[Video] Rabbit Day 3... with Rabbits
[WangJi was in greenhouse carriage as usual. It was usually his place for making any sort of posts on the train as he enjoyed it there. This time, there actually was a reason... because he had two rabbits and it was the month of rabbit.
You know... appropriate.
So Little Carrot was sitting inside his robes with his tiny head sticking out, nose wiggling as WangJi spoke]
Good day. I wanted to inform those on the train with a musical inclination that I have ordered a guqin so that others may try and play it.
[He adjusted the video to show the very long zither instrument sitting on the ground near him. It definitely wasn't his own. The colors were different and it didn't have any of the markings showing it belonged to a Gusu Lan disciple.
There was also Little Radish the white rabbit next to it, sniffing it and trying to figure out what it was]
If anyone would like to learn more about it, feel free to ask. This one, I will leave in the music carriage.

Action
It is good to see you again.

The teen shook his head. His spiritual companion, truly did love other animals. ]
It's-- good to see you to. Thanks... for having me.
[ He sounded a little strained, but nothing out of the usual. He wanted to learn, thus he'd have to get better at talking to some adults. ]
no subject
Of course. Please sit.
[He gestured to a spot near him... and then cleared the white rabbit off the guqin, settling him next to him on the ground]
no subject
Jin Ling shook his head. It was the same with Hui. Fairy was immediately friendly with Sizhui's not so small cat now. He turned his attention to Lan Wangji and nodded his head, before slowly moving over to the spot near him, and picked up Little Radish when he was cleared from the guqin, next to Lan Wangji. ]
They haven't changed-- the rabbits.
[ He pets Little Radish in his arms for a moment, before setting the small creature back next to Lan Wangji. He needs to focus, so he can learn properly. He was a model student in the past, and he has no intention of changing the behavior. ]
no subject
Little Radish was fine with being picked up, settling into Jin Ling's arms. This was a good place too. Little Carrot could play Fairy]
Yes, they are. Very much so. I knew that Little Carrot would be first to go meet Fairy.
[He moved the guqin to his lap and began the lesson, first coaching Jin Ling in how his hands would be positioned]
no subject
Jin Ling really liked how Little Radish felt when he petted and settled in his arms for a moment. Jin Ling wanted to keep petting and playing with Little Radish, but he knew he was here for actual lessons, so he had dropped the small rabbit by their side instead. At least, until he got a break or something. ]
Little Carrot, seems very-- brave.
[ He replied, shaking his head. He read the books that Lan Wangji recommended to him not too long ago. He hoped they'd help him with this process. Though, this seemed to be more on positioning. Jin Ling tried to imitate the action with his hands, while watching. ]
no subject
Yes, he is brave.
[Or foolish. But WangJi wouldn't say that last part.
Little Radish was a good rabbit for companion while playing, just settling in next to Jin Ling, waiting until he either needed to be moved or was picked up again. He was very patient like that.
The hand positioning was important. Even though he had given him the book, there was only so much just a book could do. Finally, after showing the positions, he offered Jin Ling the guqin]
So you can get used to playing it.
[Even if he didn't play a song yet, it was still good practice]
no subject
No kidding.
[ Strangely enough, Fairy keeps meeting very active animal companions. Jin Ling might even scoff that that if he Lan Wangji says it aloud. Foolish, indeed. Especially, for such a small fellow.
The teen can tell that the two rabbits have very contrasting personalities, just from watching. Little Radish seems to be rather calm and patient. He doesn't seem to be causing any trouble. A last pet on his head, and Jin ling focuses on his lessons. He doesn't want to waste Lan Wangji's time.
At least, not after all the interest he'd pour into this. The book is helpful, but definitely very different from what he was expecting. Jin Ling stared at the instrument for a moment, before carefully putting one of his fingers on its string, and plucked it in the way he recalled from reading the book and the positioning that he watched form Lan Wangji. ]
Like-- this?
no subject
WangJi watched as Jin Ling took up holding the guqin so that he could practice playing it. He watched quietly as Jin Ling plucked the string and played his first note]
Yes, that is a good start. Your hand positioning is good.
no subject
He attempted a few more notes carefully with his fingers. For someone who always did sword practice and archery, this was definitely a challenge. He feels a little more confident after the assurance from Lan Wangji. ]
T-Thank you.
[ He feels a little bashful for the assurance but at the same time plucking and hand placement were just the simpler parts of playing this instrument. He knows there's a long way to go. ]
no subject
Of course. Hand position is important in playing the guqin. If you don't have proper hand positioning, it will be harder later.
Let's start with something easy to begin with. With your hands at the closest hui [The dots along the side of the guqin to help with hand positioning for different notes] Practice playing the different notes.
[It would help get his hand used to moving on the strings]
no subject
That-- makes sense.
