i'm putting the novels here and you can't stop me
orchestra 14; voice to text
[ There's a click of sound, something close to a sigh, but too short. ]
What's going on with everyone who's left? Is it them or some part of them lost out there? I...
[ It takes a moment - for him to speak again, to not get dragged down by that thought. He's been thinking about it all day, angry, confused. Not even really sure what he wanted to achieve - thought he could achieve - but saying he'd be doing this, but if it helps in some way...
That thought is all that's making him go through with it. Not turning off the console, going back to other things. ]
I'm gonna tell you what it's been like being here. Since the day I showed up; nowhere that I knew, no idea what was going on...
Can you imagine that? Everything you know; you're not in the void, you don't know where you are. Picture that, just - nothing. You don't know anything that's around you, but you've got this train you have to get on, and you know what a train is, or a voidcraft, but- okay, [ back up, back up, ] look, it's not a voidcraft. This thing you're on? It's a craft, you know that, but you don't know anything about it, and you're stuck to it and you don't get to ask it any questions. You can, but it's not gonna tell you anything.
I mean, you're a computer, right? Some kind of super computer but like Orisa, or Guri? You can look up stuff and you have some clue where you're going or a goal, [ or so it sounds like, ] but imagine not having any of that! But people tell you, there's something in the ride you're taking - something you can talk to, or, y'know - something that's listening. Someone. A little like you.
Okay, well, maybe it doesn't talk, you figure. Or maybe it doesn't really know what people are like. The people on board it's with, or -- [ orrrr? --aha! ] --A voidcraft like you! You can't connect to it because it doesn't know anything like that, it's not in its system.
But you're you, and you have ideas. You have your own sense of right and wrong; and everyone around you, you've got some idea about them. They're - [ Humans? Oh, wait-! ] --other voidcraft like you! And you don't always get their objectives or why they work the way they do, but you're similar too in ways. You don't always get along, but you know they run the way they do because that's the way they were made.
So you're all packed together in this thing and travelling somewhere you don't understand. Someone tells you what it's called, but what's a word supposed to mean if you can't figure out how any of it works? You've got a bigger problem anyway: apparently, this thing you're in's taking you to places. You've been given a team, a colour, whatever we wanna call this - you've been sorted, and you're gonna be taken to these worlds and ships or wherever, and you're gonna get a job. And you know if you sit back and do nothing, people are going to get hurt.
[ --does a voidcraft understand or feel anything if another voidcraft blew up right in front of it? ... he kinda wants to ask, but this isn't really a good time to ask things, so uh, let's take a moment, think about this. ]
I don't know what getting hurt means to you, but- you get angry. You're desperate about your crew. Imagine it kinda like that. You don't know the people in these places, they don't owe you anything, but losing people - you know that hurts. You can't just sit back and do nothing. That's what a lot of the people think here, that's why we do those missions. That's part of why we're with you, isn't it? Voidtreckers - because they'll do this job. Even if it's just to have some freedom or because they like to fight more than they care about people, it's better than being stuck inside this place where nothing looks right and you're staring at the same walls.
Out there, it'd be like seeing the void for you. Does that mean anything to you? It's a language that makes sense, something familiar turning on inside you. Space, fresh air, seeing the sky - a lot of us need that. None of it's home, but it's familiar. It's all we get sometimes to remember who we are.
[ The words come out, not really thought about - and it sounds stupid once he says it, something he should probably explain, but instead - he scoffs. ]
Ugh, I'm getting distracted. Anyway, these missions, these jobs we're been put into - I don't want you thinking about them like missions, like the missions you give. You know what missions are, what Voidtreckers are and that, but we don't. I mean, we know what saving people and fighting or helping and all that is, but we had our own stuff we were doing back in our worlds, right?
--Think about that. I'm telling you to look at it like you don't know anything that's going on, but in the meanwhile, you're still you: you still have a crew out there you want to find and save. None of that's changed. Everything that's happened to you, around you, that's still happened. But now you're not there; now you're here, you've been slotted into groups and you don't know why.
That's what it's like, being a Voidtrecker. At least, [ he continues after a beat, ] that's part of it. There's a lot more, but, I've talked a lot, and I want a break. So - get used to all of this. This is still the first day, so there's more coming.
Oh yeah, I'm not expecting responses or anything. There's still a lot I wanna say, and this isn't enough to get what it's like being on this side of the ride. Just, uhh... don't give me that auto-message you do for feedback? That's gonna be weird to see after I talk about myself forever. [ Please, some mercy. ]
Anyway, yeah, that's it for now. ... bye.
[ ENDING THESE THINGS IS ALWAYS WEIRD, so get a semi-huffy bye. ]

