Sooooo, not being able to talk to most of the train that day sucked, huh? I don't know what to think about any of that, but since we can talk to each other now, I was thinking: How about we share where we're from, and see who's from worlds like ours?

And who speaks the same languages too! An actual list be better if that ever happens again, but for now, tell us about the kind of place you're from, what makes home home to you! You got kings or dragons? Machines? Portals to other worlds? Talking sea life? You just trying to get through school?

I'll go first to give you guys an idea, but share whatever you feel like!

Ooph. [ His mouth is rather pulled in a tight frown. ] Is there something you can wear when it rains? How often does it rain?

[ Was it usually raining? ]

My jumpsuit has a hood on it, and the jumpsuit's made of material strong enough it doesn't weather immediately.

It's hard to know when there's gonna be timefall; there's a radar system, but it's not accurate anything more than thirty minutes out, and there are places where it'll always rain— BT areas, usually those spots are sites of disasters.

Sounds like a tough way to work... [ And live, for that matter. ] How long's it been going on for now? There been any way to figure out how to do anything about it?

You know, I'm not sure how long it's been going on. As long as I've been alive, certainly.

[Which means it's not something that's recent at all.]

It's not really one of those things that can be fixed, I don't think. Honestly, these days the only people who remember the way the world used to be are all elderly.

Ergh...

[ It's really one of those negatives of life, isn't it? A shitty situation with no clear answer. It must have been how people felt around when Sin first started appearing. ]

It's a good thing people are tough. I mean, the people in Spira weren't made to go underground... but I think I mentioned Sin to you before, right? A giant fiend going around destroying villages any time they got too big. [ He sighs. ] It's amazing what people can manage to get through.

[ Because there's no other alternative. But it is impressive, in a way you wouldn't want someone to go through. ]

Did your world keep some of its technology?

Some of it. I know a lot of it was rendered useless when the chiral clouds covered the sky. Something about it interfering with the technology that was used before, I don't really know the details.

[It's pretty clear he doesn't know anything about the old world technology, though.]

BTs have been known to destroy entire cities, if they come into contact with people. It sounds like Sin is just as bad.

Was. We got rid of it thankfully, but it still took a thousand years to do. It attacked anywhere that got too big, or just 'cause it was in the way.

You can travel the whole of Spira in just a few months. By the sounds of some other places, I don't know how normalthat is.

[ But it was small, pretty much. ]

You have anything than the BTs? Sin's gone, but as far as I know, fiends are still a problem. The leftover grudges of people who died... we can do something about them, but after everything Spira went through, there's a lot of them. It's not too safe for people to just go anywhere.

We do have some. It's people, though. MULEs— I guess the easiest way to describe them would be a gang, of sorts. They're all addled out of their minds from chiral poisoning, but usually aren't after harming people, just stealing things.

[A nuisance, in other words.]

It's the terrorists you need to be careful of; they're not interested in stealing things from you, they're interested in hurting people, or worse.

In a world like that, don't you guys have enough problems?

[ Ugh. ]

Do you bump into them above land? Now that I think about it, you must need to stay well defended. If you're delivering goods for people and you've got the rain to worry about -- and other people too.

[ Up to no good. ]

You do, yeah. I always carry nonlethal weapons with me just in case. Though, for the terrorists, it's better to avoid them completely if you can.

What a pain. [ Geez. ] Still...it's home, right? You must have people you miss.

[He actually hesitates at the statement, though not very long.]

...Yeah.

The one I'm worried about is Lou. She's a baby; it's not like she'd understand where I went.

You left a baby behind?

[ He says that instantly, alert with concern. Though after a second-- ]

She's with someone, right?

Yeah, I left her with a friend. I was... gonna do something, before I showed up here, and she was the only person I could trust with Lou.

It's been... well, it's been a long time now. I'm sure she's wondering what the hell happened. I wasn't planning on being gone for long at all.

[ That's relieving, but Tidus still sighs as Sam goes on, a grim pull of his mouth. ]

Yeah, I wish we had some way to get in touch or...let people know what's going on back in their own worlds. There were people in the middle of fights back home, big ones. Not to mention the people with families just up and disappearing.

[ A light scoff. ] Wonder if anyone's tried asking for a way to mail back home?

That's a good question.

I'd want to explain to Fragile what happened. As things are, she might think I'm dead. I... well. I was headed to the Beach. A purgatory of sorts. One wrong move, and I wasn't gonna come back.

[ Huh? That puts any thoughts of mail to the side. ]

Why were you headed there for?

To rescue my sister.

Right, I remember you told me about her.

[ Now they're here...

He doesn't want to ask if she'll still be alright without him going to get her, since he might not even know himself. And if he does-- Tidus lets out a small frustrated sound under his breath. ]

The more I hear about what people were doing before this, the more I don't like the way it drags us along.

[ The uncertainty. What it drags people away from. ]

She's going to be fine.

[He's not quite able to keep the bitterness out of his voice.]

It's... complicated, at least for me. I had a long chat with the man from the same world as me. He filled in a lot of the dots for me.

Yeah? [ He says it with some relief, though it doesn't entirely extinguish his own frustration. ]

But you wouldn't have known if he wasn't here to tell you. How does that help, taking people away at a time like that? Whoever's doing this sure has great timing.

It's because we're both here that the two of us were able to talk it out. She pitted us against each other for her personal gain.

I suspected something was off, but I had no idea my sister was the one lying to me.

[It's pretty clear he's trying not to get into it too much, but that it seriously bothers him anyway.]

Eh? [ Well that's an abrupt turn Tidus wasn't expecting. ]

What was she trying to get out of you?

[ He can't help being curious, with everything Sam' said about his world. Going to somewhere dangerous as he'd described it--what would've been the point or purpose? ]

It's complicated.

[He shakes his head.]

She wanted me to do something for the government, and knew there wasn't any way in hell I'd do anything for the government. So she cooked up a story about being kidnapped, and working with the government was the only way to help find her.

I'm sure there's more that I'm missin', but given how often she lied to me, I doubt the guy here knows much more about the situation.

[ Well. ]

That does sound complicated...

But if you go back and you know that... what are you gonna do? You got any idea?
