Just doing a check - how many of you can make some kind of portable healing item? Like... a potion or stimulant, or, dunno, a cake, or something that'll heal injuries quickly. Missions are getting pretty dangerous, and with it liking to split the teams up so much, I figure it'd be good to start thinking about back-up plans in case a team's healer is taken out of commission or ends up 'visiting the control coach' during mission week.
[ Like her, for example. ]
Just... gimme an idea of what you can make, and what you'd need for it, I guess. Reply to standard coach, or come and talk to me.
[ She reaches towards the screen, then pauses. ] Oh, right. I've finished writing up my notes of the missions so far, so if you want to come and give 'em a look, get an idea of what you'll be doing in the future, that's fine too.
[ Bwip. ]
[ About ten minutes later, she's back: ] Just repeating something Tidus said - it'd be good to know the same for defensive supplies. Stun grenades, nets, deployable barriers. Magic or whatever else that does the same thing.

Guess that's why they don't let Red team near the evacuations.

[ If there's any evidence that Inigo feels at least somewhat more comfortable around Lightning now, it's this. That's genuine encouragement, rather than an attempt to flirt. (Although it can be hard to tell which is which with Inigo, considering the generous amounts of compliments he throws around..) ]
I bet you could have been super convincing to those people if you had tried!

Dealing with civilians was never my favourite part of being a soldier, so... let's hope we don't have to find out how convincing I can be. [ She taps the next set of notes, about to ask him about the ice valley, then changes her mind and squints at him again. ]
If you could have brought any of your gear from your homeworld, what'd it be? Not just weapons.
no subject
Well, obviously my first choice would have been my own sword. But if I had to think of anything else.. Most likely vulneraries? They'd be handy to have on hand during the missions in case I'd quickly need to heal something minor without bothering any of the healers.
no subject
How are you for healers? Purple's a big team.
no subject
[ There's a beat where he seems to realise she might mean that more personally, and he adds: ]
I'm fine though, I don't really require healing. [ Read: he just keeps on fighting even with his injuries and lets them scar over, but sssh. ] So that's already one less of the purple team needing to be taken care of.

And now she's put her pen down to give him a Look. The Look being that of someone who's used to being on the other side of that dismissive kind of attitude. ] Inigo...
no subject
He totally knows what that tone means, but tries to awkwardly laugh all the same. ]
Yes..? That's my name, don't use it too much!
[ Although he's also aware.. that this probably isn't going to work with Lightning of all people. So he should probably elaborate a bit more. ]
Really. I mean it though. I'm used to a lot. We have a lot of people more vulnerable than me on this train, they need help first.

[ She lets him off from the Look, but only to close her eyes and stifle a sigh. ] I have enough of this with the kid, I had to march her over to medical because 'not bleeding' was fine for her.

[ He knows it doesn't exactly contribute to the current conversation, but that's exactly why he says it. They're breaching a serious topic here, and as if to keep Lightning from realising just how truly serious it is, he's bringing this levity to it. Since he can't fully back out of this anymore, he might as well make it seem like a casual of a thing as possible. Something that isn't all that much of a big deal.
Because what else is he supposed to say. That it's a remnant of dealing with an apocalyptic hellscape with limited healing resources? That'd sure ruin the image just about anyone has of him. Inigo can't have that. ]
But I'm fine. Really. Look.
[ He pulls the top of his hoodie to the side, showing his bare shoulder. There's a scar on it - something that kind of looks like a huge claw. It seems to run further down, although the rest of it is obscured by his hoodie. ]
This? Never got it treated. And I'm fine! Didn't kill me.

Stares at it. And then at him. Her voice goes absolutely deadpan. ]
I'm missing what part of this show-and-tell is meant to convince me you don't need as much help as anyone else.
no subject
I'm trying to say that I survived that. [ And plenty of other times. There's a lot more scars hidden underneath that hoodie, after all, but he sure doesn't want to show off the full extent of it. ] So I can handle more than the average person.
[ It might be slightly stubborn, insisting on that even in the face of her deadpan, but Inigo genuinely believes this. No, he has to believe it and live up to it. ]
no subject
Which, because it's her, she absolutely is. ]
Just... There are people in here that don't wanna see you hurt, okay? No matter how much pain you can take, doesn't mean you should.
[ PEOPLE WHO ARE NOT HER. Obviously!!! ]
no subject
Talk about the only argument that may just be effective on Inigo in this case. He doesn't give a damn about his own body or health, after all, but the idea of other people worrying about him or upset that he's in pain is an idea he Sure Does Not Like.
Clearly he'll just have to make even more of an attempt to hide pain then, right. The obvious conclusion of what Lightning is trying to tell him here!
But instead he just says with a bit of a smile: ]
So does that include you? [ He's.. mostly just trying to make a lighthearted joke to play this seriousness that's driving him into a corner off.. Like haha, Lightning actually not wanting to see him hurt, what a joke, right! Funny!
Instead he just happens to hit the nail straight onto the (tsundere) head. ]
no subject
She leans back, elbow on the table. Playing her cards close isn't gonna help him here, he'll just make excuses, or misunderstand... or, that's what she'd have done. ]
... Yeah, guess it does.
[ But, equally because it's sympathy driving her, she slides the mission notes back, and makes a few more marks. ]
Vulneraries are medicine?
no subject
Uh.. yes. [ Still, there's a slight delay at the sudden whiplash of the subject shift. But Inigo manages to go along with it! ] They're not powerful enough to heal severe wounds, but they can at least make you feel slightly better. And they tend to at least cure small wounds entirely. We do have healing magic where I come from, but not just anyone can use it.