Oh. It's not a set of words Tidus was expecting; actually, he was aiming more for the "no words" side of a response. But.
...he guess it'll do. ]

[ A complaint and bunch of words that likely mean nothing to the train, but he's still saying them. He'll grumble if he wants to!! ]
Okay, so, where did I finish yesterday even? Talking about missions? I know I didn't get that far. Just talking about the first day? Mm- I was thinking about that first mission. Gyueran - first mission for me anyway.
I didn't mind it. It sounded scary and like we'd be thrown into a giant mess, and we really were, but I got used to fighting back in Spira.
--You know that's why I get mad about weapons though, right? [ right, that. ] Not just that mission. I only got a weapon 'cause a guy on the train could make us for them, so he made a copy of a sword I used back on Spira. But if it weren't for him, I wouldn't have anything!
And sure, you let us have weapons now, but you don't even see the problem of keeping them back, or why having nothing until you get points is a pain! You know you can be out there doing something, doing the job someone else even thinks you can do, but you don't have anything to do with it? And what if you're no good at of the jobs the other teams are doing? You want us to help people, but you don't give us anything to do that with?
It's like telling you to take us somewhere without a map! Sure, I can give you a map ... if you earn it. Also, if you don't get there soon, people are gonna die.
[ Does it make sense now? How can he be any clearer than that? He sits in the silence, not feeling entirely satisfied.
Ugh. ]
I don't know what's best. Weapons aren't the end all be all, anyway. A bunch of people don't know how to fight. They don't know how to fix things, they don't know how to help people. We scramble and we get the job done anyway, but - I just want to know people are going to be safe out there. That they're not gonna feel useless, that they've got something they can help with, ways to help. It's hard, you know?
You buy what you can with points, you buy what you know, but you know there could be better out there too, something else worth getting, something easier to understand. You try coming together and talking to everyone about it, and everyone's got their own ideas - they make team leads, they make councils, they want to do their best. But then they want to do everything their way, or they feel responsible and like they have to take the lead, take everything on their shoulders, decide everything. And then there's caring about what team you're in, when, what does it even matter? Who cares about what team you got put in? You don't know what being an Orange or Blue or Red means, and the person who put you in it doesn't even say anything to you.
And all that time, you're still thinking about the people you left. You're thinking about the things you can do or what you could do better, but some reason that box you're trapped in, the one you don't get, even though sometimes it does things that shows it understands you - it doesn't say anything. It doesn't do anything about it.
You're all void trains and you can travel and carry people around, but this thing won't give you wheels.
...
...
[ He sighs, staring up at the ceiling, sat near to the ICP. Is he keeping on any point? Is he just venting? ]
We have a lot more problems than just you, [ He finally admits. ] But that's the thing. We're all different people with different ways of thinking, and we come together, sure, but not really. It's hard, we don't know how to.
Most of all, we do our own thing - because it's the only thing we really know.
[ He sits up, another silence filling in. Hands cupped in the lap of his crossed legs. ]
I'm not saying half the things I think about missions. The way we get it into our heads to just care about 'em, to do a good job; like that's what we should do. 'Cause it's the only thing we can do.
... I started hating doing them - saving people. [ There's something bitter but quiet in the confession. Hating saving people. Hating being out there to help. ] Thinking, this is all I'm here for. It's all I'm going to do. I was brought here because you need Voidtreckers, and out there, there's people who were with me that you brought here that I don't know where they are anymore, and we're never gonna be able to change anything. We're never gonna take them home, we're never going to get anywhere because everything - everything's up to you.
[ He doesn't shout it, doesn't quite stress it angrily. Instead it's hopeless, lacking - a lack of faith in the driver, and why should there be any?
Sitting quietly, lost in a haze of old feelings, fresh thoughts. ]
You shut off the translators when the Ministry message got through. You made it hard for us to talk to anyone. Everyone saying you're just doing your best, you wouldn't be doing any of this if you didn't have a good reason.
You know? We figured that out ages ago, but it doesn't mean you know what you're doing. So what if you've got a brain and you can look up all the stuff out there in the void better than we can?
You're just one train - and we're all just one train or guy when we do things alone.
You know what a Voidtrecker is, but you don't know what teamwork is.
[ He reaches over, know he's going to be done for now, a hand ready to submit it. ]
Sounds like a pretty lousy thing to be, if you ask me, [ he gets out, before ending the post. ]

