Morning: Day 17 - Audio from the Kitchen

Let's play a game, because I'm bored.

[ This voice comes with music playing in the background. Nothing too exciting. Just some MISSIO. And there might be a faint tapping sound, rhythmic and following the beat of the song. Gwen has a couple of the pans from the kitchen upside down, for anyone in the kitchen with her, and she's drumming along. ]

The game we're going to play is called Two Truths and a Lie. And the rules are just that.

Tell two truths, one lie. People have to guess which is which and you tell them if they're right or not.

I'll start.

1: Ben and Jerry's Chubby Hubby is my favorite kind of ice cream.
2: I love my brothers.
3: I don't like cats.

[ More drumming, and a bit of singing along as she plays. ]

Alright! Let's do this thing.

Elfnein, huh? Are they on the train here too, or were they just someone you knew from before coming here?

[She really can't speak about it being odd to work for a god, given that's technically what wizards do, so she'll focus on a different aspect:]

Some gods can draw strength from all sorts of things, that's for sure.

Both miss! They are from where I was before and she is here now too! [Which was good, she wasn't for a while at first and that had been sad and scary!]

They can! Elfnein is bad at sleeping so she gots to drink lots of coffee!

Oh, good! It's good having someone you know already here.

[Considering it took more than five years to get stuck in a place where she was with someone she knew personally, she is speaking for herself...

And, ouch. Insomnia? Though perhaps Nita shouldn't judge, being a tea addict.]

Is there such a thing as sleep aids for gods, or do those not work for her?

I don't know miss... Sleep aids... You can buy sleep aids in the shop here! I saw it!

[An idea!] I'll buy one for her and see if it works!

Wait, really?

[The shop is one of the few things Nita hasn't gotten to explore yet.]

I hope it does work for her, then!

[At least she can be somewhat helpful in this???]

Yes miss! I'll go buy one!

[A moment later.] Do you want to come with me! I can show you how the shop works!

[Nita's eyes widen in surprise for a second, but she recovers and shoots the screen a grin.]

That'd be great, actually! I'm in the car with the library set-up; is it near there?

They are everywhere! I'll come to you!

[He's not too far away so the screen goes dark and a few moments later a small boy enters the standard coach and waves.] Hello miss!

[Nita waves hello in return, grinning in a bemused fashion. Guess she's going to get herself learned a thing today!]

Hi; you can call me Nita. What's your name?

It's nice to meet you, Nita!" He skipped closer. "I'm Romeo! The shops are over near the doors that go outside! I'll show you!"

He beckoned her over to the carriage door.

"Nice to meet you, Romeo," Nita said, though her attention was now split between him and trying to see what the shops looked like!

"They're not vending machines, are they?"

"I don't know what a vending machine is, miss Nita!" He told her as he took her to a screen at the wall.

"But you put your ticket in here like this!" He slid his ticket into the slot, his name and how many points he had came up.

"So I got one hundred and eight points and if I click here it shows me what you can buy! You're new so if you put yours in you will have three points! You get more by doing good teamwork!"

He assumes. No one has ever told him exactly how you get points. But they are called team points so it must be teamwork!

As Romeo explained how the shop worked, she nodded, looking between the screen and her own ticket.

"This is pretty close to how vending machines work, though usually you have to put money in by hand instead of the points showing up."

Quietly Nita wondered how long Romeo had been here to get so many points!

"I guess that means missions, then. So, what are the shop options, Romeo?"

Time to hunt down those sleep aids!

Put money in by hand? He nodded vaguely understanding what she meant. "We do get lots of points after missions." He agreed and then started going down the options.

"You can buy sweets and books and clothes and even food!" He explained, "But the sleep set is in mer... merche." He pressed at the screen to get the option. "This one! It costs ten points see." He pointed a the sleep aid option.

"Makes sense," Nita said - and then found herself chuckling at her own unintended pun. 'Cents', indeed!

"Uh-huh! I see."

Ah, touchscreens; far from her favorite when applied to smart devices, but at least she recognized them.

"And you just click it to make the request?"

"Yes! You just press it like this!" He pressed it and there was a small noise before a message came up to thank him for his purchase. A moment later a package fell into the slot at the bottom.

"Here we go! Sometimes if you ask for specific things you got to wait until we go to a platform though! Like when me and miss Spider asked for things to make ice cream!"

Huh. So it really was like a vending machine-

Wait, what?

"I guess that makes sense," Nita said slowly.

"The Train can't have everything, but-"

Okay, two lines of questioning:

"Where does it get the supplies, or know how to get them? And- ice cream, huh? How was it?"

"I don't know. I guess it gets them at the platforms. Maybe there's people that work there but I never saw anybody!" He shrugged, it was strange but he didn't know what was beyond the barriers on the platforms because they couldn't get out!

"I don't know, we've not tried it yet. But when we do you can share! We bought lots!"

"It'd be nice if we did get to see behind the scenes even that much," Nita agreed.

And that's lighthearted enough that the offer made her smile.

"I'll definitely be in touch. Anywhere you were headed now that you got the sleeping aid for your friend?"

"I'll go and find her!" Romeo said with a grin, "So I can give it to her! Hopefully it helps her!"

He would definitely make sure to invite Nita for ice cream, since she had given him such a good idea!

Nita nodded.

"See you around then, Romeo!"

She wasn't ready to purchase anything for herself yet, but maybe soon...

"See you soon, miss Nita!" He waved at her happily and skipped off to find Elfnein. He hoped she liked her present!
