[The feed opens up with... a far-too-close zoom-in on Enna's eye. But then once she's satisfied it's on, she leans back, and nods to herself.]

Hello! So, Vee did that game where everyone got to ask it three questions. And I thought it seemed kinda fun. It would be a fun way to get to know everyone here. So I think it should be a game for everyone to play.

If you can do this.... Caw, ICP? Thingy. And talk to people. Let people ask you three questions and use it to get to know people! And even if you're the kind of person who doesn't care about getting to know people, it's still worth trying, because if we're all on teams and going on missions together, the more we know about each other, the better we can work together. Tactics, battle strategy, abilities, knowledge, strengths and weaknesses... And things like personality, history, all of that. The more we know about each other, the better we'll be.

Ready? I'll start!

Outside of Science, what's the funnest thing you've done?

[She may or may not be planning to be an utter imp with this, especially given there's no limits to the number of questions she can ask.]
10billionpercent: (Huh?)

[personal profile] 10billionpercent 2020-12-14 07:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Outside of science...?

[ Eva. Does not compute. ]

Um. [ He legitimately has to think about it. ] If it counts, I guess, watching Doraemon.

[personal profile] mtsilver_conquor 2020-12-15 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
[Look, asking about science is way too easy, though she will get to that, eventually.]

If you enjoyed yourself, it counts. What's Doraemon about?

[ This is going to be shocking. ]

It's about a time traveling cat robot that comes from the future to have adventures with a boy who keeps a wide variety of scientific gadgets in his dimensional pouch.

[ Senku. Please. ]

[She's not sure what she expected, but- well. There's worse things to be had in life.]

Is it a book? TV show? Web-comic?

[personal profile] 10billionpercent 2020-12-15 08:16 am (UTC)(link)
There was an anime and many volumes of manga. [ A pause. ] I had all of them.
mtsilver_conquor: (Thinking it over)

[personal profile] mtsilver_conquor 2020-12-15 08:20 am (UTC)(link)
... Give ordering them a shot here?

Or, at the very least, we've got enough people from Japan that someone could do it?
10billionpercent: (I Sense A Plot)

[personal profile] 10billionpercent 2020-12-15 08:27 am (UTC)(link)
It's forty-five volumes, I can't justify those kinds of points. It's fine, I remember the whole thing.

[ The fact the series is geared towards children is not a problem for him. ]
mtsilver_conquor: (headscratch)

[personal profile] mtsilver_conquor 2020-12-15 08:36 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, but can memories beat holding it in your hands again? Plus, not like you'd have to get it all at once, either.
10billionpercent: (I Sense A Plot)

[personal profile] 10billionpercent 2020-12-15 08:45 am (UTC)(link)
I'll think about it but it seems wasteful and frivolous.
mtsilver_conquor: (Default)

[personal profile] mtsilver_conquor 2020-12-17 12:50 pm (UTC)(link)
True that, but it's only getting something for yourself if you don't stick it in the library. Granted, we do have another mission coming up, so it's probably better to think about that and what could be useful.

I don't know; your points in the end.

[Though now she's gonna try ordering one herself. Just because she wants to know if she can do it!]
10billionpercent: (This Is So Exciting)

[personal profile] 10billionpercent 2020-12-17 02:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I have lots of points, I know that's not a problem if I wanted a book or something, but I don't know. We don't have books in my world anymore so it's a novelty to read at all anymore.
mtsilver_conquor: (casual)

[personal profile] mtsilver_conquor 2020-12-19 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
True that, and we don't know if the things we get from home have to be now-now or if they have a time-limit... Something for thought, but probably not right now though. [Especially given they have a mission coming up who knows how long after next Platform]

Anyway, if you could have any book at all, what would it be and why?
10billionpercent: (Huh?)

[personal profile] 10billionpercent 2020-12-19 08:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Do you mean non-fiction or fiction? [ Senku returns because it's so much harder to choose a non-fiction book, but he thinks about it. ]

For non-fiction, I always liked A Brief History of Time, by Hawking. I didn't read a ton of fiction but when I did it was sci-fi...[ Probably not at all surprising. ]

And I liked Clarke's novels, particularly Rendezvous With Rama.

Between the two, Hawking. [ He smiles, yeah, non-fiction wins every time. ]
mtsilver_conquor: (casual)

[personal profile] mtsilver_conquor 2020-12-22 10:33 am (UTC)(link)
Both? [But it's a redundant answer, given he does both.

And she's left a little confused, but at the same time, the fiction one sounds like it'd be an interesting read.]

I can easily say I've never heard of either writer, though Hawking-san sounds like she'd be an interesting professor at the very least, and I won't lie; it'd be interesting to compare how different worlds view time, you know? See what contestants there are.
10billionpercent: (This...is exhilarating)

[personal profile] 10billionpercent 2020-12-23 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, Stephen Hawking was a theoretical physicist, a cosmologist and spent much of his career as a professor of mathematics at Cambridge.

A Brief History of Time is an attempt to explain to laypeople how the universe came to be. He includes how space and time work, the big bang and even touches on quantum mechanics.

