I didn't really feel qualified to talk and I already had my turn in the interrogation room, so I hung back to listen. And from what I gather...this whole tether and void travel thing is basically creating spirit clones to go off into the void while our bodies stay home?

Please tell me I misheard something, because that's kinda creepy.

You didn't mishear. This experience is something which happens on my star so it's not entirely unfamiliar to me. The soul traveling elsewhere and existing in corporeal form while still anchored to a physical body. As well as the soul which exists in physical form even after the body is gone.

Perhaps I can offer some insight.

I promise no exact details on how we are bound to the Voidtrecker Express. Yet it's possible for what you'd consider the 'soul' to exist independent of its body. Not as an imprint of emotion and memories on extant aether, but as the embodiment of that person.

Properly sustained, the soul can even be given a physical form to interact with the world around them. If it is tethered to the body, then so long as the body is likewise cared for, there should be no harm.

[There is a pause while Elidibus muses as if to himself.]

On my star it takes a certain type of strong will to allow the soul to remain without a great deal of effort. I wonder if this is a factor in how randomly the passengers are chosen. [A pause.] For now, no matter. Try not to panic until we are certain of the full extent of this tether.

I wouldn't mistake it for a dream. You can be reasonably assured your soul is here. And though I understand the experience is new for many, it's not to be feared out of hand.

For now the best course seems to be certain no one attempts to experiment on this tether or test its limits. Study yes and speak with the Voidtrecker Express. But actually go as far as to affect it when we don't know much about the assumed stability. That should be avoided.