[ He nodded his head. He watched his hand again, trying to remember the positions. He would need to remember this feeling when he was attempting to practice on his own later. The idea is simple, but executing, he still feels a whole lot more confused with it. ]
Okay, closest to... hui.
[ He repeats, looking around the guqin for a moment, trying to make sense of them. He does his best to p;uck at what looks closes to hui, while giving Lan Wangji a look, before plucking a few more. The sound isn't awful but it isn't was pleasant as the way a professional sounds. ]
no subject
WangJi watched, his face still carefully neutral. After Jin Ling played, WangJi would retrieve his own qugin from where it was settled nearby, setting it across his lap. Easier to see how he was holding his hands]
The hui are the dots along the side. They are there to help with where to hold your hands. There are 13 of them.
no subject
Fairy saw Little Radish, and turned her head happily over to greet the more cautious of the two, following a few soft barks of hello!
Jin Ling was trying his hardest to keep his placement and sort of read what he could see. However, it's definitely a lot more challenging than it looked. He felt like he needed some instruction at some point. Thankfully, Lan Wangji was there to assist him. ]
Oh--I see. There's-- 13? Where would I start?
[ He replied looking at the dots. ]
no subject
Little Radish didn't startle luckily, sitting up on his hind legs to look at Fairy closer. Well, since Little Carrot thought this big animal was okay.
WangJi glanced over at the barks to see what the animals were up to. At least they seemed to be getting along]
Yes. Let's start with one. Hold you hand here. [He showed him] And play a note. Then move it to a different hui so you can hear how the tone changes.
no subject
Little Radish might get a little lick on the nose from the spiritual dog as he's on his hind legs. She even lowers herself to help make things a little better. They're certainly up to their own shenanigans. Fairy knows better than to cause any harm to his rabbits. She's happy to have playmates, even if they're a little small. ]
Like-- this?
[ Jin Ling replied, holding out his hand while watching Lan Wangji, focused. ]
Okay.
[ He tapped one hui, then moved to another. He could easily hear the difference in sound. He attempted to be a little more adventurous and strummed a third one. ]
no subject
Little Radish was certainly surprised when he suddenly got a nose lick, but he didn't run off, sitting up more to look at Fairy. When she laid down, he would also try to get on her back, bolstered by the fact his brother was there.
WangJi nodded his head once]
You can hear how the tone is changing?
no subject
Jin Ling plucked another one gently upon hearing those words. It didn't take long for his sensitive hearing to pick it up. He nodded his head ]
Yes. It sounds different from this hui to this one.
[ He mused gesturing as he waited for instructions. ]
Sorry, was on hiatus. Feel free to continue or drop thread as you wish.
WangJi would keep an eye on them as well, secretly amused by the sight of it]
Yes, it is. Each of the hui will give you different tone as you play them so you can play many different ranges.
nw! welcome back! will drop the other one since it is older! I am okay backtagging this one! :D
Maybe they'll both get a happy bark from her. Other than that, she lets them do their thing. Jin Ling shakes his head when he glances over. His spiritual dog is indeed more social than he'll ever be. ]
So if-- if I pluck them like this-- oh!
[ He tries to pluck a few more and the sounds definitely are different. ]
You're right the ranges are different.
Sounds good to me
This... this was very cute. WangJi was glad that his rabbits were enjoying themselves so it was all good.
WangJi watched quietly as Jin Ling experimented with it and once he had discovered it for himself, he nodded]
The guqin is versatile. It is why it is good for qin language.
[There were a lot of potential tones that guqin could make]
/o/ ty
Jin Ling can't help but feel the same. Fairy is just-- very cute. Especially, when she's chaperoning the small rabbits on her back and doesn't seem to be bothered by anything else. He's going to have to keep his concentration though, if he doesn't want to be distracted and mess up.
He will try his hardest at least. ]
Qin language feels and looks vert complicated. How do you even manage to do it so-- effortlessly?
[ He's seen Lan Wangji play. The sound is pleasant to the ears and its properties are beyond what he's seen in many cultivators. Sure, he's seen other disciples of Gusu Lan use the same language, but there was something ethereal about Lan Wangji. He hates to admit it, but he does find the man quite-- amazing, despite his awkwardness. ]

It has taken a lot of studying. It is not something that we expect our juniors to be able to understand overnight. Lan Sizhui is well-studied in it as well, but others may not be so confident.
[He would appreciate that admiration if he knew. Not that he went out to seek it, but knowing that WuXian's sect nephew thought that would be nice]
no subject
There's a lot to understand. I still-- don't really get it. Sizhui...makes it look effortless.
[ Admittedly, Sizhui is really talented. Jin Ling can't deny that. Though, he's pretty confident in himself on-- other things that isn't learning how to play music. He's trying at least. Jin Ling really does find Lan Wangji intimidating for various reasons. The fact that he's really amazing is one of them and one day he might have enough confidence to say that aloud. ]

[WangJi is very into practicing. Even he is still practicing. He wouldn't say that he has perfected it yet even others might think he has]