Just so you know, I think we're all lousy about being team players. Even without the actual team stuff - blue, green, yellow, red, that kind. [ Why did he say yellow?? Now's not the time. ] Sometimes we're great at it, but other times we're bad. We have- blind spots! Everyone's got them, even you! But the thing about teams right, you get to come together, work on them. You trust your pals to do what they're good at and cover you, and you do the same!
But here, we're always changing - there's way too many of us, and we leave and we have no reason to listen to this guy or that guy. And there's nothing wrong with that - we all do a pretty good job considering what a mess this is! Who wants this to be like a military anyway? That sucks!
All I'm trying or wanted to say is, we're never going to be great at covering each other, 'cause--
Wait. [ Wait. Abruptly, and with the realisation: ] Didn't I start talking about that because of you saying it wasn't up to you to make things easier or harder?
[ ...
...
...
....he's definitely confused himself about the ultimate point.
UGH. ] Okay, whatever, forget all that-- wait, don't. Remember: blind spots. Put your heads together, do your best.

So, one, keep up the questioning and answering sess's. Still waiting on the answers part, but, put them where everyone can see them, okay? Don't just stick them on the network to disappear. We can make back-ups, but it's a pain.
Which, speaking of, two: Can you keep around those q&as so we can go back on them? Like, a record? If anyone talks to you in private, then sure, keep those private. But it's good for the nosy people who like to learn things.
Three, let us put info on the ICPs too. Like those video logs, 'cept text or voice logs. So people can grab the info whenever they want.
Four... [ Hmmm, fooour.... ] --Aha, four! If you've got a plan or something you're checking out, let us know. You want us to find your crew? You have to trust our input.
Five- [ ... ... ... ] Okay, I don't have a five. 'Cept, if you have stuff you don't understand or you're confused about what we ask or how we react, you should ask us about it.
It's good to learn about people. [ Very fulfilling process. ]
Alright, I'm going now.

[ ...the train likely made no assumptions whatsoever, but. Whatever. Whatever!! ]
To be honest, you're never going to know about people because one guy talked to you a lot; that's something you get from being around them. Which you are... but then, you're the way you are too. Which is fine, y'know, to a point.
You don't always get people, or they're just more quiet and hard to ready - to know what they're thinking. I knew a guy like that back on Spira. Kimahri; he was real quiet, with a real grouchy face. Pushed me around a few times if I tried speaking to him.
But even with all that, he was a part of the team. He opened up. Me, 'n' Yuna... [ There's a silence, a shift in his tone, when finally- ] ...People will be missing her back home. If she's not there...
...
...it's all about what you do. [ Let's try and get back to the purpose of this. ] You want us to help you find your old crew, but then you don't tell us anything else.
Give us a chance before you write us off - with deciding something's too risky for us. Isn't the void real big anyway? There's got to be places that can help out.
--oh, wait! Didn't you say something about programs coming on or being offline? You don't think there's a place that can help void craft rediscover things? A repair-upper, or some spiritual magic jumbo? There's got to be all kinds of stuff out there that can help!
Yeah, you should look into that. We just need to find some kind of clue...!
[ Okay. ] Short convo today. And no 'Your voice is heard' reply, thanks.
