[Nebula 3, morning] Nothing ventured...
[Normally Zelgadis keeps the camera off when using the ICP. Today he's not doing so.]
Since missions seem to come around every month, I wanted to get this out of the way before we end up on some strange new place, but after the train picked up new passengers.
I want to talk magic. And I don't mean everyone's weird powers, but the sort where you learn and cast spells. Because it occurs to me that it might be possible for one person to replicate another world's spells using their own magical framework. Well, not impossible. Worth testing.
If that's interesting to you, I'll be in the library for most of today, but I can hear the ICP. Might help to hash out the theory before we experiment.
[Zelgadis looks like he's about to end the message, and hesitates a moment.]
Also, it might be worth discussing what limits there are on magic. I know what sorcerers in my world consider difficult problems, but not if those are universal.
[another hesitation]
I have a particular interest in magic used to transform. It's not something I've had much luck with in my own world.
[This time he does end the message posting. He doesn't want to publicly ask straight out. Well, not yet. He's not feeling desperate yet. But he has to know, and if this also turns out something everyone finds useful, so much the better.]

[Zelgadis is sitting in the library's lower floor, mostly skimming the random selection of books without really reading any of them, but he does see Caleb approach.]
What falls under transformation magic? In terms of what you can cast it on.
no subject
Transmuting one substance to another and transmuting people into other things. Anything that involves changing the physical properties of something tends to fall under that school. There are other spells that are more... edge cases, but traditionally that is the core of a transmutation wizard's arsenal.
Why didn't you tell me about this, DW?
[That caught Zelgadis's interest clearly, as he's now giving Caleb a very intent look. The sort a starving man gives to a farmer.]
What kinds of things? Other... other species?
DW is a butt sometimes.
If that is the sort of thing you were asking about, at least.

Perhaps even testing the possibility of exchanging spells.

I am what is called a wizard back home, my specialty is in the manipulation of gravity, time, and potential.
no subject
What does potential mean in this context?
no subject
[Technically, it has two contextual meanings, but he will let the mention of gravity cover a more broad meanings.] I can harness the latent possibility of timelines or people, help them to grasp the reality in which they succeed. [Or fail.] Shifting fate, if you will.

And when he speaks it's in a soft tone that luckily is still able to be picked up by the ICP.] It's worth considering, however since we are all from different worlds it does need to be taken into consideration that the laws of magic and physics may not work the same for all, or the source from which magic is drawn from. It would need a safe place to do further testing, as well as possible shielding for individuals doing so during trials. However, it is a field worth pursuing to see if there is similarities between methods, or if they can be taught.

It was both amusing and interesting.
Sure they were meant to be teammates, but the more you could study another, the better you could know them. Just in case.] I agree. It would be interesting to know if it is possible to learn from other worlds, and if there is a limitations due to this unique situation. [He also supposes he should get to know his teammates... as much as Idia just wants to be left alone.] What team are you part of?
no subject
[he points to his shirt -- Zelgadis hasn't bothered to buy new clothing as long as the train-provided stuff is in good shape]
You?

I was placed on Orange Team, apparently. [If his hoodie he arrived with meant anything. Idia's not sure how he feels about that, having not really taken part in a team mission yet.] Whatever they do. Or any of the teams. Is there a point to them?
