fiddlesticks 25, video from standard coach: open to all
Sooooo, not being able to talk to most of the train that day sucked, huh? I don't know what to think about any of that, but since we can talk to each other now, I was thinking: How about we share where we're from, and see who's from worlds like ours?
And who speaks the same languages too! An actual list be better if that ever happens again, but for now, tell us about the kind of place you're from, what makes home home to you! You got kings or dragons? Machines? Portals to other worlds? Talking sea life? You just trying to get through school?
I'll go first to give you guys an idea, but share whatever you feel like!
( ooc: this is open to all, meaning feel free to put up a post and chat with other characters! )

Of late, I hail from Limsa Lominsa, continent of .... mmm.. Aldenard I think, very specifically of the crew of my family's ship The Merry Dancer, a completely legitimate and legal privateering vessel that in no way ever remotely is involved in piracy. Beautiful ship, big guns. We're working on converting to a proper sedentary-like lifestyle on the shore, doing the whole man-of-the-land thing but pir-- privateers struggle a bit with the swing between sailing and farming! I suppose my idea of 'home' is pretty colored by that these days, steady climate, unpredictable seasons and the smell of the sea on the wind. [Deep breath!] Ul'dah, a neighboring nation, has a sultana. Had? Anyroads, if you want it it can probably be bought there for the low low price of an arm, a leg and a soul, not necessarily your own. Gridiania has some sort of tree worshiping cult in power. Garlemald's got an emperor, and they focus on tech over magic since they can't actually do any magic without some very bizarre modifications. Head to Ala Mhigo and the place is run by a sort of elected commune of some sort, don't generally venture there. Keep going north, and you'll hit Ilsabard, which is where lion-folk come from, and as scary as they might look they're not into eating other intelligent races. Doma used to be a pretty major nation but ever since the giant flaming nine-tails fox took over the government it's just been at war with Garlemald over who has the prettier population. Normal people can't get to other worlds, but if you want something unusual that talks just look around a bit and you'll find catfish people, lizard folk, little puffballs with pompoms on their heads, dragons, the list goes on.
[Fandaniel crosses his arms over his chest and frowns.]
I can not recommend what passes for public education in Limsa.

[Well, she's been good and not tailing Fandaniel around shooting him suspicious looks, but smearing her adopted home? She can't stand for that, and thus, she speaks up. Though she has to smirk a little at the 'completely legitimate and legal privateering vessel'.]
My Ul'dah still has a Sultana, she didn't get the chance to step down. [Luckily, Nanamo didn't get assassinated either.] It also has the Syndicate, which is...a low down group of money-grubbing rakes...oh, for the love of the Twelve, if I have to fact check everything you say, there's not enough alcohol on this train for it!

[He sounds utterly, utterly bland.]
And who do you think I meant would be selling the things that can be bought at exorbitant prices, the beggars? Tidus wants an overview, I provided it. Should he suddenly desire to go to Ul'dah, I would be much more detailed, and perhaps offer to hire a bodyguard or two. Besides which, what makes you think you have to fact check anything at all? And if you do, why did you choose those?
[Honestly he'd thought Tamamo Gozen would have gotten way more attention, maybe she'd just never gone that far from home.]

Only two, with the Brass Blades in Lolorito's pocket, essentially? [Especially now, when Raubahn was helping Lyse Hext run Ala Mhigo...] Four or five is a better bet.
[And then, she snorts.] Because I've kicked your nine-tailed fox's arse up one side of the One River and down the other, and if she were the actual ruler, I think Hien Rijin might take offense! Though the part about still being at war with Garlemald is true. Couldn't say whether or not it was due to who was prettier, though.

[He shakes his head, expression turning to one of pity.]
You really don't know how they work. Those foxes turn into hyur regularly, and use it to trick and deceive left and right, though if you catch them at it they have to marry you so given your situation I would avoid ending his charade.. Nevertheless, he's one of them! And there is going to be a fight sooner or later over who is prettiest, him or the Garlemald grand champion of physical presence.

Who's that, Zenos yae Galvus? Twelve above, I should hope not!
[She waves a hand, though.] Hien is darling, but he is so not my type. He has been...how do they say here? Friend zoned?
no subject
[Fandaniel gestures in vague negation.]
Whether or not one might do so to the fox in hyur clothing, however, is an entirely different matter, and I leave it to others to experiment. But if you are not inclined to suddenly have two husbands, I suppose it's for the best that you never, ever expose his secret.
no subject
They're not wrong about the Legatus, no. I've been close enough to bounce a gil off his backside, but I was more inclined to bounce an egi off of it.
[Dry again, but that's more due to her dislike of Zenos than Fandaniel.] Oh, no, you're the first I've heard of that in regards to Hien. If being a mortal is what he wants to play at, by all means, I shan't burst his bubble.

