Sooooo, not being able to talk to most of the train that day sucked, huh? I don't know what to think about any of that, but since we can talk to each other now, I was thinking: How about we share where we're from, and see who's from worlds like ours?

And who speaks the same languages too! An actual list be better if that ever happens again, but for now, tell us about the kind of place you're from, what makes home home to you! You got kings or dragons? Machines? Portals to other worlds? Talking sea life? You just trying to get through school?

I'll go first to give you guys an idea, but share whatever you feel like!

But it's different, that's for sure. Have you actually been on any missions back home? How do those work?

Yeah, I've been on some missions before. Normally, I'm with a team of others with different powers, and we see what's needed to fulfill our objective. Even if that means not using our powers.

The last mission here was a little like that. Some people had trouble using their powers when we got there. Don't know why; it din't affect everyone.

You think that's possible for you? Just...not being able to use 'em, 'cause something's blocking them?

[ She hesitates a bit as she considers that. ]

Well...I'm more used to using them, but we're also taught to adapt, and think on our feet. I won't say it wouldn't be difficult, but...I'll try to manage.

Oh, hey, don't worry! I was thinking because you said it's in your genes, right? I didn't know if anyone would be able to do anything about that.

[ Whoops, he didn't mean to worry her...! ]

But whatever happens out there, we'll have your back! We don't know each other, but we're all in this together.

Technically yeah. But sometimes the powers themselves don't manifest until later. My powers only started manifesting around two years ago.

[ Wow, has it only been two years? It feels like much longer than that. ]

That had to be a weird day for you. All I had to worry about was puberty.

Or if we're talking two years ago, making it in professional sports.

[ Not waking up and finding he could phase through things. ]

Ugh, no kidding. At the time, I thought I was having the worst day ever.

[ How young and naive she had been. ]

But it turned out okay. That's when I joined the institute, and things got better.

[ And in some ways more difficult, but that's another story. ]

Well, sorry you got dragged along for this ride. Hopefully you won't be around long? But there's no telling how long you stay or don't.

Guy I showed up with and roomed with disappeared after a week.

[ She's kind of torn between wanting to go home or staying and helping. ]

Coming close to a month now. I showed up on the first stop this month. You're from the last one, right?

[ She nods. ] Right. So I'm still pretty new.

Yeah, I don't know a lot, but people get called up to some part of the train, and then they disappear a while? Or altogether. It's something like that, anyway.

Nobody knows why. Whoever's running the train listens to some of the feedback, but when it comes to actually talking and giving answers, forget about it.

Hmm...that's really weird. I wonder what they're doing.

[ She can't help feeling a little suspicious too. Were however was in charge up to something? ]

No clue. And no one's ever met whoever's in charge!

I mean, some people think it's the train itself doing all this.

The train? Like...the train is alive?

[ It isn't...the strangest idea she's heard. But it's up there. ]

Yeaahhh. [ Yeah, he knows how that sounds.

I don't know what I think about that, but I care more about what's happening than who or what's doing it.

Yeah...I guess that's true. But sometimes knowing someone's intentions can help.

[ It's hard to figure that out if that someone is a train, though. ]

Sure, I wanna know that. I just don't care if it's a train or a magic doll behind the wheel, you know? I still want answers!

Yeah, that's a good point.

[ She supposes that it wouldn't really matter whether a train is sentient or not, to really understand why it's doing all of this in the first place. ]
