?

She untangled her hand from Prompto's, and then moves to guide his arms up into a good position to hold the small kitty. It's then that she gently puts the sleeping bundle of fur into Prompto's arms. ]

.. There. He's so cute, isn't he..? [ Hopefully his cuteness will soothe Prompto some! ]

Yeah, he really is!

[He had his arms exactly how he was told and held the kitten with utmost care. He was taking this so seriously! He wouldn't dare hurt the cat for a myriad of reasons but the two biggest were to not harm Madoka's trust in him and well, it was a cute, injured kitty.

Slowly his smile was coming back as he simply looked at the little furball and with a very light touch of one finger, pet its tiny head. Making a cooing noise, he gingerly took her hand again.]

Okay, let's get you to bed.

[Although how he was going to leave when such a cute kitty was around, he wasn't sure.]

[ Thankfully it seems like her trust in Prompto isn't misplaced. He does seem to be gentle enough with the cat that she doesn't have to worry too much.. Although Madoka still can't help but at least worry a little, considering the state her poor kitty is in.

She lets him take her hand, giving him a small smile. ]

Okay.

[ It's not like her own room is very far away from here. She knows they'll be there soon, so-- ]

When I'm in bed, you should go to bed and sleep too, uncle Prompto. Sometimes it's good to.. um.. [ Her voice trails off as she thinks of how to put it. ] You know.. just.. turn your brain off for a while. If there's a lot going on. And sleep is important!

[He considered her suggestion and nodded in agreement. He knew going to bed was the smart thing to do. It was hard, but Noct would be there.]

Anyone ever tell you how smart you are?

[He smiled at her. It was impressive how kind and capable she was. Someday he wanted to grow up and be like her.]

This little fellow is lucky to have you. You were probably the best person for him to find.

[ Madoka isn't so sure if she's the best person to have found him.. But she does know that regardless of that, she is the person who found him. So she just thinks she has to make the best of it.

But not wanting to dismiss his compliment, she instead squeezes his hand she's holding a little bit. ]

Thank you. [ She smiles, and then jokes to keep a bit of levity in this conversation for Prompto's sake: ] I got that from my dad, you know. [ The smart thing, not the being good at taking care of cats thing since Tony is too tsun when it comes to cats..

She has to stop walking after she says that though, considering they're in front of the door to her room now. So Madoka pulls her ticket out in order to open the door. ]

[Prompto nodded.]

Yeah and Iggy! He's the smartest person I know. I don't know Mr. Stark too well, but between those two you have like a mental powerhouse going on. It's a wonder they haven't fixed everything about this place already.

[Something just had to be holding Iggy back from whipping everyone into shape. He could hear his stern voice whenever Noct and Prompto got out of hand.

He looked at the door and then back at her.]

Did.. uh.. did you want me to tuck you in? I don't really know how this uncle thing is supposed to go. I don't have one.

[ She looks up at him. ]

Do you want to?

[ That's the most important question here, after all. Madoka isn't sure if he wants to or not if she's just going by that wording, and she wouldn't want to force Prompto into anything..

.. but then she does remember him saying he's no good at having to decide things. So she squeezes his hand and adds: ] I wouldn't mind it.

Umm..

[Was he allowed to say yes? He didn't really know the rules here. He might need to go have a talk with Gladio about what an uncle was supposed to do. Technically if they ever went home and remembered all this, he'd kind of be an uncle-ish-person to Iris, wouldn't he? Huh. He'd never thought about that before.

His attention was drawn back to her when she squeezed his hand. Her comment brought a smile to his face again.]

Yeah? Cool! I'll definitely do it then. Are you on the top bunk or bottom? Do you need anything besides your kitty to sleep?

[ If this was anyone else, Madoka might have pouted just the tiniest bit and said that it's not like she's a little kid anymore who needs something else to sleep.

But Prompto's enthusiasm and smile is endearing, not to mention good to see under the current circumstances. So Madoka just smiles right back at him. ]

I'm on the bottom there.

[ She points at the bunk before walking over to sit down on it. ]

And I don't need anything else. Just.. um, please put him down gently.. here, he can have part of the pillow.

[Hey, he liked having his bear, Cindy, and his even bigger bear, Gladio, with him when he slept! He didn't know.

He followed her instructions and placed the kitty on the pillow like he was as delicate as a snowflake.]

Bye little buddy. You're in good hands with my niece. Hope you feel better soon.

[He turned his attention back to Madoka. When she got in bed, he helped tuck her in. With a smile, he said good night and went back to his room feeling like maybe he could survive this loss after all.]
