[Video] Supplies Update

[Senku waves slightly.]

I'm Senku, if you don't know me. [Everyone can't possibly know him, at least, but they've probably seen him around he certainly has a distinct hairstyle, that and he's always working on a project.]

Had a bit of a slow start from the last mission, but I wanted to tell people about the supplies we picked up during the last mission, so you know the food that's available to you.

We picked up fifty-five konjac roots from the devil's tongue plants. I used about ten to make some Shirataki noodles, which are a vegan substitute. The technique can be used in a variety of ways, to substitute for other things, which I'm happy to help with if people have requests. There are about forty roots left over, just stored in the pantry. I'm not a vegan so I don't really know what people might like specifically, but it's fairly easy to do.

Aside from that, we picked up forty passionflora, which included an average of three fruit per plant. To that end, I've put forty of the fruits in the fridge, and I'll replenish them when they're out. The rest are being stored in the arms band so they don't spoil. If I don't notice, don't hesitate to tell me, or if you want them for a project or something.

We also picked up seventy-five cocoa pods full of cocoa beans. I've got them all out of the pods right now, but that means in the next two weeks I'll be making cocoa powder and chocolate, that will end up in the pantry when it's ready. We tried to gather a lot of that specifically, but chocolate takes a long time to process, so it won't be ready until then.

I had help gathering these things from Gen, Inigo, Tidus and Roland on the last mission. If anyone is interested in learning how to make chocolate, or interested in gathering things the next mission we go on, don't hesitate to ask me, I intend on continuing to do this for the forseeable future. [It's his hobby okay.]

Does anyone have any questions about any of that? [He'll stay by the ICP, but he's already picking up what looks like an animal pelt and a bone needle and stitching. He doesn't like to sit idle.]

I think it's more just that it's.. hard for most people.

[ Even those who do want to return home, because Inigo knows there are some people who'd prefer to stay here, or at the very least not return to their own world. But most of the people on the train probably want to go back to their home, right? Back to the people they miss.

Rather than looking at Senku, he keeps on sewing while he speaks. ]

It's hard to stay motivated when you've been stuck here for a long while, especially when there doesn't seem to be any easy way out. When the train keeps blocking any attempts at improving certain things, or finding ways to get back home. A lot of people probably think, "if someone smarter than me can't figure a way out of here, then how could I?"

Ah...

[ Was he doing emotions wrong again? Probably, right? He isn't sure what to say, it feels like Inigo is correcting him and he just bypasses that then, he'll let that go. ]

I guess I don't understand that. I'm the kind of guy who doesn't stop trying when something is going to be possible at some point. Science in a nutshell really. Nothing comes easy. Nothing comes without effort so I don't...

[ He's had his doubts, he's had his moments, but he tries not to. They're weaknesses, aren't they. He can't relate to finding someone smarter than him, there were precious few people who fit that bill. ]

I'm not going to give up.

[ Inigo's gaze flutters up from what he's working on. For a moment he stares at Senku, wordlessly. Usually this is exactly the kind of moment where he'd reach out to hold someone's hand or touch their shoulder, but Inigo knows that kind of thing is a problem with Senku, so he doesn't.

But he does put the needle down for a moment, as if to show he's giving the other his full attention for a moment as he speaks. Anything less wouldn't do. ]

Hey, Senku.. It's okay. I know that sort of thing is hard for you to understand, that's why I thought I'd try to explain how other people may think. [ Because, yes, Inigo is also sure there aren't.. a lot of people smarter than Senku.. Is that even possible?

So there's no way he'd relate to that thought. ]

I think it's admirable you don't want to give up. That's a good thing, hold on to that! I just.. [ Inigo's voice trails off, and he shakes his head with a smile. ] I was just worried you might look down on people who aren't as active about it since you wouldn't know why, you know? But I like to think that everyone has their reason. People always have a reason.

[ It's effective in catching his attention and if he knew the reasoning he'd be appreciative because Inigo isn't wrong that he'd probably be more uncomfortable with the sudden touch. ]

Ah, yeah. Thanks. I mean. I'm trying not to draw conclusions I know that I...do that.

[ He glances away, looking like he's been scolded, which is not far off the mark. ]

No, I wouldn't. [ He shakes his head a little bit, and that's a perception people could have of him, but really that's because maybe some people like him are like that. He doesn't really make those kinds of judgments at all. ]

I also recognize not everyone intends on going home. I'm fine with that too. I just want them to have the choice of what they want to do. I would choose to go home because I have so much work waiting there. My world is in trouble and I can't just abandon it.

[ He exhales and then maybe tries to explain himself. ] I don't- I'm not usually thinking about what other people are thinking about at all. Or what they're doing. I just...figure they're doing their own thing, what they want. Not everyone's just going to see things like I do. Probably no one does. [ He scoffs at himself. He's used to it, painfully so. ] And the things I do have opinions on are just things like looking after each other and making sure everyone is safe and I think everyone should help with that and...

