Video - Grasshopper 2
[ Broadcasting from the Dressing Carriage, a young man dressed in a purple shirt and coat comes onscreen. Though this might be his first time showing his face on the ICP for all to see, he carries himself with a practiced ease that can only come from years of televised experience. He may even come across as a little too stiff and serious, shoulders back and chin up, voice sure and certain. ]
[ From time to time, those watching this broadcast might even see a certain Spider dart in and out of the ICP's periphery, eyes shining in the dim light. ]
Hello and good day to my fellow Voidtrecker passengers. I have already met some of you, but for those I have yet to introduce myself to, my name is Roland Crane. I ask only for a few moments of your time as I read to you the following statement on behalf of a proactive citiz - ah, member of the train. [ His eyes dart down from time to time as he reads from a piece of paper. ]
Friends, a day ago we saw the exit of more of those who once travelled with us. Among them was Yuffie, the Black Team's designated team lead. [ A pause. ] While we are by no means taking over the Black Team, there was a thought inspired by their goals which we would now like to pitch to the train at large. [ Another pause. ]
Your friendly Spider Seamstress would like to take this chance to offer interested parties a special black wristband. These are no ordinary accessories, as they will all be imbued with magic. What they would allow her to do is locate the wearer so that during missions, she can open teleportation gates to their precise location. This means that those on-ground would not be confined to one team, but could go to where their skills and talents will most likely be needed. These people would then form the newly decided upon Black Squad. [ He's not pausing for dramatic effect, you are! ]
This arrangement would be voluntary, but has the power to greatly increase our collective response time, give bolstering to any team that needed it, and to better allocate our resources. [ Roland turns to the ICP, and goes off-script. ] Speaking for myself, I think it's a great initiative given that we need to spread backup and recon depending on the severity of our task. This sort of reminds me of something from home. When there's danger afoot, or you need immediate help, we would call the appropriate offices to respond first on the scene.
[ He turns back to the final part of the script. ] If you have any questions, please contact Misa or Roland in the Dressing Carriage.
[ Roland's eyes dart to the side, as if silently communicating with someone off-screen. He nods with a smile. ] Thank you for listening, and have a pleasant Grasshopper day ahead.
(OOC: kumoko / misa will most likely threadjack or respond to comments here as well!)

It's not a new team, per se. The train still gets to decide who goes on what official team, like how I'm in Purple. The Black Squad...helps get people out of trouble, regardless of what color team they're in. If there's trouble.
Video;
What are we supposed to be winning, in any case?
Video;
[ Roland has to hold back a smile at that. ] If you're asking me, I think we win when we save a lot of people, or get the job done. Make sure no one's hurt.
Video;
Mnn... is every mission saving people?
Video;
[ Roland relaxes a little. ]
Might be. We have to save worlds while we're on the train, so most likely we'll always need to rescue somebody from harm. [ A pause. ] Do you have any abilities?
Video;
I don't have any useful skills for any of the things this train asks about. No one needs anyone who can solve riddles or play chess... and there are people much smarter than me who can, in any case, detectives and scientists and doctors. Talking to flowers... elves and gardeners for that.
So what use is a sad little girl with anything here?
Video;
That's not true. Solving riddles and playing chess are mighty useful skills to have. And between you and me, I'd prefer if you taught me how to solve riddles more than any detective or scientist on the train anyway.
Video;
Video;
Really. Does that surprise you?
Video;
Yes, sir, it does. I don't think anyone has asked me to teach them something, only to demonstrate what I personally know... and they usually find that lacking.
Video;
You can just call me Roland. There's no need for formalities.
[ He looks away for a moment, but after a quick pause, he turns back to the ICP. ]
Say, are you good with writing stories?
Video;
[Because that does, in fact, need explaining.]
I suppose I am. No one would publish them, I don't think, but I do enjoy doing it.
Video;
Well, in any case. I have a proposition for you, if you're interested in doing something new. [ He gestures to her with a wave of his hand. Maybe this is as close as publishing could get, if it works out... ]
Video;
1/2
Video;
I see. Do you want me to share with you a secret?
[ A short yet dramatic pause! ]
I have two of me, too. [ A smile. ] So I guess I kind of know what you're talking about.
Video;
Are they also called Mr. Roland?
Video;
No, he goes by a different name. He - [ He pauses, to think extra hard about how to word this... ] He and I aren't as close as you seem to be with the taller Alice.
Video;
Video;
Video;
I think it's very interesting that you could meet yourself before coming here!
Video;
Well, don't be so certain. I didn't think I'd meet another version of myself from where I come from either. But...it happened. Magic can surprise you. Maybe she's living life in another world, and you just haven't found your doors to each other yet.
[ It sounds ridiculous, really...But Roland knows it to be true. He comes from one world, and he was sent to a Second One that mirrors his own. Maybe the same could be said for Alice, and the Voidtrecker just fast-tracked the process? He'll believe anything if he sees it to be so, these days. ]
Video;
Video;
Of course not. She's your soulmate, after all. She's you. Just because she lives somewhere else, doesn't make her any less an Alice. Like...slicing an apple straight down the middle. The two halves that make up a whole are still from the same apple. Like you, and Taller Alice.
