And although I do have points for two teddy bears... y'know, one of my best buds just dumped ice on his head, and obviously a guy can't let a guy suffer alone, yeah?

[ SPLASH ]

'KUSO that's c-cold!

[ scrambling for the towel ]

If you've got trauma, not surprised, yeah. [ He nods ] But it's like... something about a sympathetic nervous system response? I dunno, we're not up to that in school yet. But ... [ He wrinkles his nose ]

Yeah, yeah, it's like... you know how if you take a hot shower on a hot day, afterwards, the hot air feels cold? And the opposite too. Take a cold shower on a cold day, and the air will feel warm. It's an autonomic response, I think. And if you do it REAL FAST like I just did, that triggers the adrenaline too. 'S why people do the Polar Plunge in Antartica.

[Bucky wrinkles his nose, too.] People are weird. I guess it's good you had fun, but. I'm not gonna dump ice water on my head.

That's okay! [ He assures him ]

'S like any dare, yeah? You don't have to do it if you don't want to - it's only that it's a fun thing to do for a lot of people. Makes 'em laugh, y'know? I wouldn't have asked you if I'd know you don't like ice.

[luckybucky]

It's okay. I forget that most people don't know what I am. [He smiles apologetically.]

[ Kaito frowns, catching that ]

Don't... you mean who, Bucky-san? You're a person, y'know. Not a thing.

[luckybucky]

Oh. [Have a couple of blinks, followed by an uncertain hum.] I am a person again, aren't I? [He tries to laugh it off, but the smile doesn't quite make it to his eyes.]

[ The frown deepens ]

What... do you mean again?

[luckybucky]

[He hesitates, but decides he might as well be out with it, albeit fairly quietly.] I was a weapon for over seventy years. I didn't have any freedom, and I definitely wasn't a person. My best friend saved me. [He smiles, sad but warm.]

[ All out scowling now ]

That... that's terrible. Ok, that does it. You're going to come and play poker with me and the Detective until you feel better.

[luckybucky]

[There's more blinking. Like, a lot more blinking.] I don't feel bad?

If you can't remember that you're a person and no longer a weapon, then you do. And nothing beats poker for making someone focus on the here and now.

[ A challenging grin ]

Can you catch me cheating, Bucky-san?

[luckybucky]

[Bucky ignores the bit about how he's obviously not okay because as much as it's true, he's in complete denial about it. Instead, he lifts a single brow at the challenge.] I don't have to catch you, you just confessed.

[ The grin gets wider ]

Are you saying you aren't up for the challenge, Bucky-san? Just coz I said that I would, doesn't mean you'll be able to spot me doing it!

[luckybucky]

How many times has this gotten you in trouble? [He huffs out a laugh, shaking his head a little.] Goading people into trying to catch you in the act. You know, there are guys you don't wanna cross that way, and I don't wanna have to come bail you out. [He actually waggles a finger at the screen, so it comes off as not quite aimed at Kaito, even though it's meant to be.]

Only people who've caught me so far are the Detectives.

[ He says smugly, grinning at the waggling finger ]

And we aren't betting for money, so fair is fair! And, I warn people if I'm gonna cheat and we're playing for fun - or it wouldn't be fair!

[ When he's playing as the KID he doesn't warn. But he's not playing for fun then. The stakes, in those cases, are very, very, real. ]

[luckybucky]

[He rolls his eyes.] Fair is not cheating. [But he is getting kind of tired of this line of pestering... and maybe if he gives in, some of his own pestering will get a positive response later on.] Fine, I'll come play cards, but if I catch you cheating you're going to be in big trouble, mister.

Knew I could count on you! [ He cheers ]

And I bet you can't~

[ Although depending on how good Bucky actually IS maybe he'll make it easy for him to catch him... ]
