Hey, the 'Voidtrecker' books I ordered arrived today, if anyone wants to read them.

[ she holds up a comic book and flicks through it so you can see panels where characters in familiar hoodies are featured: a woman in purple warning a classroom to evacuate, various characters in red hoodies fighting robots, blue emerging from crumbling buildings with children in their arms, orange rescuing a group of civilians from a crashed shuttle. ]

This one's an educational comic for kids. Tells 'em that when we arrive, it's because their world is in danger from something they can't deal with.

The other's a diary from someone who travelled in the Void a different way. It mentions Ciyesia - uh, the world some of us were sent to for training - so it might have some truth to it. It gets really into describing plants, so you might like it, Sarai?

... Anyway, I'll leave them in the main car.

Looks like it. Or being 'heroes' will be a lot harder if we're not wearing them, if every world has books like these...

[ Ugh. She slumps down into the nearest seat. ]

[It's more a mutter as she flips through the comics, heart and stomach stinking the more she sees. The more she sees, the more she does not want to be here, but she is, and she's an adult now. Not a child. This is her problem too and she can't just fob it off onto the others and hope they deal with it..] Gods and if how Ciyesia went, then- We did the mission, but it was...

[She doesn't know how well everyone else went, but she's pretty sure Tony tried to do Everything and thus they didn't really get a chance to train like they should have.] We're going to need team leaders. Not just one person in charge or trying to do everything and if I'm right, we have a fortnight to get out acts together.

[ It's unfortunately true; Stark's suit gives him such an overwhelming advantage in a situation where they've all lost their equipment. She doesn't blame him for using it, but now that Eva points out the lack of training it led to... She's almost angry at herself for not seeing it sooner. ]

... Yeah. I guess... There are virtual training exercises in the new car. That might help.

[She'll have a talk with him. As useful as the suit is... That said, her gaze narrows in thought, mind already turning to tactics and how to deal with this. It's not pokemon and dealing with groups of people who have been cooped up in a confined space and may not even like each other-

Eva winces. It's going to be like herding mareep, only hopefully without Thunderbolts or Thundershocks.]

It will. The more organised and aware of what each other can do, the easier it will be. And, as much as I don't really like it given the age of some of the kids- we will have to involve them because they're going to want to be involved.

[ Well, it's not like she didn't let herself get provoked into overperforming, herself... Eva's assessment seems entirely solid, and she finds herself nodding. ]

That's right. If they weren't going to get involved, they wouldn't be here. The train's choosing us for a reason, after all... People who'd get themselves killed trying to prove something seems like a common type.

[ Self-awareness makes her look away. She's definitely one of those idiots. ]

So, what do we do?

[She nods firmly then sighs.]Leave Stark-san to me. He seems similar enough to Satoru that I think I can handle him, but I'm not going to pretend it wouldn't be nice to have backup from you or Sarai-san.

And... if we do have team leaders, they should be those of us who've been here the longest. So... I'll take Orange. Hibiki-san's gone, and the rest came after me. Seconds... those with experience.

[It's ok Lightning, Eva is also one of those idiots. Or has the potential to be at least.]

Sarai'd be a better fit for that conversation.

[ Leave her out of it. She nods again, and leans back against the window. The void glistens in the corner of her eye; she looks back at Eva to avoid it. ]

Leaders, huh? Stark'll take Red. Blue didn't have anyone until the second stop, so... Ignis? Purple... the Thunderstorms, or Manabu, maybe.

Right. If I need backup I'll call on her.

[God, she hopes she doesn't, but at the same time. Well. What happens happens. She learned that lesson a long time ago.] That said, we should at least try to set up some sort of system for each team to get some training in on the VR.

[A beat, then:] And probably stick it near the things, too.

Some kind of schedule? There were only four headsets, so...

[ She jumps up again and goes over to the ICP, inserting her ticket and switching to the passenger roster in a series of efficient movements. It's not like she checks the roster every day or anything, okay? ]

Let's assume we'll arrive at a world in two weeks? Then...

That sounds like a safe assumption- Wait. Come to think of it, the malfunction was about a fortnight after we left that that world-

[Eva starts pacing, a finger tapping against her chin in thought as she more or less goes train of thought.] No, there's not enough data for that yet. Damn. For all we know, we are expected on other worlds every two weeks, and we'll need to set up a point we can gather data.

[Of all the times she doesn't have her pokedex, it's when she needs to be tracking data and variables and whatnot.] How many are on each team, does it say there or do we need to manual count? Plus we're down Buttercup-chan...

[It seems to him that the tendency of so-called Higher Powers being a bunch of pretentious, self-righteous jerks goes beyond Arda. Feanor hates being right at times like this. I wasn't here when you visited that world, Ciyesia, but now I wonder did you get instructions on what to do when you arrived there?

An alert went up on the information screens before we arrived for 'training mission number forty-three'. Basic stuff about the world, where we'd be landing, what we needed to do, when we'd be picked up. Tasks split up into the four colours, estimates for how long we'd need for each task.

Any information on what would happen if you failed to do what the message said? Or tried to remain on the train instead of going?

[Because he's not the one to obey just because someone says he should.]
