fiddlesticks 25, video from standard coach: open to all

Sooooo, not being able to talk to most of the train that day sucked, huh? I don't know what to think about any of that, but since we can talk to each other now, I was thinking: How about we share where we're from, and see who's from worlds like ours?

And who speaks the same languages too! An actual list be better if that ever happens again, but for now, tell us about the kind of place you're from, what makes home home to you! You got kings or dragons? Machines? Portals to other worlds? Talking sea life? You just trying to get through school?

I'll go first to give you guys an idea, but share whatever you feel like!

( ooc: this is open to all, meaning feel free to put up a post and chat with other characters! )

Usually.

Not everyone has magic. Only a very, very small minority do, and the witches, especially, remember what it was like to be hunted to near extinction by frightened, ignorant humans. Other magical races, as well. It’s far better to live in the shadows, they think.

I used to be quite friendly with several people on the Council, but now that I’m a thoroughly average human myself, I can’t imagine that they’d react very well to me. I had something of a reputation, and I can no longer maintain it. Alas.

[That’s a rather sinister looking grin on such a tiny, angelic face.]

Well spotted. I’m 681, at last count. But then I died and the train saw fit to bring me back as a human and not the monster I once was. So I suppose I am ten years old as well.

[Joss smiles and suddenly he’s a smol again. Totally innocent! No homicidal urges here, no siree.]

I haven’t yet had the pleasure. Really, since I’m fully human again for the first time in seven centuries, I suppose I’m much more of a kid than I used to be. I’ve even started growing again. I’ll grow up, get old, and die—hopefully of fantastically old age. I’m not what I used to be anymore.

I was born human. When I was ten years old, I was dying of bubonic plague when a woman who had been assigned to nurse me decided to turn me into a vampire. That was about 670 years ago, and it was my first death. After I was reborn as a vampire, I was frozen. I didn’t age a day beyond my moment of death.

My second death came a little over a month ago, when we were on the mission to the space station. I was murdered: shot through the chest by a saboteur. Since my heart was destroyed, I died. I woke up in the baggage car a few days later, fully human. As far as I can tell, my second death broke the vampire curse, so I revived as the person I’d been before being turned. Just without the bubonic plague, than God.

I would imagine that I am something of an outlier in this regard. It’s supposed to be impossible to break the curse.

[But, thanks to his otherworldly travels, here he is: ten years old and completely, irrevocably, human.]

It’s strange. Imagine, if you will, that you’re used to all of your senses being so heightened that the feedback is almost maddening. You can see the heat signatures around living beings. You can hear heartbeats, smell fear. You’re far faster and far stronger than a grown man even though you’re a fraction of the size.

And then you wake up one day and...nothing. You feel deafened and blinded. Your body no longer reacts the way it’s supposed to. You’ve gone from near immortality to completely mundane childhood, and you’ve suddenly been saddled with spectacles and an asthma inhaler to add insult to injury.

That’s how the last month has gone, for me.

[Positives? He has to think for a moment.]

I suppose that finally being able to get taller and ultimately go through puberty is something of a benefit. I've been ten years old for six hundred and seventy years.
