Sure. A talking cat. Why not? He's put up with everything else that this train has thrown at him, so why not this? But the smell is familiar, so not someone new. He's not sure he could handle "new" right now.

"Just waitin'." He says. Waiting for a fight is what he's doing. "Kids doin' alright?"

"They're afraid and nervous. But I think everyone is." Maru said before he moved, hopping up onto the table beside the other. He dropped himself down to lay with his head upon his paws and sighed. "I wonder if everyone is waiting for that shadow to show up..."

If it did, what would he do? What could he do? Maybe he would just take all the kids away. He could move fast when he wanted. Speed them all out of the way and let people like this guy deal with the shadow. That seemed the best option. "It's so bothersome..."

He nods. He can smell the fear, the uncertainty and the nervousness. He knows what's going on. Everyone's trying to hide it - hell, even he is trying to be subtle - but no one's doing a very good job.

"Won't get in here." He growls, softly. Please let it try.

Maru turned his gaze toward the door, and then back to the big guy. While Maru didn't growl, he could understand why the guy was angry. And agreed with him. The thing wouldn't get in. Maybe he couldn't do too much, but he would do what he could to stop it from hurting anyone else. He'd help.

He wasn't really afraid, if he was honest. That would require a level of caring about himself that Maru just didn't have. Was he worried? Yeah, he was that. He didn't want his Eve or any of the people he knew as friends to get hurt. But there was no fear in him.

"I don't think it'd dare. Too many people."

Creed pulls his hat down over his face. "You'd be surprised at what people might do." He rumbles, keeping an ear on the people in the car, and the people coming in. He doesn't like this. He needs to be able to go smell who this might be, but the kids are more important.

"Not really... Not much surprises me about humans..." Maru sighed heavily and closed his eyes. When it came to their capacity for bad, no, he wasn't surprised. He'd lived for a long enough time to see some of the worst that humanity had to offer. And yet he was convinced that he was the monster. Go figure.

Creed's blue eyes peek open and look at Maru. "I ain't human." He says, closing his eye again, and settling in to wait. Honestly, he doubts anything will happen, but he feels better, being a menace.

A little kitty shrug and a lazy yawn.

"Neither am I." He had once. A long, long, long time ago. But not anymore.

Creed rumbles out a chuckle. "Didn't expect you to be." He stretches a bit.

"You always a cat?"

"Nope." And then, after a little kitty shrug, Maru shifted back to his human self in a little blue/black puff of smoke.

He sat on the table, legs crossed, blue jacket on and his hood up. The black fur lining looking very much like cat ears. "Guess I'm a vampire... kind of. But I like snacks, not blood... so I wonder sometimes."

Creed doesn't even blink. Now, if he grew a spaded tail and started teleporting, then Creed might blink. But now? He's willing to accept just about everything.

"Vampire, huh?" Creed shrugs. "It's a living, I guess."

Maru gave him a weird look and leaned back some. "Was... was that a joke?" It sounded like a joke. A really bad dad joke. This guy hadn't seemed like the type!

Creed's grin is all fangs. Was it a joke? Was it? He's sure as hell not going to say, because Creed is a troll and a jackass. He stretches. "Was it a joke?" He sips the coffee that was at his side. He's not going to make it easy for anyone to tell if he's joking or not.

Maru looked at him oddly, then shrugged.

"It doesn't really matter." It was so bothersome trying to work out the secret meanings behind what people said or did. Joke or not, it was an odd one, because he was very much alive.
