Video: "Ice" Bucket Challenge

[A very cheerful looking young man appears on the screen with a big ol' smile. He's dressed only in a pair of cargo pants, his feet are bare and he has a very long braid slung over his shoulder. He's also clearly standing in one of the showers. There's a bucket close beside him and a mop juuuuuust visible in the corner of the screen. And, of course, he looks so very, very innocent.]

So, this is a thing! You guys are kinda crazy, y'know? I mean, why not just ask for bears to be donated instead of going through all this? [Waves a hand toward the bucket and heaves a heavy sigh.]

But... Names Duo Maxwell and I was nominated by a guy I thought was a friend and I promised no water so...

[Duo grabbed up the bucket, grunting at how HEAVY it was, and hefts it up onto a shoulder.]

Hope you guys are happy! I nominate... whoever the hell wants to do this!

[Duo lifted the bucket, flashed a big grin... and tipped it over his head.

....

Many little fluttering pieces of paper fall all over his head. Each piece of paper had the word ICE written on it in big letters. All of the pieces land in the tub of the shower at his feet, and at no point does his smile waver. But he does give an exaggerated shiver.]

Brrr... Whelp! Should put my shirt back on!

[He shakes himself like a dog, his braid whips behind him and the little pieces of paper sticking to his hair fall. Stepping out and closer to the screen, he grins again... and moves past the mop for the dustpan and brush.]

...that was a cheap shot. Several cheap shots, actually.

Though if you're serious about honoring the spirit of the challenge, I have some alternate suggestions.

I did exactly what I said to do. There was 'ice' in a bucket and I didn't make a mess or use water! I honoured the challenge!

No one ever specified WHAT kind of ice to use. Without clear rules I'm free to interpret them however I want!

There's a difference between the letter and the spirit of an issued challenge. The point is to embarrass yourself, at least a little, to make the children smile. That's the purpose of giving out the bears, and all of this is to encourage the giving of bears.

As one of the people who started this challenge? I deeply disapprove of his methods and think he owes two bears for failure to complete the challenge.

I have three brothers at home. I'd like to think that, should they get kidnapped to an alternate dimension [ she'd be able to get them back. ] there were people there ready to look out for them. That was my intent behind this thing.

Peter's just kind-hearted and awesome and likes making sure people are okay, regardless of whether or not he knows them. I'd want someone like him looking out for my brothers.

He complied with the spirit if not the letter of the challenge. I see nothing wrong with what he did and I am the one who challenged him. This punishment is unfitting.

If it makes you feel any better, it brought a smile to my face. Clever act.

Also I'd like to point out no one explained the likeness to "ice water as a metaphor to being dumped cold in new world" so honestly I thought everyone on board had gone crazy again. And? Still would rather cold water to kidnapping so not a very good comparison. Find a better campaign.

At least his antics are funny and bring a smile whereas everyone else just looks foolish and causes confusion or a scowl.

And yeah. None of that was explained. No one said it couldn't be done like this. But I guess it's for certain new people who join, and not this new guy. But it's cool. I'll know not to include myself next time. I can take a hint.

I get why they're upset; they think you cheated. But they could have just shared in the laugh and then asked for the bears in a good nature. There was no reason to be hostile about a bit of fun.

Then again, kids will be kids. You probably know about that. [Unfortunately. He feels for you, Duo. Kids can...sometimes be his weakness.]
