Council Meeting # 1!

[ooc: I thought this might be easiest for people to tag and talk. So the invitation to the dining car is going to be through the ICP, the actually discussions aren't. I'm listing a few topics as starts, but add your own if you'd like. Please indicate which conversations people should be able to threadjack and which ones they shouldn't.]

[Mid-morning on Basoon 15, Tony appears on the ICP looking freshly showered and still in his sleeper 1C room.]

Council members, please join me in the dining car. It's time we finally got together and discussed some matters that have come up on board. Ash, that means you too.

[Council Meeting Part: Council Members Only]

[When the council members arrive, they'll find tea and coffee have been freshly made and a freshly baked coffee cake with small plates and a spatula are next to it.]

Welcome everyone! Please, get yourself some refreshments and have a seat. Since Manabu appears to be missing, I've asked Ash to join us as the alternate.

[ooc- in case anyone forgot the council members are: Tony, Feanor, Manabu, Sarai, Dread, and Lightning with Ash as the official alternate.]

The first thing we need to discuss here is that Blue needs a few more adult leaders to back Ignis up. It isn't right that he has so many children on his team without also providing him with support as well. I propose Renee and Ash join the blue.

Another thing is I'm going to start offering hand to hand combat lessons to anyone who wants them starting tomorrow morning. I want you to encourage any of the children to join me. As much as I hate that they're in these teams with us, we need to make sure they can protect themselves.

[They've gone over this about his team and Ignis has definitely defended them to Tony. But he won't bring it up again in public.]

If anyone assistance with any sort training, then I humbly offer my services to that end as well.

Absolutely without meaning to step on any toes... I might be a better choice for that particular training. Or we can take turns or different classes.

Different classes would work, as we could then each utilize our greatest strengths to teach others.

Excellent. Dread you and I can take the hand to hand training. Feanor, would you and one of your sons- Curufin maybe- be open to training in blades? Ignis, where are your strengths? I know you have your lance, but I'm unsure how that would work in a class setting.

[Ignis nodded]

I use daggers for close range combat.

So maybe you should pair up with Feanor with the blades.

Also, he made a good point that we should consider other weapons that might come up like guns. I can show people how to shoot. I know Ash and Manabu are skilled here.

I can shoot as well, [Sarai interjected. Until now, the Au Ra had mostly been listening and nodding.] Though as may be obvious, I'm better with a bow than a gun of any sort. [True, she had some other duties, but she was not going to slack if anyone else wanted to learn!] I might be able to ask Feanor or one of his sons to help there, as well. I can even craft bows suited to an individual, though that does require both wood and tools...

Maybe someday I'll get an astrolabe and I can teach that. [Dread's wry chuckle said just how likely he found that to be.]

Great! Sarai and I can work on teaching them how to shoot.

Dread.. what the hell is that?

Oh, I'm a student of Sharlayan astrology and astromancy.

[He's grinning, because he enjoys confusing Tony.]

Astromancy?

How is Sharlayan astrology different than any other astrology?

There's other types of astrology? [ Sarai looked startled at that for a moment, blinking up at Tony, now.] What does that involve?

Sharlayan astrology uses the constellations to read man's fate. The magic is called astromancy, and is mostly used for healing, though it can give...oh, boosts to luck and skill, at times. Depends on how attuned the astrologian is.

[Sarai's a bard, it practically behooves her to know about these things...]

There's Ishgardian, you know that. [Which is germane to nothing but Sarai's comment about other types.]

I was assuming since our worlds have different stars it would result in different astrology, but I don't normally take any interest in astrology. For our worlds it's just a bunch of made up crap science.

And you will get all the help you may need, Sarai. From any of us.

[Fëanor smiles when the Au Ra speaks up. She's been silent up to this point but her addition to the discussion is no less meaningful. It was on his mind too.]

Wood needs to be acquired, tools we can make. I agree on a general idea of bows or any ranged weapon. I could have really used a bow against those flying goblins.

We can even make a set up for target practice in the storage carriage. [The smile turns to a smirk.] I know at least one wall we're very unlikely to damage by any projectile in our possession.

[An astrolabe you say? Dread, you've got his attention.]

Astrology? Most interesting. I don't want to derail current discussion but on another occasion, I'd love to hear more about it.

[He won't elaborate on Ash as they barely spoke but he has a few words to say about the other candidate.]

I agree on Renee. She did a great job on the last mission connecting the teams and helped me with refugees after I got caught up in the mudslide. She might need some guidance but she's independent and thinks quickly. It's a good choice.

[Certainly not only children will need encouragement with the fighting lessons. Reigen for one seemed pretty lost down there.]

I'm sure anyone in need, and I don't have only children in mind, would benefit from different approaches to the subject.

My skill is with blades, swords and daggers, those I can teach but we don't know what we will be against next time nor what weapons, if any, we would have at our disposal. It would benefit all to know at least basics from whatever specialty each of us here has.

[He would sneak a couple of questions about your armor, Tony. Just makes sure first Curufin is withing the earshot to hear any answers.]

[ Ash listened to him with her full attention, nodding in agreement at the points he made and his ideas. ]

I agree. Renee is intelligent and resourceful. Her powers are also well placed in any group. She has a good heart and tends to be well meaning. She has shown to be willing to listen to a guiding hand.

I do not like to speak of myself for fear of appearing to grandstand, but Renee has shown to be willing to listen to me and trust me. I think that it would not be bad to keep us together, at least to start.

...If she wants to of course. We shouldn't force her to do something she would not like.

[ She took a sip from her coffee. ]

I also agree with respect to training. After the last mission I know I could certainly benefit from training with blades, not just hand to hand combat.

Mayhap another questionnaire is in order to try and assess what skills everyone has? From there we could devise who could train their respective skills.

If you're on board with this, then would you and Ignis present the idea to her? I think if we have the two of you join them it should be enough to keep the Blue team from drowning.

[That sounded pretty well decided to him.]

Do any of the other teams need anything? How were they feeling to you all? I was resistant initially to the idea of training in our teams, but I believe there was wisdom in that.

The Blue team most certainly did not drown.

[They were fine, he wasn't.]

There is wisdom in training our teams and making sure everyone is better equipped to handle whatever may come our way. With this training, the team is more properly cohesive and thus prepared as a unit.

Fine. The Blue team got knocked out. Whatever. Same point!

[He gave Ignis a look.]

Stop taking that so personally like we think the Blue team is full of idiots! I realize your teammates did their best. That doesn't change the fact that one of the Blue members were in trouble and it wasn't right.

[Tony got a blink-and-you'll-miss-it look but then Ignis nodded, the polite crisp professional armor was in place.]

Of course.

[The smallest of smirks touched his face at that before he could look away.]
