Ah...good afternoon. Forgive me, I'm not quite used to doing things in this manner. But that is kind of why I am contacting you all today.

On the previous mission, I realized that this communication device is useful but that we might benefit more by other means. I'm new so I'm afraid I don't know too many of you and so I hope I am not over stepping by asking this.

But I was curious...Is there anyone else that has communicated with others via a more internal method? Where I am from we have these communication arrays that we access using spiritual power. And if you know a person's personal password you can communicate directly with them through your minds.

[That is the most general way he can describe that...he just hopes he is making things clear.]

It got me thinking that during missions that might be monitored by an enemy, it might be convenient to have such a form of communication that they wouldn't be able to track. Granted I haven't been on many missions so I don't know how many times this would be useful...but it is good to be prepared for any situation.

I'm sorry I have rambled on...

Basically I was asking if anyone else also has communicated in that way in the past and if it might be something useful that those of us with that ability might be able to help contribute to missions in some way.

[Nita... looks briefly surprised at that, but nods anyway.]

[And she will, in some nonindicative t-shirt and slacks combo, with her orange hoodie tied around her waist as has become her norm.]

[Xie Lian arrives wearing white cultivator robes similar to those he had on his own world. A small section of his hair tied up with a purple ribbon to try and indicate his team as best he can without having to wear the attire.]

Good afternoon. Thank you for agreeing to this.

[Nita gives a nonchalant shrug.]

It's not as if it's anything too special, for me, so it's not like it's a problem.

Did you want me to try initiating first, then?

Well...I would need you to have my password in order to access my mind.

[Xie Lian isn't worried about it being abused in this place so he figures it is safe to give it.]

My password...Just recite the Ethics Sutra a thousand times.

[And Nita isn't surprised by that; just the password itself.

To which she quirks an eyebrow.]

Which, since I'm not from the same world or multiverse you are... do you think my own wizards' Oath would count?

[It's a serious compare-and-contrast question, despite coming off as tongue-in-cheek.]

[He looks amused. Sometimes people understand his password but most often they don't. A friend of his often takes great enjoyment in seeing people's expression when he tells them.]

Ah..it's not that complicated. You simply have to say 'Just recite the Ethics Sutra a thousand times' and not actually recite it.

[If he's expecting a shocked expression, he's disappointed this time.

The peridexis, meanwhile, is amused - which Xie Lian may or may not be able to sense..]

I meant more - is it really secure, if it's something anyone can guess?

[Still, she says it aloud; at least it's a lot faster this way?]

[Because even when he tells them the password sometimes they start reciting the Ethics Sutra and so they still have it wrong.]

Begin speaking and we will see if we are connected.

[Nita shrugs.]

/The whole deal for wizards is working with words, and language, and puzzling out solutions. And I don't think wizards are the only ones who like doing that last one on here anyway./

[If those words come through, at least Xie Lian's also getting an answer?]

I am not terribly worried. This is a one on one conversation so even if someone wanted to interfere they wouldn't be able to. At least not for me. I don't know if it works differently for your communication methods.

[At least he knows that this works and that is what he had mostly wanted to test.]

/And if something happens and you have to break off mid-word - well, mid-thought?/

[Nita leans herself casually back against the wall, adding a mental shrug half to see if it'd register as part of the communication.]

Then whomever i am talking with will know I am in trouble. And in a way that also accomplishes the goal.

[Xie Lian is always willing to sacrifice himself to save someone else and he doesn't really feel pain, and can't die. So he isn't afraid of anything that might happen during a mission.]

/I meant more - does the connection get damaged that way? Could you - or the other person - get hurt, or is it more like dropping a wi-fi signal?/

[A 'no harm done, just get help quickly!' sort of deal, she's picturing.]

[He shakes his head. Normally a pretty pointless activity since the one he is communicating with is not normally in the same vicinity as he is...but it is different at this moment.]

No harm will come to the one I am communicating with. At times the link would stay and the sounds will still be heard but for the most part concentration needs to be focused elsewhere and the array will simply end.

[Nita tilts her head in acknowledgement, frown deepening before she shrugs it off again.]

/Sounds like a good baseline all-around, then. Wonder how it'd be best balanced with the other telepathy systems we've got on this train...?/

[The peridexis, that quiet not-a-voice in the back of Nita's head, 'hums' thoughtfully, quietly utters the passcode as a precaution... And, in a 'voice' distinct from Nita's, adds its input:]

/I could always play switchboard, unless you perhaps have experience in that yourself, Xie Lian?/

I don't really have the spiritual energy to be able to be a constant middle person between conversations unfortunately.

[He tilts his head curiously, sensing the differences in the voices. He doesn't quite know what a switchboard is but he thinks he can figure out that connection.]

[Nita can't physically give the peridexis side-eye, because otherwise that's what she'd be doing here!

But she's more bemused by this turn of events than anything.]

/It's not something we'd want anyone intending to help fight caught up in, either. A 'mission control' in the middle of the chaos would be distracted, if not just in more danger...

Anyway, this is a friend of mine, the, ah, 'soul' of wizardry from my world./

/I'm peridexis,/ the other not-voice adds helpfully. /And I assure you I am not usually this verbose; however, I exist largely in an assistive capacity for wizards for functions very much like this./

[It is so strange to have the two voices in his head but not unwelcome. He is used to only have multiple people when in the heavenly array. This is an interesting change that has to be because of her abilities and being connected to him.]

It is nice to meet you as well peridexis. It does make sense that a central user would have to stay on the train and convey the information remotely. I understand they have a type of communication system in place that serves as a base of information during most missions. This would serve as a backup perhaps...should general communication goes down. Or if communications need to stay private.

[There is a sense of polite acknowledgement from the peridexis; after, Nita picks up the conversational thread.]

/Redundancy is always better. We haven't had the SCA-communications for all that long, though, and even they come up against interference sometimes. We'd need something resistant to things that take down tech and magic; combining the strengths of both.../

[Nita glances upward almost aimlessly as she thinks.]

/You are right about the privacy, though; the SCAs come with team filters and personal contacts, but that doesn't mean they can't be overheard or tapped into./

Since I'm still very new to such technology it is a little hard for me to trust it outright. I have been alive a long time and seen that even things you consider secure and sacred are not always that way.

[And he trusts his own mind more then a little thing that anyone can use. He is a trusting person overall, but there is still a lot for him to get used to in this place...especially after everything he dealt with on his world before coming here.]

/Oh, I can understand that, I get you. I'm better with wizardry than tech, any day./

[The peridexis expresses its amusement through the channel.]

/Aside from that... making friends across teams helps, since we tend to be in different locations. I can teleport, but that doesn't mean much unless I've got coordinates./

I have met some on the other teams. My partner also has this ability and he is on blue so we have at least that going for us too and perhaps his network of people is larger.

[He doesn't know how many people Hua Cheng has met but certainly there are some that he trusts.]

[Nita manages a small smile, now.]

/Someone from home? ... That's always good./

[The peridexis allows itself to chime in again:]

/It would help the both of you - as well as the train at large - to compare notes on the matter, before the next mission./

[Dot all the i's and cross the 't's, and so forth.]

I will make sure to do that. I look forward to seeing if this will help us in the future.

[He lives with Hua Cheng as well so talking over testing this practice on the next mission.]
