[ This is the morning of Day 5 of the month of Domino. Curufin is in his cabin, having just awakened from an extremely vivid dream -- by falling out of his bunk and landing on the floor with a THUNK! Sorry about the racket, roomies! He climbs to his feet, and since he slept in his clothes, getting dressed is simple. He pulls on his boots, throws on his jacket, and goes to the ICP. ]
Good morning, all. Hate to bother you, but I've just had yet another prophetic dream.
I thought I was trapped inside a block of ice. Ice walls, ice floor, ice ceiling. I was freezing, and it was hard to start walking through this frozen passageway, but I did. The ice was so clear and transparent that at times it almost seemed. . . not there at all.
I spotted what I assumed was a gap or an exit up ahead, and I stepped towards it. But suddenly the world shook under my feet and the block shuddered and lurched, and I was thrown off my feet and crashed into the walls. It felt like the structure was tumbling, with me in it! The cold struck through my bones like knives every time I hit the ice.
I don't know what this means, but the dreams I had before the last two missions were true visions. I dreamed of goblins and flying wolves and a burning city, and that's what we found. The next time, I dreamed of a volcanic planet that was self-destructing, and that's exactly where we went.
So, I must believe we're going to a very wintery place this time.
I suggest to everybody, get your cold-weather gear together! [ His shoulders shake briefly with silent laughter. ] And bring a flask of vodka or whisky if you can.

[ There's no way an experience with so much ice could happen in a hot place, after all. And Inigo doesn't exactly know much about the concept of fridges yet.. ]
Perhaps the train thought that if we liked the snow so much, it should give us more.

I suppose it would be possible.. Most of the decisions made by this train or whoever is controlling it seem rather random. [ Like who it drags in. And when. And what team they're on. ] If it isn't thinking about our wellbeing by taking us here, then why would it consider the wellbeing of those in need?

Good point. It doesn't seem too concerned about taking people along who haven't consented to the journey. And yet it takes care to provide us with what we need to sustain life and it pays some attention to our recreational needs. I agree, all its decisions regarding the passengers seem rather random.
And maybe sending us to a wintery planet has nothing to do with the fact that we enjoyed the wintery garden car? Maybe it has to do with the train's realizing that we are capable of managing in the snow and ice and might have a chance of not dying in that cold environment.

But honestly, Inigo would prefer not lingering much on this topic in general. It's kind of sad and cynical, and he doesn't like those things. Even if it's hard to find a positive in the middle of all of this - but he's determined to find it anyway, dangit! ]
I have to thank you though. It's thanks to dreams like yours that we can be adequately prepared. I'd hate to think of all of us having landed there without warm clothes.

[ He doesn't exactly like this kind of thinking either, though he does have a fair amount of cynicism in his personality, due to past experiences. He'll go along with Inigo's attempt to find a positive. ]
No need to thank me, but you're welcome! I wouldn't want to have less time to prepare than we will now that we know.
no subject
Will you be alright out there? I know we all have the opportunity to dress up warmly now, but if you're unused to the cold then it could still be tough. [ And Inigo has no idea what the weather or temperature was like where the other comes from. ]
no subject
I'll be all right. I lived in northern regions all my life, in my own world. In the last country I lived in, it seemed always to be either raining or snowing, or both! We only had two months of summer in East Beleriand. The rest was winter.
What about you, Inigo? Will you be all right?

The question just makes him laugh though, but in a hearty way rather than a laughing-at-someone kind of way. He even winks. Dramatically. ]
Of course I will be! There has yet to be something that could take down the mighty Inigo, after all!
no subject
The mighty Inigo! Unconquered and unconquerable! Neither snow, nor ice, nor lack of a convenient coffee shop shall daunt you. [ He isn't laughing at Inigo either, just joking about the realities of dealing with a cold climate and an otherwise unknown environment. ]
no subject
Trust me, when one of your friends is a dragon who's threatened to eat you, it's fairly hard to be daunted by anything else after that.
no subject
I can believe that! But your friend threatened to eat you? What was the occasion for that?
no subject
But he can't think of a convincing lie either, so. Welp. ]
Well, she was lecturing me about something [ LET'S LEAVE OUT WHAT IT WAS ABOUT.. ] and since I wanted to get out of the situation, I told her she was too young and small to concern herself with such things.
Let me give you some advice-- never say that to someone who can turn into a big dragon. It was a terrible idea.
no subject
Thanks, I'll take your advice to heart. [ Grin.]

That was exactly the day I learned that about them. [ Or well, about manaketes, but they are close enough to dragons that his description works well enough.. ] Their tempers are quite.. explosive.
no subject
I'll agree with your description, from my experience. So what happened, did your dragon friend explode at you? Help! Get the fire extinguisher! [ Chuckle. ]
no subject
He's rather glad though that rather than making fun of him, Curufin just sees to find the uplifting side of the situation. It's exactly what Inigo tries to do for other people, and he smiles. ]
Of course I valiantly escaped with my life! [ He manages to make it sound like some great heroic deed, but then he does add honestly: ] I just outran her, really. And we're friends, so it's not as if she could stay mad at me forever.
no subject
That is exactly what Curufin is trying to do. To use a joking manner to focus on the uplifting side of the situation. He probably recognizes that Inigo does the same and so will understand that kind of humor and feel affirmed. ]
[ Curufin chuckles. ] As the saying goes, sometimes discretion is the better part of valor! Having a pair of strong, swift legs is often as good as having a sword. Besides, if the dragon is your friend, then being left FAR BEHIND would give her a chance to cool off. [ Literally. ]