It's one of the first books I read in the field, and it helped direct me where I wanted to dive into in more detail, which is everything, of course.

[ He looks rather pleased to be talking about this book, it's clearly something he's interested in. ]
mtsilver_conquor: (headscratch)

[personal profile] mtsilver_conquor 2020-12-27 02:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Honestly, that sounds like an interesting book, even if I understand maybe half the terms that seem related to it.

So, let's start with- what's a big bang and why's it in a book on time? Everyone knows the universe was either hatched from an egg, farted out by one of the gods, or something something other faiths.

It was hatched out of egg, of course.

[The Start of the Universe, Eva. Look, her main gods are birds, but there's also a lot of differant faiths on Arkea, so... (that they can't prove it Does Not Matter.)

She's never heard the term 'big bang' re: time, either, though it feels like it could be science jargon thrown around by astrophysicists and the like.]
10billionpercent: (Curiosity Piqued)

[personal profile] 10billionpercent 2020-12-27 03:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I..what? [ Senku will just stare for a moment. ]

That's not- I promise you that's not how your world was made, worlds don't get hatched from eggs. That can't posisbly be true. I can't discount deities completely in your world, but even if they-

Hatched from an egg?

There's nothing scientific about that! [ He's processing, Eva please, why are you doing this to him. He doesn't want to be mean, he respects people believe really strange things, but...that doesn't make them not wrong. ]

Okay. [ He pinches the bridge of his nose. ]

I'm going to ignore that for the moment. [ An egg. An egg. What kind of theory was that anyway? ]

The big bang is the scientific theory that explains how the universe was created.

Basically there was nothing at all, then there was one single, tiny point of concentrated energy that just began to expand and that point expands outward until the galaxy existed in a big wide expansive place that humans are still trying to comprehend. As it expands, it's speeding up so systems that are furthest from us are moving past us faster than we're moving.

There's a lot of math and calculations that support this. And that energy that was in that point is all the energy in the universe that exists. Energy theory says energy cannot be created out of nothing, but rather it shifts from application to application. So as a human, I use energy. When I die, that energy will go back into the Earth.

The galaxy in my world goes way beyond my planet, and solar system to multiple systems, more than any human could ever see in many lifetimes.

So its connection to time is basically when time began.

[ Farted out in an egg. Eva. Please. ]

[personal profile] mtsilver_conquor 2021-01-05 07:16 am (UTC)(link)
[Excuse you, hatched from an egg, not farted out. Birds don't fart!!

As it is, she does listen to him. It's like Kotone almost, but with far less technical terms thrown into the mix. ]
So, basically, your 'The Big Bang' theory is 'The Great Explosion' theory but with a different name. I'm pretty sure that's how it is back home too. Though... Because of how intertwined pokemon are in our lives, ours sometimes has the birth of the time gods attached to it by various faiths or cults.

[It's not somethings she personally buys into at all, but it's not something she can truly discredit either.]

That said, you don't have to be polite about my faith. Most Arkean's are aware faith and the actual science facts tend to be at odds when it comes to things like this, [Sadly so if you ask her, but that's the way of life and anyway, science has proven faith and myths of the past right at times, so it evens itself out in the end.] yet I choose to believe my faith is right about how the universe came to be at least.

Besides, science has other places it can assert itself when it comes to backing faith up. Or... proving it wrong.

[:|.]

If I was still sixteen I probably would be happy to argue with you all day about this whether or not the existance of God is a thing or not, but honestly, there's not enough people in the world to nitpick.

[ New priorities suck. Trolling forums, those were the days. ]

As it is, the people in the village have strong religious beliefs for some reason I cannot ascertain, except for the fact it must've evolved over time since they were never a science-based society.

So. I don't really talk about that, I let people believe what they want. I personally think God doesn't exist, but that's not that important, in the grand scheme of things. If God exists I'll deal with it when I get there.

[personal profile] mtsilver_conquor 2021-01-11 10:49 pm (UTC)(link)
And I'd just as happily show you proof of the gods of Arkea, though if you really want to see it, I'd nee my laptop and not the stills on Roro or in the 'dex.

[Rotomi are good until you run into things like: no videos on it because you kept sticking all of that onto the laptop.]

Faith is faith; does there need to be a reason to believe in something you just do? But yeah, I get what you mean, and it's easier in the end anyways.
10billionpercent: (Satisfied)

[personal profile] 10billionpercent 2021-01-12 05:23 am (UTC)(link)
[ Senku chuckles lightly at that. ]

Not by definition, but the only thing I have faith in are the principles of science and I haven't been wrong yet.

[ He'd likely never be a convert, but that was fine. He was happy with how things were. ]
mtsilver_conquor: (casual)

Sorry for the delay. Feel free to drop this if it's too old.

[personal profile] mtsilver_conquor 2021-01-29 12:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Fair enough, that.

[And on to more important things:]

So, what's the symbol of the Scientific faith?

It's not a religion, it's not really like that. But I suppose if I was going to pick a symbol, I'd pick a representation of an atom.
