Anybody else notice that the names of the months here seem to go in alphabetical order? When I got here it was 'Fiddlesticks', then we had 'Grasshopper', and now we're in 'Horseshoe'. And I bet it goes farther back than that too.

Wonder if there's any particular reason for that? And what the next one might be called, assuming the pattern holds. Igloo? Ice cream? Inchworm?

Yeah. I remember talking about it with someone once, that maybe the months are translated from a different language, and there's more of a connection that way.

Maybe. Given what someone else told me, it seems like ever other one is a plant or an animal, so I guess Apple, Catfish, Egret, and Grasshopper could be some kind of alien fruit or animal that we just don't have an exact word for.

Maybe. I'd kind of like to hear it in the original language, if there is one.

If that's the case, though, then next month would have to be a plant or animal. So maybe Iris, or Iguana?

And yeah, good point. There aren't really many other 'I' animals and plants though, I don't think. At least not that I know of. There's the ones you mentioned, plus maybe... Ibis? Or Insect, if we're being really general with the animal thing. And for plants, maybe Ivy?

Maybe. I kind of like how Ivy sounds. But those are the only ones I can think of for I.

Yeah, Ivy's pretty good.

Though now that I think of it, there aren't really a ton of words in general that I can think of that start with I. At least not nouns. Plenty of adjectives, since there's so many that can have 'in-' stuck on the front of another word to make it mean the opposite of the original word, like 'inconceivable' or 'inescapable'.

[ She nods. ] That's true. They wouldn't fit the patter either, if there really is a pattern to how the months go.

For all we know, it could also just be a coincidence.

Yeah. It could be we're just seeing patterns where there aren't any and the train is just picking words out of a metaphorical hat to name the months. We've got no way of knowing, really. But it's still kind of fun to speculate.

Right. Especially if we make a guess, and it turns out to be right next month.

Yeah, that'd be cool. Maybe we could organize a betting pool or something? Have people guess what they think the next month name is going to be, or place bets on ones people've already posted?

That could be kinda fun. What could we bet with, though?

I dunno... maybe chore duties, or little things from the shop? Nothing too major though, since it'd just be for fun and anybody who lost might end up having to pay out to multiple people.

Yeah, definitely something small would be better. There'd probably be multiple losers too, so maybe the winners can ask for one favor from the losers? Within reason, of course.

Yeah. Or maybe make it an either-or thing. Like, anybody who wins gets a voucher or something that they can exchange for a small item- like maybe, ten points or less- or a favor from one of the losers.

Yeah, that's probably a good idea. We should ask if people wanna do something like that.

OK then. After we get through the nigh-inevitable mission this month, we can take a semi-official poll to see who all has month name ideas, then let people bet on like, the top three or four.
