les_magique: (Let me explain you a thing)

Video, back on the train

I've mentioned this before, but we've gotten enough new people since then that I dare say it's worth repeating.

I am a wizard. That means that I have absolutely no inherited magical talent, but that I can still manipulate ambient magical energy in the environment through carefully calculated understanding of how it behaves when it interacts with a living person.

The practical upshot of this is that not only can I cast spells, but I can teach anyone else how to cast spells. It doesn't require you to be born with power, just to be able to use your mind. And to be able to do a lot of math.

Since we constantly find ourselves in increasingly bizarre situations (though honestly compared to some of the places we've been, that last world felt positively homey.), I imagine it can only be to our benefit to expand our skillsets as much as possible. I've never felt very comfortable with the idea of direct face to face violence, but I've still been doing my best to learn from Monsieur Rieper's lessons, for example.

So what I'm getting at is, if anyone feels confident in their mathematics skills, I would be willing to teach them how to be a wizard. And if anyone ISN'T confident in their mathematics skills, I can also be a passable math tutor until you reach such a point that you are. It's not EASY by any stretch of the imagination, but it is achievable by anyone who is willing to put the work in.

I was afraid of that. I'd accept help, definitely - I'm kind of missing school anyway by now. It might take a bit, but I'd still like to learn! It sounds really intriguing, and... a little lonely, if it's just you? It'll be more fun with more of us, and we can swap notes as we go, right?
sunbloom: (That's exactly right.)

I wish I could apply that to certain other things in my own life! [A rueful smile. If only there were more Precure to peer review with. no don't, that way lies madness] But I agree. It'll be embarrassing until the moment someone finds something you've been taking for granted and your spellcraft is an order of magnitude more powerful. And then someday half the train will work together turn a problem into a pile of ash, and we can leave a world three days early.

Why do I feel like I'm going to be buying a notebook of graph paper from the train? [A brief pause.] It sounds like I might want some anyway for design, but still. Everyone at home would probably look at me like I'd grown a second head for voluntarily taking on more homework, but I'm excited to learn.
sunbloom: (A-as I was saying...)

Well, hopefully magic down the line, but... my friends taught me a little bit of clothing design? I'm not the greatest at it, but I've at least made things for myself before. I've been meaning to get back into it, since fabric would definitely be cheaper than ordering an outfit wholesale from the train shop.

Or I could take it to spider-san, if I didn't mind it being woven.

[Itsuki did pick up on that, yes. Hmm...]

Absolutely. I want out of purple, I just also want to keep a buffer of points in case something comes up and I need supplies... or equipment. [Any problem that requires the Heartcatch Mirage to be imported was officially Beyond Her Pay Grade, mind, but she wanted the option open..] So sketching out designs won't be a problem, but I don't want to spend too much on supplies right away.

Mm! I'll have to see what I can come up with. I'll be happy to share, of course, if it's anything good. Now I just need to pace myself. If I keep picking up projects I might feel like I never left school.
sunbloom: (Good.)

Exactly! Not that this work isn't important, but... I want to finish middle school. And high school.
