How do you decide when people here get to leave at the platforms?

That is not something that is decided.

[That’s really not helpful when it comes to figuring out why some people get to leave and where they go. Masumi is tempted to prod further, but there’s one question that’s lingering at the front of her mind, and she hesitates before asking, as if worried what kind of answer she’ll get.]

I know you said that you don’t know what happens once people leave, so you might not be able to answer this, but ...is my family okay?

[And she didn’t get any real confirmation on her family. Realistically, Masumi knew that this was a likely situation since the train didn’t know what happened to the people who had left, but it still hurt to not know for sure.
