Right. So we all know how yesterday was a thing that happened. Apologies to anyone who had to deal with teenage me, by the way.

Now, I can't speak for everyone, but I sure as heck think it'd help if we could all come together and organize something to help us get past it. I'm talking about a formal, adult event, where we can all get together and dress up as smart as the train will let us.

So I'm announcing an Adult Ballroom Social, set for 1900 hours on the 29th of this month.

I originally just had couples in mind - I know quite a few of us who are paired up - but I don't think we should be leaving anybody out. I'm thinking of setting up blind dates for anybody who wants a partner, and having drinks and snacks set out for anybody who doesn't feel like bringing one.

Anyone who wants to pitch in, or who has any tweaks or improvements they want to make, let me know.

Huh. I get it, but I also don't. Balls are a kind of dancing formal occasion? There are special floors for dancing? I mean, sure, when people perform on stage that's where they're at, or if it's some kind of ceremony...

( he clears his throat, since he's not on topic, he realises. )

Ooooh, I see. What's the point of it? Having someone to stand around with instead of talking with just anyone else there?

[Cassie chuckles.] That's how it is at a lot of dances I've been to. But...mostly it's just an excuse to be a couple in public.

I think we'd book the gym car for this. The one with the basketball hoop. Tends to be how most schools do things.

( yep this doesn't precisely track for him, and he's not sure what kind of schools she's familiar with, but that's fine. he knows what the gym car is! that's progress! )

Ah, and can the non couples come along for the fun and the food, or should we slink off and properly leave the couples to live as they will?

( teasing toned, all he says in this. )

You're more than welcome to come solo. Wouldn't be a real dance without wallflowers hanging about the edges.

Ah, yes, about time I be recognised for my flowering beauty.

( he still sounds amused, and he an guess what she means by context. )

Who knows? You might run into someone at the party.

Ah, the time for my blossoming has come...!

( said with a laugh, and a tsk of his tongue. )

I'm more interested in the alcohol, if I'm honest. Or alcohol. These things still have alcohol, right? That'd be the one familiar thing in everything else you've said it's like.

That's the plan. As long as nobody gets too drunk.

On the bright side, at least the train will return those folks to their rooms at the end of the "evening!"

And nobody has to drive home, either.

Hahaha, right! ... Like in a wagon?

...Yeah. Something like that.

... It's definitely not that, is it?

Well, I mean, it sort of is. In my time carriages don't need animals to pull them anymore. They push themselves with an engine that burns fuel.

At all similar to whatever moves this train?

[nutkrusher]

I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess "probably not."

Is that... because we don't know how this train moves?

[nutkrusher]

Yeah. And even if we did, cars in my world don't generally move between dimensions.
