poi 16, library; video
Hey guys! [ As soon as the video feed cuts in, so does Tidus's voice, a smile and a hand raised to the screen. He's by one of the tables, breaking the 'be quiet' rule of all library spaces for a good reason - the reason which is spread out on a table, showing a selection of bottles, equipment, and even plants - one of which glows a soft gold. ]
Welcome to the newbies! I wanted to talk some about the healing we've got for people to take when they need it - plus, there's some making I was thinking some of you might be interested in - these!
[ He's grabbing a small pouch, removing the contents, and bringing a view of small green sweets sitting on his palm. ]
They're candies made from the plants we've got here. [ He nods back, and still in view is the golden plant, as well as less glowy variant. ] We've got a bunch growing, and they can be made into salves too - they're from Roland's world, and he got a book that tells you how to make them! But-
[ But- Tidus chuckles. ]
Well I've never made them before, and Roland hasn't either! Sooo... I was figuring we've got enough people here who're good at making with herbs and in the kitchen - how about we figure it out? Give people more options for healing. Then we don't have to pay for 'em. [ Heheh! ]
There's plenty of the plants in the greenhouse if you wanna try on your own - thanks, Persephone! - and the book on them's in the library. I'm gonna put some of these [ he holds the sweets back up, while also putting them back in the bag ] into the supply locker, so you can check them out. Try making them whenever you want!
[ He can't figure out the tie right now, or it's just a little too distracting. But Tidus is quiet, before he looks up from the pouch to the screen, and then to the side. His tone shifts. ]
And... if you ever worry about taking supplies when other people need them, don't, okay? Carry them with you. If you need to know how they work or just wanna ask about them, you can. And you can ask people to buy what works where you're from too. A bunch of the potions we have - they saved me more times than I can count back home. And I know Trunks swears by senzu beans.
So - yeah. [ He pulls a smile, small as it's turned. ] Drop by the library if you want! I've got an alphabet to count 'til it sticks.
[ Heh. ]

"I knew someone who attempted what I thought was an 'uncomplicated' recipe," Wangji muses, coming to stand next to Tidus and trying to look unimposing. "It was meant to take half a shichen, but it took one and a half. I'm still at a loss as to how." He does smile at the mention of his son, he needs to actually talk to him sometime.
At the mention of the talismans, Wangji pauses and makes a face of deep thought. (Aka, he furrowed his brow visibly and his eyes drift into the distance.)
"In theory... They could be used by anyone who has spiritual energy. They seem to work with the 'magic' of other worlds, so it may just be anyone with an ability to manipulate internal energy." He's going to have to ponder this.
"I have some talisman paper left but if we were to provide enough for the train I would need more supplies, almost any medium will work however. You simply need to know what to write and infuse it with energy. I have seen them used on cloth with thread for a permanent effect, painted onto walls and much more. The talisman paper is just light weight enough to carry a large amount or can be thrown easily."

And he'll ponder what Wangji tells him, humming in thought.
"Well, if it's a special paper, I don't mind buying more or getting in that special ink." He'll call it special, just because he isn't sure what else to call the particular one that Wuxian told him to get - it's been a while.
"But I don't suppose any of the stuff in the new art carriage would be handy?"
Probably not.
no subject
"Am I detracting from your studies?" He asks, gesturing to the book in Tidus's hand. He can't quite read the title from here.
He smiles a little at Tidus's generosity, "It is best on the special paper, for ease of use. However, as I said, almost anything will make do in a pinch. Some of the art supplies may yet suffice, I may have to ask Madoka what we have." He thinks it over, eyes wandering as he does.
"In terms of ink, the point of the medium is it's ability to transfer the energy. Typically it is cinnabar based ink, but I have seen blood as a medium too. I would not recommended it for large talisman creation, unless you wish to be too dizzy to cast them." Yes, this is what constitutes a Lan Wangji joke.
"The best person to ask if you wish to investigate ad-hoc talismans is Wei Ying. I am most skilled in utilizing traditional methods."
no subject
"Nah, it's cool. Let's talk." He makes the notebook disappear, in the same gold colouring he had made the weapons appear during the mission. Relaxes, as he listens to Wangji.
The joke definitely gets a raised brow.
"Yeah, let's hold off on the blood writing."
Please! Some people would, but Tidus will skip that.
"But that's it -- cinnabar. Wuxian - Wei Ying? Uh." Hold on, there's a memory coming to him. "--Is it okay for me to call him that? He said a name for you once... and teased me when I used it."
Then again, Wuxian teases Tidus about everything.
"Is that a personal nickname?"
no subject
"Is that an innate skill or one of your many bracelet abilities?" He asks, wondering if they function like the pouches back home.
He listens to Tidus's questions, nodding along and huffing a slightly sharper breath than normal (his equivalent of a breathy laugh) at the mention of Wei Ying teasing him.
"I suppose that would get a little confusing. For people from my time, there is large degree of formality and this is reflected in the way you address a person. You have the name you are born with, called a personal name; mine is Lan Zhan. Then when you reach maturity, about sixteen years of age, you get a courtesy name; Lan Wangji - which everyone uses to refer to you from then on. If you are very skilled or do something impressive, you will get a title that reflects that. I earned mine after a war; Hánguāng-jūn meaning 'Light-bearing Lord'."
This is a lot to take in and Wangji knows that, so he looks a little apologetic.
"So I am: Hánguāng-jūn, Lan Zhan - Courtesy name Wangji. As to whether you may call Wei Ying 'Wei Ying', it depends on how close you are."
no subject
Just imagine that! Endless storage for life! Now why couldn't he get that as a Diagad power?
But he'd asked a question, and Wangji answers, the tradition....new to Tidus, nothing he's heard of - especially not the title, but he wonders if he's understanding that right, holds the question on the tip of his tongue.
"Okay, so it's like a private name. Alright." Okay, at least he's got the basics down. "So it's not weird if I call him Wei Wuxian in front of you. That's what I couldn't figure out." And he doesn't mind calling the guy that, than his more personal name; he isn't going to assume anything about their relationship, or figure himself intimately close to the point of using it.
"Do people call you Hánguāng-jūn-" he's likely mispronouncing that "-to your face?"
no subject
"I often wondered how normal people managed without the cultivation pouches we have that provide the same effect." He agrees, preparing for missions would be so much easier and he wouldn't have to worry about weight at all!
"The name you had at birth is a private name," Wangji nods, pleased he's managing to explain this to someone who has never had to deal with it. "So it is used primarily by your family or very close friends." When Tidus has finished he makes that shaky hand gesture that translates to 'sort-of', "How you refer to someone when they aren't there shows how you know them. So yes, it's not weird. I have a habit of calling him 'Wei Ying' as we were important to one another."
Tidus's slight mangling of his title makes him raise his eyebrows but it's not important; it's nice not to be called that everywhere he went anymore.
"They do call me Hánguāng-jūn if it is a formal occasion. Otherwise it's 'Mr Lan'. Traditionally we say our first-names last in china, so I had several people I didn't know call me 'Mr Wangji'. I am not sure which I hate more."