[ He's rambling. He knows he is, but he's just not great at expressing his thoughts when they weren't the logical kind. He isn't sure anyone can appreciate how hard it is for him to do that. He shies away from it at every opportunity, no matter how much it makes people judge him. ]

I don't think the way you think is that strange compared to other people's. Not always, anyway.

[ Sure, there are some ways in which Senku is.. eccentric. Very eccentric. But some of the examples he's giving here aren't that weird to Inigo. He's pretty sure everyone would agree that people who want to stay here should be able to, and that people who want to go home should be able to. Or even wanting to keep everyone safe, that's a pretty common desire..

Though Inigo isn't too sure if Senku himself realises that. When he already says he doesn't think about what others might be thinking. ]

I mean.. I think just about everyone here wants everyone to have the choice of whether they want to go home or not. Most people probably would do something about it if they could. [ Discounting the weirdly rude people on the train, but thankfully those are in the minority. ] But the problem is that they don't think they can.

[ Inigo breathes out. ]

And I understand that. I don't think I can do anything either. I've been trying to think about it, trying to think up ways, but.. everything I think about ends up coming up short. [ Since he's not that smart. And he knows it. ] I bet more people are trying to think of ways to get out of here. But that's not something you can see on the outside.

[ It's only something Inigo realises because he - in total contrast - thinks a little too much about what other people may think. ]

Well that's good maybe...

[ He's skeptical, honestly, because he's got a suspicion that a lot of people do think he has strange thoughts. It doesn't really bother him, he's usually gung ho about everything he puts his heart into. The fact he can't relate to people is more of a challenge the more he tries. It's also kind of exhausting, at that. A big part of him wants him to go back to being the recluse he was years and years ago, but then he'd be lonely.

Now being lonely hurts. He can't quite stand to be alone for long periods of time. ]

Of course anyone can. [ He blinks. He doesn't understand the limitation. ] There's nothing stopping anyone from trying and no idea is bad, considering so far we've collectively gotten nowhere.

[ He nods a little bit. ] I guess. I don't really think about it unless someone tells me something like that. In a lot of ways, I just think about whatever's going on with me.

Of course there's things stopping people from trying.

[ .. well, aside from the train itself, but that is a limitation that Inigo is sure Senku himself is aware of. Isn't that what they all run into, the train limiting the possibilities? ]

For example, I want to reach Naga. So I try to get in touch with her every time we arrive on a new world, just in case it might work one time. So what can I do beyond that? [ He shrugs a little, figuring that it might be harder for Senku to understand this part. That other people run into the limitations of their capacity for thought much quicker than Senku does. ] I just keep trying the same thing over and over, but it's not like there's anything more I can do. I can't figure out what might help get in touch with her more. That's where it ends for people like me, who aren't very smart.

[ Not that he thinks the whole train is as dumb as him.

But, let's be real, there aren't a whole lot of super geniuses either. Because those are rare. ]

[ Senku's brow is furrowed, a sure sign he's trying to understand something and coming up a little short. It's not the words he doesn't understand, but the concept. ]

That's where it..I don't...

[ He presses his lips together a moment and just shakes his head. ]

Alright. I am just going to take what you say as a...a fact or something.

[ Why? Why is that a limitation? Senku can't conceive of a moment when he only has one single idea and nothing after that. ]

It's good you keep trying anyway. I'll keep trying too.

[ That's the best he can offer though. ]

[ Yup, there's that thinky face alright. Though it seems a little hard to believe, even to Inigo who has a vague idea of what Senku is like, that it's this hard to grasp for the other guy.

It may be why Inigo's smile turns a bit wry. ]

Sorry that we can't all be super-geniuses.

[ At least it doesn't sound like a jab at all. Or well, not at Senku. If anything, it's a little self-depricating. ]

It means I run out of ideas pretty quickly.

[ He was going to let it go but Inigo said that and he can't help himself, at all. ]

But then you get more ideas right? I mean...you can't just think something and then not think anymore?

[ He hesitates a moment. ]

I mean, you might not know how to execute the idea or something, but you get ideas...?

[ No, he's really confused about that. He's never understood how people think. ]

[ Inigo starts sewing again, quietly listening to Senku for a few moments. Is it really that hard of a concept for him to understand? Well, if he never even considers what's going on in other people's heads, and it isn't happening in his own.. ]

Do you never run into mental walls or blocks at all?

Not really. I'm mostly limited by things outside my head, and almost never.

[ That's probably a strange concept to consider. ]

At one point we were limited because we didn't have a certain element. That would...there was nothing we could do. It wasn't that I didn't have ideas, but that there were no suitable alternatives. It was frustrating. We got lucky and found some though. Chrome and Suika did.

[ See, that much Inigo can understand too. It's not like he hasn't run into that before either. Especially while talking with Tidus, trying to figure out a way to get past the train's attempts of blocking any and all communication..