And dragons in turn had long memories and unique senses; whatever form he wore rarely fooled them, and they could recognize his return. He hoped Zodiark would find them worthy of continuing to dwell in the world. He'd have to put in a good word or two.]
Tiny eikons would surely amuse him more than threaten him, given what Garleans favor attacking. Given rumors, I'd be surprised if he wouldn't consider such a thing to be tantamount to going out for a nice evening on the town.
[...Actually, he wouldn't be surprised if such tactics would lead to Zenos becoming rather obsessed with the Warrior of Light.
... Maybe he'd have to pay more attention to what's going on in Garlemald after all.]
Well good. The locals often enjoy the protection of their foxes, and it would be unfortunate for them to lose their guardians to the Garlean army dance-offs for no good reason beyond 'Well I thought it would be fun if everyone knew they weren't really hyur'.
no subject
[She gives a slight snort at that.] With Zenos, I imagine his 'night on the town' is more inclined to be slaughtering...something. I never did precisely cozen out what, exactly, he wanted to hunt---besides me, of course.
[There's your answer, Fandaniel. For free, even.]
I had no reason to think he 'wasn't really Hyur', so. He had me fooled. And I shall be content to act as if I am still fooled. [Assuming her version was actually a fox, the way Fandaniel claimed he was, instead of the conventional way. Hien was a cutie. She was married, not dead!]
no subject
[He taps his chin.]
Or so I'd presume, I can't say I've ever visited their training facilities. Not enough plants for my taste, their idea of landscaping is 'Let's add more steel!'. I think the Legatus would be happy to hunt any prey he considered tough enough to be worth the chase. I'm truthfully shocked adventurers got to the dragons' Elder Primal before he did!
[The ascian raises his hands as if to gesture to his hair, expression utterly innocent.]
You can tell a fox in hyur skin by their hair, or occasionally outfit. They miss their elegant fluffy tails and mimic the style where they can. Though, now that I think on it, how is the little Sultana doing?
[There's a sudden whiplash of topics.]
Tis rare a mortal is so given to sacrificing self and position to aid others, I had been sorely displeased by the rumors something had gone terribly awry. Which, I will note, is NOT any of our doing at all, consensus has long been that she is adorable and to be left to her own devices.

She's faring all right, I think, though the loss of Raubahn to Ala Mhigo's leadership will be a bit rough for her. She's strong though, she should be all right in the long run. I hope. So long as the Syndicate doesn't try to throw the proverbial gum in the works...
[She blinks at the Ascian, then.]
Startling, that, but good to know. There's a fair number of us who think she's a darling and a treasure, too. Oschon knows I'd be one of the first to lift...well, bow or staff, I don't really do blades. But still, I'd be there to defend her, if Nanamo had need.

Iiit sounds like there's a few people here from the same world as you, then...?
[ He sounds. So unsure. He can't ask about anything they're talking about because he doesn't get any of it. ]

[...]
Incidentally should you manage to visit I will ensure no harm comes to you. As a favor for not hitting me in the head with a sword.
[Although his expression is utterly serious something in his tone suggests he's anything but.]

Sure, it'd be fun! It sounds a lot bigger than any part of Spira.
[ But now that he's actually thinking about it, it does make him thoughtful: What would it be like to go travelling? And not being stuck in an overstuffed train. ]
I've never actually travelled much. Other than being a guardian for Yuna on her pilgrimage... I don't know what that'd be like to see.
Wish we could take a few weeks and experience it somewhere. You know, without the endless fighting and life-saving part of this trip.
no subject
[Mortal life is short. Tidus should pack everything he can into it.]
Given what I'd heard of recent events, perhaps the train itself could use a small vacation and might be coaxed into visiting somewhere for fun. I'm not sure how you'd go about trying to convince a train of all things, but it might be worth a try. Sightseeing instead of panic and violence.
no subject
Like, 'Hey, I know you picked us up to go on life saving missions and won't tell us what's up with that, but how about a vacation? We've been good.'
[ Too bad for the murder going on. ]
no subject
[It can't hurt. Fandaniel taps his chin.]
We could give it a try. I don't know many I can convince to go along with it, but you seem a friendly and charismatic sort, you might have better luck than I..
