I have a question, for those who actually remember their childhoods.

[Joss opens his mouth, revealing an empty gap where one of his upper canines used to be. He holds the tooth—which used to be a fang, before his resurrection—up to the camera.]

This came out about five minutes ago. How long does it usually take for adult teeth to grow back in?

In response to his other comment, though, Joss digs around until he finds his stolen money bag, which clinks gently as he holds it up to the camera.]

I’ve already got more than a dollar. I seems that when one orders a person to evacuate the city, they tend to bring their valuables with them.

H-how did you-why do you have all that?

Depending on when you can start introducing more solid and nutritious foods, that can affect the timeline. The more nutrition you're getting, the faster they'll grow. I take it you don't recall having lost a tooth before?

It’s been nearly seven hundred years. The details do get fuzzy after a while.

I can only imagine. It must be an odd feeling to be growing up now at long last.

I suppose this does mean I’m growing up. What a strange idea. I’ve been this shape and this size for more than half a millennium; the thought does take some getting used to.

Just as long as I’m not gap-toothed for months.

I already have adult teeth; I just haven’t got a full set yet. I suppose I lost my last tooth some months before my mortal death seven centuries ago.

[Later, Tony recruits a roommate to slip a milk chocolate bar under Joss' pillow while he's sleeping.]

I'm an Elf, so I don't know if our teeth are at all comparable. Elves do have primary and secondary teeth, and our primary ones fall out when we're the equivalent of say, a mortal child who is five, six, or seven years of age. But the years are different. It probably takes us a lot longer to get each secondary tooth in.

[ He takes a close look at the fang Joss is holding up. ]

Maybe. . . a few months, for you? That's just a guess.

A few months used to feel like a small moment. Now it feels like an eternity. Odd how things change once one becomes acquainted with one’s own mortality.

That I can relate to. I'm of the Elven race, and we live a very, very long time. We're theoretically immortal, but not actually. When I died in my own world, I wandered as a disembodied spirit. Time was very different for me than it had been when I was alive. Every moment was an eternity, and every moment was flooded with memories and rich with sensory experiences. It was sorrowful because I had lost my life, but joyful because I was so attuned to what was around me, the earth, the sky, the forest, the rivers, the mountains.

Is it anything like that for you? Of course, we're on a Void train, not in the natural world. Did anything besides time change for you when you became acquainted with your own mortality?

I have... just realized that I do not know what was done about my teeth while I was asleep.

That is...rather alarming. What do you mean, asleep?

I was kept in a sort of stasis for considerable lengths of time, until I was finally needed. Obviously my body was kept quite fit...

That is rather disturbing. What were you needed for?