But it seems that's the only thing Senku can understand. ]

Well, most people also just have the problem that the well of ideas dries up after a while.

[ Inigo can't help but be a tad insecure about this, worrying if maybe he isn't saying the wrong thing about people he doesn't even personally know.. But he's pretty sure this is a general people trait, and not just an insecure Inigo trait. ]

I have that a lot, really. I'll just think, and nothing more will come to mind. It'll feel like I'm just going in circles, thinking the same things over and over without being able to think of anything new.

[ He's quiet for a moment as he digests what Inigo was saying about how his thought processed worked and he just nodded after a moment. Senku was just going to have to trust Inigo's making a point that's like an initial datapoint. ]

I see...I guess I understand what you're saying. As much as I can anyway. I'm not thinking bad things about you..or anyone else. I promise that. I get people don't think like I do, fundamentally.

[ He sighs a little bit and rubs his forehead. ]

I know I'm difficult.

I know you're not a bad person.

[ That's something Inigo learned very rapidly. Senku is Senku, his own unique kind of person entirely, but that isn't necessarily bad. It doesn't seem like he doesn't think of others and the way they may think because he doesn't care, since he's helped Inigo before, but maybe it's more just that he can't. ]

I'm just trying to help! Give you some insight in the heads of less smart people. [ And, you know, Inigo himself is a prime example of that. Resident village idiot right over here. ] Just ask me if you ever don't understand the way someone reacts, or something like that. I like to think I'm at least pretty good at understanding other people's feelings and thoughts. Or trying to do so, anyway.

[ It's one of the benefits of being a little too empathic. Though it also bites him in the ass when it comes to getting his own feelings hurt. ]

It doesn't bother me. If people think I'm a bad person.

[ He could objectively be one, but he didn't think so. He tried his hardest, and wasn't that about what any human could do? ]

When I was a kid, I didn't have friends. I just had my dad. Taiju defended me when some kids were going to beat me up, and then he decided he wanted to know what weird science stuff I was doing. We became friends like that. He followed me around, and watched me do science. Then Yuzuriha joined us. She also, basically just let me do what I want, and listened, to me talk about science stuff.

[ He wasn't saying it because it bothered him, it didn't. It hadn't at the time either. ]

I've made more friends in the last few years. After...all that time on my own. It's different, and good, but it's like being thrown in the deep end. Gen tries to do that for me, sometimes. Figure out what I'm missing, and I usually miss interpersonal shit. People just...figure out this is me. They try not to bring that stuff to me.

[ It's not because he's mean, or uncaring. If anything, Senku cares about everyone too deeply to ever be able to explain. He wasn't much more in touch with his own feelings, nevermind anyone else's. ]

I just don't have those kinds of answers. Gen does, though. He'd have known all this stuff.

[ Inigo is quiet for a moment. There's a lot of stuff in there he doesn't really know what to say to, other than things he's already said before plenty of times, but after quietly sewing, there is one thing he can think of. Especially since Senku mentions the last few years, so that's even before he ended up here on the train... ]

Was it any different? Making new friends back home and doing so here? [ Since at least the people back home should have had a bit more in common with Senku, right? All being stuck in the same situation, considering it sounded like things weren't exactly easy in his world. ]

[ He was just talking through his thoughts, he didn't know what he wanted Inigo to say to any of that.

He considers the question and snorts. ]

No, I think it's been easier here. Either I'm slightly better at it, or people here are just different.

[ He considers his thoughts. ]

Let me think. I saved Kohaku's life, so we became friends pretty easily. Chrome I defeated in a scientific battle so he became my subordinate and friend pretty easy too. Took maybe two or three months for Ginro and Kinro to warm up to me, and Kaseki. Suika liked me right away. The rest of the village shunned me for six months as being an outsider and refused to see me, aside from coming to eat my food and trade labour for it.

When I took over, it was pretty rocky for awhile, and probably...[ He considers. ] Another six months before everyone kind of tolerated me.

[ He's playing the long game, Inigo. ]

The Mentalist liked me before he met me, but he's a strange one.

[ Sweet Naga, Inigo thinks there's no more terrifying combination of words than scientific battle. Please. ]

I think you really must have gotten better. Six months.. That's a long time.

[ Almost as long as Inigo has been here on the train. He's trying to imagine what it'd be like if he wouldn't have had friends on here all this time. It probably would have sucked so badly. ]

I really can't imagine that having happened here. [ Not even with Senku's unique personality. ]

I was prepared for that eventuality. [ He'll admit this openly. He knows himself, he knows he's not the most sociable person and he knows that people can find him grating, or that he rubs them the wrong way. He's somewhat self-aware on the issue. It doesn't mean he can fix his personality, just he knows what it is. ]

It's a long time, but it was fine. I had a lot of things to occupy my mind. Lots of work to do.
