[ She's been meaning to ask this for a while, but never got around to it. Until now! ]

So I know you've all just finished filling out Stark's questionnaire, but I've got another question for you. Short, this time.

This is for everyone, not just the new lot, by the way. And if you're just responding with audio, say your name before you talk, because there's a lot of us nowadays... Actually, say your name even if you're using the cameras.

[ Pause, as she remembers how to phrase the question ] Basically... What's your specialty? If you were known for something back home, or you've realised since getting here that you can do something that the rest of us can't, what is it?

"That's more than what I got," Nita admits.

"All I could really tell was that it was there, and listening. And that it couldn't let us up there, so at least it can get across a 'no'...

"Anything catch your notice, in what it showed you?"

"It is difficult to sort through. The wall remembered a great many people trying to break through it, or talking near it or even just walking past. But there was one memory that seemed almost as if it was forced through some sort of barrier, just before something attacked me."

... "Huh," Nita says, drawing it out.

"Thought it would've been fighting the whole time. I know it felt like the outside of the train works as a block for some kinds of effects-"

Because who knows what the void is even capable of?

"But if there's specific memories being blocked, it sounds like something else was instated. Maybe by a former passenger?"

Or the designers, if there was an actual defense program and it wasn't just the train's own instinct...

"What'd you see? Do you think we'd be able to find it again if we looked?"

Not that it was a good idea to look, of course.

"A girl, sitting against the wall. It was just a glimpse, and she was wearing a hood and long sleeves. But it looked like she had some interesting tattoos on her arms."

He shakes his head.

"I haven't tried to look any deeper into that memory. Something did not want me to see it, I think. And the reaction might be worse if I tried again."

And considering the first psychic attack had thrown him across a room...

"And if I asked..."

Nita's mind is going to keep shifting to that wall, even if she's no longer looking at it, isn't it?

She sighs at herself, this time.

"Was she just sitting? I mean, that does sound like something that would happen on this train, regardless..."

But.

"It was only a glimpse. Perhaps a second or so? After that something attacked my mind and threw me away from the wall."

"Are you able to share your memories, then? Maybe we could work it out together."

There is a spell for that, though it would take a great deal of energy.

But it's better than risking either of them getting attacked by the train, or whatever was really responsible there.

"I can share images," Will says carefully. "With another who has the same ability."

Although this was something he had not done since the other Old Ones had left.

Nita's response is equally careful. "Back in my world, I've got what's known as a precognitive ability. I can manage mind-to-mind contact with other wizards, but beyond that..."

She's not as sure.

"You think that would be enough to bridge the gap? I've done mind-to-mind contact with nonwizards since."

He considers this.

"It might be enough. It is not truly a lack of ability.It is more... we have the ability to touch human minds. But to do so... Too often it causes more harm than it helps. The mind of an Old One is not an easy one."

"Lucky for us I've got experience with 'difficult'," Nita says.

She's not joking, nor saying it jokingly.

Reaching a hand to him, she adds, "When you're ready?"

He frowns, still a little hesitant at the idea, but he nods and pictures the memory in his mind before carefully sending it to her.

The memory being secondhand, in a sense, makes it a little fuzzier, but Nita can see it well enough in her own mind's eye.

That's a book she's holding, Nita 'says' abruptly, zeroing in on the most familiar element - setting aside the orange hoodie, of course.

Not that I can see what it says, but that's probably part of why the memory cut off?

I got the feeling from it that there was something here that something did not want me to see. Will's mind had the feeling of agreement.

Or just the fact that this person's not of our group at all, Nita observes.

Noting - somewhat distantly - the silver tracings on the young woman's arms, Nita shakes her head and lets the connection fade.

"Don't suppose you recognized those tattoos from anything either?"

Will shakes his head as he feels the connection end.

"No,I can't say I've ever seen anything like them. I have been looking,as we go to planets. But nothing seems to match them so far."

Nita makes a face.

"Something to keep in mind for the future, then."

Like most everything else they learned about this train.

Sparing one last glance in the direction of the engine, Nita says, "Did you still want to talk about Nautilus, as well?"

Given that the issue of the train is more currently pressing and all.

"If you don't mind. I'm rather curious how we came to know each other."

Nita settles her arms back down at her sides as memories start playing themselves over again.

"We'd both been Called by the same being to the same place - which, technically, were one and the same: Nautilus, the Aeon of Change, who'd been Bound into the form of a city as a sort of multiversal hub.

"You showed up... a year after I did? Year and a half? But there were dozens of people in Nautilus over the years, so it wasn't as empty as it sounds."

Dozens, not hundreds; those who had Woken at Cyrus' Call had been few and far-between.
