Hey, got a quick question for the magic people on the train who used books to learn! Any of you got any book titles you can share? Or know how a guy can learn to summon, get fiends or...uh, [ His voice grows quiet, but still audible. ] What should I call them?

...

--Youma! [ ok he's back ] Anyone who knows how to summon youma! Or any magic that's uhh... useful, but not for a fight. Anything at all!

[ Yeah that's helpful, right. ]

My pal's here with me, Taiki-- he's summoned before, but he's looking to find new ways to do it--so anything you can tell us would be great! Thanks!

"Safely? How powerful is this guy?"

"Well...! He's rusty, but he's made contracts before with youma?" He's going to use that word like he knows how to use it. "He's not looking to summon anything big, but even just learning a new way of doing it would help."

A pause.

"But uh, he's looking to learn the basics too. Of magic!"

Optimism!

"Summoning is really my sister's gig. Luckily, she isn't here. And trust me I'm not being sarcastic with that. As for youma, the contract is important. What is his understanding of supernatural law?"

"Magic though, the basics are fairly simple, if he's already specialized in summoning he must know those though. Unless he is working in a Faustian method, in which case he's nuts."

"Faustian?" There's answers Taiki can give himself, but Tidus is curious what a 'Faustian method' is enough to pipe up.

Summons are pretty simple where I'm from--considering you can find the materia for it and know how to cast spells.

[Look, he's only answering because it's about Taiki. Hey! It's not like he cares or anything! Don't go thinking stupid things like that.]

Materia? [ That has him confused, except- ] Oh yeah, that little guy you summoned, on the mission! I forgot. What was that?

Yeah, it's an item from my world. [a short pause] Those orbs I was carrying around that one day.

That was Carbuncle. He's good for healing, defense, and a speed boost.

[ There's a small noise of interest. He does remember now Light saying something about materia. ]

Right, materia- you use that for any magic? I remember Lightning bringing up something about it now.

[ It'd been so long he forgot. ]

There is a book by Monx Kha on board that discusses the magic from her world. It may have information about summoning in it. I believe it's called something like Principles of Aether, Magic, and Magitek.

[ A pause. ]

I am not sure how well it would work here but it may be worth looking into.

[ ! ] Wha-- really? On the bookcase? I never saw it!

[ It's less disbelief and more surprise. All this time-! ]

I was told that it was ordered as a gift for Tony so it may be that its normal home is not on the bookcase, but when Sarai showed it to me it was on the bottom shelf.

[ He sounded more amused now: ] Easy to overlook if you're not searching for it, but it's such a large tome you probably won't be able to miss it now.

Oh yeah? Now that you say that--if it's the one I'm thinking, no wonder I missed it. Doesn't look like a light read when you're looking for one.

That actually... Apart from the last bit. Was very similar. Protection for power after you died. But not a soul and the power was his own when making a pact with a Youma.

"I don't really know the basics of anything... Um... Everything I do is sort of instinctual..." Sort of, except he doesn't have the instincts really. He mostly does things by accident.

"So I don't know supernatural law... or anything like that sorry..."

The orb you were juggling? That was magic?

"Erm, that is incredibly dangerous. Summoning isn't my strongest form of magic, but I understand enough of it to go over the basic things to do and not to do."

"As for supernatural law. It depends on the entity you are contracting. I don't really know much about youma and would need to research them before I can comment on that."

[ Inigo sure isn't a "magic person". Nor does he go anywhere near books.

But he's a simple guy. He sees Taiki and Tidus, and of course he's immediately interested in what's going on here. ]

What is Taiki trying to summon?

[ HOW IS HE SUPPOSED TO KNOW WHAT YOUMA ARE.. ]

[ Easy! Simple! ] Back home Taiki can form a pact with a youma, but it's funny here. So we're seeing if he can learn it another way.

Yeah, they're good for all kinds of magic. The different colors are the different types.

Those orbs, yep, that's my magic.

I’m sorry to say that my magic personally wasn’t learned with a book. But depending on what he can already do, maybe other books would help find more creative ways to apply his magic?

Is he specifically interested in summoning, or expanding his abilities in general?

[ Well, a video for a video is only polite, right? ]

Both? He used to have pacts with youma in his world, but it was a ...him thing. Who he is. So we're seeing if he can learn to do it without that.

But learning other magic would be good. Figuring what he can do! He can't fight though, so we're wondering about other skills he can learn.

"It was different for Taiki where he's from," Tidus decides to chime in. Since the guy probably won't explain himself very well (not in his own defence). "He's a kirin, and kirin have youma to defend them since they can't fight. There was a lot of work to put in it! But 'cause youma are usually around," or so Tidus thinks, "it's not easy to do any of that here."

Well, that's one reason, right?

"But he's willing to learn anything and everything. And it doesn't have to be youma! Even something else. Some basic magic too. If he can form a bond with something in the first place, he has some kinda skill--right?"

Just- "We don't know where to look or to start."
